  • Thanks. I like to do things in steps. Okay you get the editor, what is the next step? I would like to start my own self-publishing company of my own, publishing my own books.

  • @Handsomeman791 Gaah! Men! I've noticed that in every video that has a female there's always at least one post from some horny dude about having sex with her.

  • @Eizara ROFL.... YOU'VE SO HAD IT!!!!

  • What a nice lady x

  • "Who know? I t might be a best seller. I doubt it." lol

  • thanks for all the tips...you help me so much and your video was funny but how do you write a book about your life? and to tell help your story of how you served...

  • Im writing a crappy book. Its my very first one, so I have a reason for it to be crappy. Im just testing my writing skills. I wanna see if im any good at writing books.

  • @nickjjismyhusband Here's a challenge for you: Write your crap book, then sit on the computer and alter it in both its subplot's and its structure. That's what I did and my book is really good now; I also learned what makes a book a good book :)

  • Q: How to write a book. A: Write a book. Uh??? Q: How to get rich. A: Get Rich Q: How to perform surgery. A: Perform Surgery. I didn't like it.

  • Well Done! 2 THumbs up!

  • Bitch...

  • not to dis carols tips, but setting up a schedule would never work for me... i just write whenever i get inspired or something.

  • Thank you. I have two months were I will be alone every day doing nothing. I'm gonna write my book every day and finish it by the begining of September.

  • thanks so much..! u started to bore me when you kept throwin facts at me and i thought about what i want to write about. #no offense ..! but it helped me a lil :D

  • Just finished typing up a book on the computer. I'm in love with it already, but ya know I have to check it over and see if I wanna change anything, it's a long process, but I'm happy I've written my first book. My first series is going to be a four book series, and I just finished the first one, three more books to go.

  • your mentally retarted

  • Write and try your best to outrun your greatest enemy doubt.

    Stephen King said that...

  • Really good information here thank you for posting this video :)

  • woman, I can feel your sarcasm up to here. but, i like you. i can feel your inteligence too.. well, thank you for the vid. thank you!

  • "My suggestion: WRITE YOUR BOOK" real helpful advice there.

  • @rhettbutler96 She backs that up afterwards with tips on how to get started on it. But she's basically saying that the person who feel as though their book won't turn out great to at least attempt on writing it if their story is already in their head. Then they're able to see how it will turn out afterwards and what needs to be edited.

  • @rhettbutler96 It's what you've really got to do, aint any other way.

  • The only issue I seem to be having is that I get so far into the story but I have problems writing further. Its not from lack of content or knowing where I want the book to go... I just cant write. I need practice, and your advice helped alot. Thanks!! :D

  • come someone else than me hear the low pitched sound when she's speaking. Sounds like a low midi note or something

  • Thank you. For making this video, and giving the advice you gave. Also, for being honest. I hate it when people aren't.

  • are you a man or a woman?

Sorry Sorry Sorry Sorry. ha ha

  • are you a man or a woman?

  • I'm in the very beginning stages of outlining a novel's plot. My problem is that I can never seem to write enough to make a book...but maybe this one will be longer!

Btw, I think I'm the only person older than 12 who's commented here lol

  • good info!

  • why did i think this was funny ??

  • I'm 15 and I've been writing ever since I could hold a pencil and write my own name (I am a complete book worm- and here's the irony; my name is Paige. Go figure.) I have lots of stories but I'm wondering what are some tactics to stay focused? I write like ten stories at a time and never finish-and showing other people? Way too shy!! What to do?! Seems like lots of other people have my problem too haha poor us ^^"

  • im 11 and i had a prodject ti write a biography and i loved it

  • You remind me of my mother in law. She has your direct... yet somehow scattered thought patterns ( no offence intended of course, she speaks sense too )!! Please could you offer some constructive criticism on the children's book I have uploaded. It's animated but it's the story I am keen to have feedback on. Many thanks.

