its desmond developing the enhanced eagle sense...if you have played ACR wich by now everyone should have, it signifies the enemies foot steps, . in brotherhood, there is a period in which lucy is no where to be found, this is because the templars took the real lucy, hence the red enemies footprints and replaced lucy with a fake, that is why the fake lucy is stabbed at the end, hoped this helped bro/

It's just the footsteps of the main characters taking the animus into the sanctuary. Nothing more. This was made before they decided to make red footsteps as enemy footsteps. It's just a mistake that appeared because they made it too soon without thinking ahead.
The developers actually said it was just to help lead the players back to the sanctuary if they were idiotic enough to get lost. The fact that you can only see it in eagle vision was just so that if the player thought to use eagle vision to find their way back, they would see the red trail that leads directly to the sanctuary entrance. That's all it is, nothin' special. Disappointing, really :/

The game creators said that the path there was originally to help people find their way back to the sanctuary. It was supposed to show the path from where the person was, rather than where the Assassins crest was, but when they stopped the idea, they left it there, probably on accident. They made it red because that colour is very noticeable.

I think it's Ezio's footsteps at the beginning of the game because when you were at montergioni at the beginning Ezio got shot in the arm and ran into Maria and it lead right into the villa.
It's an oversight. This trail was just a way for players (specifically game testers who had a horrible sense of direction) to find their way back to the Sanctuary. The developers confirmed it.
if you look closely you can see at the end of the trace, it curves towards the water fountain. I bet there's like a secret passage there that they will show in revelations or maybe i'm wrong. Just my theory

That is Ezio's footsteps. He returns to the Villa in Assassins creed Revalations. Because when you go into the Villa as Desmond for the first time he see's the ghost of Ezio walking in the undercroft place. I want to know what he goes there for though. :L Hope this helped.
I think its a reference to later in Brotherhood because you find out you was betrayed at the villa by that thief with an eye patch and I think when he runs from the book case he follows that red path to tell the Borgia about the secret passage

@badkiller2 i filmed the telly while i ran around mont. and showed the trail. transferred it into the computer and just talked. it took me about ten minutes and i did it because at tthe time i couldnt find any other videos about this.
Xbox is the best console and it's not very expensive, efficient, great graphics, great exclusive games, awesome controller.

The game creators said that the path there was originally to help people find their way back to the sanctuary. It was supposed to show the path from where the person was, rather than where the Assassins crest was, but when they stopped the idea, they left it there, probably on accident. They made it red because that colour is very noticeable.

That is Ezio's footsteps. He returns to the Villa in Assassins creed Revalations. Because when you go into the Villa as Desmond for the first time he see's the ghost of Ezio walking in the undercroft place. I want to know what he goes there for though. :L Hope this helped.
