Their results showed that the meat from Taiji had over 13ppm of mercury; over 65% of which was methyl mercury.

Japanese government is just extending the research. IRC should kill more whales than they planned to maintain the quality of data. There are much more sophisticated ways to protect whales they love, but why Paul Watson does not pick them ? To shoot graphic and dramatic things ? To make better money ? I do not know.

Thanks to radical activists, more people support whaling. The market of whale meat is so small. How come such pin money can motivate Japanese gov. At least 500 (less than 0.5%) are needed statistically to estimate the properties of 100,000 Minke whales. I wonder if SS knows over-protection of a part of ecosystem will ruin its balance.

Japan wants to know the property of whales. What's more important, Japan and FAO are trying to estimate how much fish water mammals consume. So Japanese gov has no choice but continuing the research. FAMM does not care how much IRC spend, since it is just pin money for the Ministry. For me, looks like a local gas station trying to bring Exxon Mobil to financial ruin. SSCS has to persuade Japanese tax payers but just made them angry. More tax payers are pro-whaling now. I do not see any strategies.

You must be unfamiliar to the price of large fish. A big tuna can cost 32 million yen in Tsukiji fish market.

Since 2000, Researchers, have found high concentrations of mercury in the whale and dolphin meat sold around Japan. In their studies, Taiji residents who eat dolphin meat had high level of mercury in their hair. Research done by the NIMD in 2008 tested mercury levels in 7 pieces of whalemeat and one bag of mixed whale innards from Taiji. Their results showed that the meat from Taiji had over 13ppm of mercury; over 65% of which was methyl mercury.

actauly the increas has also been shown in just as many countries that never allowed whaleing. meaning that the increase has nothing to do with eating whale meat. i think i missed that study. a full scale test done by the gov that specificaly said that whale meat was the cause of sickness?

The Makah Indian Tribe life expectancy is only about 2 years less then then the us average and they have about 50% the health care avaiable to them.

Japan's Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama has revealed he dislikes whale meat, a newspaper reported Saturday. An unusual confession for the prime minister of a country that defies Western criticism of whaling.
"I hate whale meat," Hatoyama said during a meeting, the Japanese Sankei Shimbun reported.

Chinese BBQ ribs, pizza, organic steak, mahi mahi, and other great delicacies. and the fact the Prime Minister hates it shows he is least liekly to support them especially since its been bugging him that they keep costing them a fortune and havent even made good profits. so why bother when they are failures? I consider games entertainment, which is their main purpose. i wont buy it and CANT but it since its illegal in the USA. but i refuse to let uninformed people in Japan consume it without knowing what they're eating. @spcantwell i am not angry with my morality. i am a volunteer, i get no dough in return as SSCS is non profit. i used a lot of scholarships to help pay and i am searching for work. but its hard in such a populated area like i'm in and i refuse to work at fast food areas. I wouldnt give a shit, i'd just go to another shop and laugh my ass off as the idiot got arrested for vandalism. If i see a child being beaten, i will step in. and i am seeing innocent people poisoned and sentient beings killed

Just to be clear, I'm more of a fan of the show for the ship battles than the actual saving of whales. Sure, I like whales, as I like all animals, but I'm not a hardcore environmentalist like the Sea Shepherds. I even marvel at the capabilities of the harpoon ships, very impressive, much more so than most of what Sea Shepherd has brought into battle. I really have no ill opinions against either side, I'm just interested in the ships really.

Experts from National Institute for Minamata Disease conducted a scientific research there. They found no difference. No disease. No congenital disorder. Data show that Whale meat causes less problems than cow meat does in Japan. Cow meat is too high-calorie for most Japanese and causes diabetes.