  • Thanks for the help, was writing with out planing what could come around

  • i'm 11 years old and I have TONS of stories in my head that I written down. but i am SOO DARND SHY I TAKE ONE GOOD COMMENT INTO AN INSULIT! i have writeing classes and it is going to be trouble next year.....aww

  • @despickett14 lol me too (im 11 ssh!)

  • I think you touched down on some very good points when it comes to trying to put things together when trying to writing a book. I've just been threw somethings and now that the drama is finally ova i would really like to release some stress and to just tell sumone about how the way certain things can be avoided by thinking smart. Your video is a very good starting step and i'm glad i found it. I most def have a creative mind and i know many can relate to my story that's soon to be the future

  • Like u'r great!

  • Thank you so much! I am twelve and I plan on writing a novel. I'm strange when it comes to writing sometimes, I kind of write out certain scenes to get an idea of the product I want. Many times this discourages me. I like how you said just get it out and write it! I think i will do that from now on. This video is full of helpful information and things I believe I needed to know and hear from a published author! Thanks so much!

  • @TheChillyCucumber I'm 11, and so far I have a pretty good foot-hold on writing, not published yet. I have a great idea, and I am being taught how to write. In writing at school I get As all the time. I guess the reason is because since I was in second grade I've been reading books like Narnia, Harry Potter, stuff like that, so I have a high demand in my head when I'm writing, and I always want to meet it.

  • I'm not exactly sure if you'll write back, but when I was ten, I was interested in writing a book. I wasn't very good at it, but I got the hang of it. I kept planning and planning until I came up with an idea I actually wanted to write. It all started out with you. I am now eleven, and my first book is 104 pages long. Thank you.

  • erm "i doubt it" GEE THANKS THAT REALLY HELPS! thumbs up if you heard her say it !

  • @Lcici890 its true

  • dont know alot of words im only in high school XD

  • fantasy book that im writing is getting immersive and im goign to write up to 130 pages then done

  • im young and love fantasy i play alot of video games and get my inspiration from there like bio ware they write amazing stories also harry potter is a great book also there

  • haha "Maybe you could be a best seller... i doubt it"

  • Some good points, esp regarding having others read it to spot check it for you. I left a few mistakes in my manuscript before submission. Others helped to point them out for me, since I did not have an editor. You're right. The eyes just looks past those errors much of the time if you don't read them over.

So, how many books copies have you sold?

BTW, I believe that "double dot" is in fact a colon, but I could be wrong. Ha-ha!

  • Comment removed

  • I am no writer , infact at school I could never spell , in my frirst year at school in Austraila NSW, I was asked to stand up in front Of my first school ing to spell cake , I spelled it Kake the class all laughed .

Loved your little vid I thank you verymuch for your say

  • are you a man or a woman!?

  • What the hell is this woman talking about it? She's obviously discussing self-publishing. You don't pay an editor! The best thing to do is to try to get a literary agent. That is the best ticket at getting published. It can be a long tedious process but it's definitely worth it, if you have enough faith in your work.

  • An outline is only necessary if you have gaps in the story and your're unsure of the direction the story is going. Outlines should not be so detailed. I disagree with her. The main subplots she be addressed but let your characters drive the scene. The more spontaneity, the more realistic the characters will become to the reader.

  • All these people mention that you shouldn't worry about editing. Just write. That's incredibly hard for me. I'm full blown OCD when it comes to anything creative

  • Yes, 30,000!!!!!! a day!

  • I'm not trying to discourage you from writing a book. However, I am attempting to open writer's eyes to the fact that it is very unlikely they will publish a best-seller. There are 30,000 new books released every day; that is a lot of competition.

WRITE YOUR BOOK! That's all I intended to say. It's a gratifying experience no matter how many books you sell. Good luck to you all and thank you for watching my video. I plan a new upload in the next few months.

  • I've been writing since I was 10. I have soo many story ideas and starts of stories. I've written a book that was 130+ pgs but then I decided I didn't like it. I have all the ideas in my head, I have the dedication and the love for writing, but I'm just not good at combining that all together.

