Through the entire movie Alice is scared unsure, vulnerable, but at this last seen on the edge of the cliff she looks heartbroken and empty, but then it changes for the first time she looks sure of herself complete in what she has to do and what she wants to do she wants Uncas, there is only one way to have him and she is unafraid, ready, it speeks so much to how they loved each other
they had there own love , he went for her and took on all those guys, thats love , and he threw down to the end for her, i loved my ex like that , but we are not together anymore
Whats the name of the actor who plays "the bad indian", the one who cuts that dudes throat. He was in dances with wolves as well, and he also had a mohawk hairtyle..
It was filmed in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. In Asheville, NC and at Chimney Rock park and Lake Lure. That's where I grew up. The Black hills are in South Dakota FYI.
yes i have visited that place many times, i even went to the place where that girl jumped. its a wonderful place there. i used to go there to visit the brevard music center.
d.d. lewis, always f'in amazing actor...does so little and comes out of hiding every 5 years it seems...but he is a strong family man...thanx for this incredible footage, from a brave, courageous movie about poor souls who helped shape where we are today.
R.I.P. this memorial day all of you...maybe we will finally make it.For our ancestors...at least...I hang my head now.
I love this ending, it is so moving when the girl jumps off the cliff...makes me cry everytime I see it. The look of despair and hopelessness in her eyes is just top noche acting. Good stuff.
What is that thing that the father uses that looks like a cross between a sword and a large boomerang? I never heard of any tribes using sword-like weapons, esp. that early in colonial times. Is it an authentic Native American weapon or was it just used for the movie?
And before anyone gets on my case about being one of those hardasses for strict authenticity in movies, I'm not.
I'm just curious about this unusual weapon, if it's real, and if it IS real, than what the heck is it?
you're right. In the eighteen century it is too late for the native. The British colonists have very much. After the French and Indians war the British crown had wanted to protect the Indians territory. But their situation became still more desperate after the French defeat in 1763 and the American revolution because the native have along against the English settlers and they cannot more play of role of the European conflict.
I do respect the tribe leader putting a fight of all the British colonists but it may be too little too late. Becuase the white people have guns, cannons, steel, but most of all GERMS/BACTERIA. And it looks to me the natives are far too technological and culturally backward even compare to the Aztecs. If the native race have to survive they have to mix blood with the white ppl. Or else, mass extinction
And the native haven't to mix blood with the English colonists because the settlers were very much and have many women and they needn't the Indian women for the reproduction.the white people considered the native like savages and wanted the Indian land.
"a great nation called amerindians was exterminated in north america by the english settlers in north america forever" Then who did I have a pow wow with last March? Ghosts? Come and dance with us, we're not all dead yet.
WOW! I love this movie, just awesome ... Everything about this movie is brilliant, ok it sure not for kids but it really makes you think and everyone should do that 'thinking thing' from time to time.
Last of the Mohicans is in my top 10 movies of all time, it may come first?
there was a love scene planned, a very intimate scene but I read someone high up in production stopped it, don't know why, I know I would have enjoyed it
Two overlooked elements bear noting. Magua is portrayed as a cold-blooded hater of whites through the film, but at the moment when Alice transcends her fear and reaches peace with dying, something passes between them which, at least for a moment, redeems him. When the blade drops, and he gestures to her, his face is full of awe. Somehow this changes how we feel about him, so that the final confrontation with Chingagook pulls us in two directions, and Magua meets his death as nobly as did Alice.
This is the most underated film of all time. There are 610 comments on this video. At this time you have to go back 62 pages to get to the end of this post from one short clip. GREAT MOVIE! Randy Edelman and Trevor Jones best score ever. Randy Edelman after this movie never made anything comparable. Gettysburg wasn't bad but this was his masterpiece(ref. Wikipedia). If you haven't watched the whole movie..DO SO..one for the ages. Enya when she was with Clannad also has a song on this soundtrack.
The old man is all that was left, his son Uncas and his lover were dead...that is the tragedy of the whole film. Everyone pretty and young dies...this movies great!
one of the greatest scenes in one of the greatest movies, such a powerful scene... gives me gogose pimples.
uncas' epic display of bravery to save alice then alice's ultimate sacrifice followed by chingachook(or whatever his name is) revenge on magua(or whatever his name is)
the next bit of the film with chingachooks speech about the indians is the best part of the film. so full of emotion.
Um I read the Book and Uncas Liked Cora and Cora Liked Alice, Duncan didn't die and married Alice. Uncas and Cora Died, and if they got wrong they killed Cora she didn't kill herself!
cora is the dark haired one, the one that kills herself is alice. and anyway, it is the movie, not the book. it doesn't has to be exactly the same. there lies the point of a good book ADAPTATION.
You Know the Scene where they are in side the water fall and I think Alice tries to jump because her father is dead but Uncas pulls her back and saves her, and they are just embracing eachother, that is such a beautiful scene, brings tears to my eyes as you know that they happiness is so short lived :(
This is a beautiful scene, so emotional and all by the music and scenery and action of it!!!
I totally agree with you.So moving.Especially the part where Johdi May decides to plunge to her death rather than accept to stay with Magua. That last look she gave had me in tears. One of the best all time films.
I read the book (a long time ago) and watched the movie and for some reason I really like both . Probably because of the North America setting (the shots in the movie Rock!). Anyway, does everyone notice that at about 1:56 the rock on your left hand side is actually made of some type of cloth? it actually wavers a little...this used to bug me to no end. LOL
It is a sad world we live in. The reason is because of the miniscule cranial activity that must go on in your head and also I feel the sadness of the poor people who have to withstand your repugnent aura of intolerance.
it really shows how much music can make a good action scene, into a GREAT acion scene! Movies today are missing that great music that gets your blood pumping and moves you.