Honestly, and I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but this video made me feel LESS confident in writing. Shouldn't you be promoting us to write?

  • @ChrissyLuffsYooh I'm not trying to discourage you from writing a book.

  • @chipanugget there are not 30,000 books released each day...there are anywhere from 800 to 1000 books each day

  • @TheAirsoftMarine lets see your facts research....hmmmmm none??? ok then dont comment

  • Im 12 years old and i love writting but theres one problem. IM THE WORST RWRITER EVER! I started my 1st book when i was 8. It was terriable. Ive attenmped 2 more books n i have failed each time.

  • Hey I'm 12 and this video helped me alot!!!

  • I haven't finished this video yet. I stopped it right at 'just keep on writing' in the beginning and haven't stopped writing for a few hours. So far the advice is working. I can't wait to finish!

  • i love your help!!!!!!!!!! thank you

  • I'm only 12 years old and all these tips helped me write a book of my own. It's 164 pages long and i'm working on a sequel right now!

  • Hello. i am a 9 years ild little girl i wrote a book thAt is 103 pages long i corrected it and retyped it lots of times. can i puilsh it?

  • It was very inspiring but im only 11 years old. and r u suppose to encourage us not say "I doubt it that u will have a sell." then tha5t makes us feel that we r going to fail.

  • A really good video! I've been looking for some really good advice. This may just be what I needed to keep going :)

  • Smart AND beautiful. Excellent video ma'am! =)

  • Thanks! Fun and helpful in a "mom" sort of way.

    Thanks again.

  • Carol,

You are adorable, I loved your video, I could be watching for hours!

Yeah, you got it, I came here looking for some helpful tips to how start a book.

But only one thing about what you said I didn't agree, about the dog story you said, just a word "Marley", and you'll know what I'm talking about, a best seller book!

Ahhh you have a nice voice, and the next time you publish your book, you could put a CD attached with the "spoken book".

I'm brazilian, that's why I missed some phrases..

  • i like playing video games then writing books about them.

  • Thanks for posting this video. I found it very useful with some excellent tips on how to start writing. I find if I have to write anything such as reports etc it is best to have complete silence with maybe just some classic music in the background. I find songs with lyrics off-putting as you end up singing the words in your head and ultimately loose your train of thought. Thanks again for this guide you are right I just need to get on and do it! ;-)

  • "i doubt it". "try". i love your advice, respectively. but arent you supposed to encourage us? not set us up for failure?

  • @CMKify EXACLY

  • yeak arent you suposed encourage us

  • yeah arent you suposed encourage us

  • @fezard3461 yeah! arent you supposed to encourage us? micheal jackson says all i wanna say is they dont really care about us. rodney dangerfield is dead. im hung. 2 pac is alive.

  • @fezard3461 She is just saying most people don't get their book published. If she said "yeah it's easy to get your book published" that would be a straight out lie

  • @CMKify It's called being realistic.

  • @ExodusFaces realistic?but what if our both of our realities are different?

  • @CMKify I guess that's a nice attempt at sounding deep.... however we both live in a reality where most people who begin writing books don't finish, people who finish don't take the steps to become published and people who do see no success from it....... so, yes, realistic

  • @ExodusFaces i agree with everything you said except for my attempt to sounding deep.

  • And Razatak, perhaps you could learn to spell?

  • Hahahaha thnx for the confidence boost 'You could be a best seller... i dought it' Hahahaha :)

  • I'm writing a book right now but I don't know what it is about. I write the first thing that crosses my mind. I still don't know what it'll be about... but as I write I start thinking... And it's starting to work.

  • Thank you very much! Sometimes I get ideas for books and I think they might be good, but then I start writing and I start thinking nobody will like it. The hardest part of your video for me is writing an outline. When my English teacher asks us to do a graphic organizer, an outline and four paragraphs, it's always easier for me to do the graphic organizer first, the paragraphs second, and when I finish everything I do the outline.

  • thanks :D

  • Thx your my hero!!!!!

  • Don't write a book about your wonderful dog that just died? Marley & Me was a bestseller...

  • i have a question though. i still don't understand how to send it off to a publisher. do you mail it off to someone, or something like that? someone PLEASE give me an answer! thanks!

  • Im only 13 and im wrighting a novel, but Im not sure if it would get published. It is about a girl whos finds out she is Imortal, and her family is being hunted by a hunter family then she meets the son of the hunter and he helps her save his parents any way do you thik I could get it published with all the competion going on with vampire books

  • @DaAussieDramaQueen

you know that sound really interesting. i'm pretty sure someone would love to publish your book, especially with all these super natural books being bestsellers.

  • @DaAussieDramaQueen To be honest, I read a lot of Young Adult novels and that storyline sounds almost like a lot of book summaries word for word.

  • sorry lady you seem nice but are bad at this.

  • Great video thanks for the tips

  • I've had a book in my heart for 2 hours, but the idea for about 2 years now.

  • Good Video, thank you. I’m trying my hand in writing a book for the first time and even though I write screenplays, this is a challenge.

    Thanks again,

    Mark B Domina

  • im glad ur honest about your notes! lol

  • Great video hope you post another one for me my profile coreymichelena101 thank you I love your video it inspired me on writing a book I'm only 11 years old writing a story my family Is happy that I did write a story and thanks to you

  • thanks for posting this Carol, question....

could I use word pad or note pad on my pc rather than ms word?

if I know the proper format and stuff...double space and what not...

could i then print it out at say...kinkos or something?

so many questions...so little mind...(i mean time!)

    :o)

    thanks

    MN.

  • Very informative. Keep the videos coming!

  • @hannahtwi Hard to publish script, use your computer and save, save, save your work!!!

  • My first instinct for a title was "Burned Out." But really, it's your book; it'll come to you!

  • i'm on chapter 13 on my book and i'm not so sure what to title it. it's about this family who must live with their other family on Long Island because they cannot afford their home in Queens, because of a fire. ideas????

  • I keep on restarting because i sometimes think my stories are not good enough. I read others books and think their perfect but i never like and appreciate my own.

  • @Ktayr they're* (sorry, i'm a grammar freak).

  • @Ktayr - Same here lol

  • good info! thanks so much !

  • Nobodys going to want to read a book about a wonderful dog and the dog dies.... Ever heard of the huge hit book & movie "Marley and Me".

  • But...I dont need glasses?...... :o

    lol jokes.

Thankyou good tips very helpful :)

  • your tips are awesome

  • thank you for the tips! Merci!

  • I love how she doesn't care about being proper and being perfect like most people.

  • That helped me 75% more than any other page did.

  • thanks

    great video

    xx

  • i watch this video everytime i feel like writing. it really helps. thanks for sharing this information

  • LMAO, I feel you on the notes, cause I be doing the same thing!

My last question is can you tell me if my book is gud. If u do tell me ur email. K

  • YYEEUH!! Lets go write some books!

  • Informative and hilarious.

You have some great facial expressions, Miss.

  • Freaky smile at the beginning and she kinda has a man voice

  • @TheEyeCon2

    Great observation--you must be....

  • First off, I want to say that you are very entertaining and seem to know a lot about what you're talking about. Second, do you have any tips for young adult/teen authors?

  • @rockey212

Sure, keep your first books at 25,000 words or less to keep your story tight. Next, take a creative writing course and English 101. Most of all, have fun with your writing!

    Good luck!

  • can you show us what books you wrought

  • "Maybe you'll be a bestseller!"......"I doubt it!"....haha good one

  • She is cute with her glasses!

  • ya i have have a tendency to stop writing half way through a novel i have two prologues posted on my channel if anyone cares to review them feedback would be appreciated :P

  • thank you ;)
