  • @christinamilian91 i've grown up in the 2000s and I think the music from the 50-90s are the best. Don't get me wrong I enjoy some modern stuff. Drake Bell,The Killers but now a days it's more about marketing then quality. To much autotune and tween girl manipulation(like justin beiber crap).

  • Back in 1983, I was obsessed with a bloke called David, who was going out with my friend Simon. This was the theme song to that infatuation. I still love it!

  • What's Roger Daltrey doing in this video?

  • @bucky468 That's an insult to Rog!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @driffter1976 It looks like Daltrey but I think it's John Spinks of the Outfield.

  • @driffter1976 I think I see Outfield frontman Tony Lewis on bass in this vid. So it must be Spinks on guitar.

  • Loved Joan, always thought she said fkuc the pilot, damn!

  • another one of those songs that wears out my replay button

  • @loqupol

  • Have memories of sitting in the back seat of the car as a kid and my mum and her friend driving to their netball game blaring this song lol Pretty cool

  • This is one of THE great songs of the 80s and so uplifting!

  • This filmclip sparked my interest in vintage cars 27 years ago and now I restore them. Havnt seen this clip since then and would like to know if anyone can identify the car?

Its rhdrive and they are playing rugby so It is either British or an American import to a Commonwealth country.

  • 27 years down the road and this song stills makes me feel great!!

Joan's music is timeless as is her voice - IMHO that is the measure of TRUE talent

  • Joan is one of those cool people that don't have to try at all to be cool they just are....oh, to have a beer and natter about life with her would be awesome...Awesome song! so cleverly written too :-)

  • love this tune, she is so underrated.

  • fun exciting song!

  • I love this song....but I must admit I always thought it was a man...sorry Joan. I was very young when I 1st heard it...my dad played it all the time.

  • Damn this bring back some great memories! I remember this in rotation on WTBS Night Tracks and Friday Night Videos. 80's COME BACK!!!

  • @bigtexansfan

I remember both those shows. Remember Night Flight on USA? I thought that was the best of the bunch. I'm with you- bring back the 80s!

  • @ar4216 - Oh Yeah!! Night Flight was da'shit! I'd catch Radio 1990 everyday and Night Flight on the weekends. Being a music industry professional my kids simply don't know what crap is being shoveled down their throats today by corporations with all these make shift manufactured "press & go" assembly line no talent artists they're shoving in the public's face. They've bought off the networks and radio so they can force feed it to them 24/7, hypnotizing them with that senseless bullshit.

  • Sigh, I remember when Mtv used to play this. Does Music Television even play music anymore?

  • Drop the pilot? meh

How about dropping this song, it's just terrible, how does garbage like this get on youtube?

  • @JizumChrust OMG THIS IS SUCH A TUNE SHE IS AMAZING YOU DEAF !!! TURN HER UPPPPPPPP XX

  • My Dad Pasted away on 20/4/07, &I will celerbrate his 3 years of passing, i am sure a lot people have been there, but i will use my army to come to my defence. No worries at all --- ... --- Hows was the brietling smash in PERTH Australia.

  • whats a mahut?

  • Yee ha Joan, you rock, always have. Take that, all you men that think women are for breeding purposes only.

  • I never really noticed this song until recently, now I listen to it all the time. It's a gem!

  • Great song.

    1983 right ?

Jeez I'm getting old, still love it though,,,,

  • oh love this song

  • You can download Joan's new cd (This Charming Life) for $3.99 at AmazonMP3 on 3/29/10 ...

  • Great

  • Great tune

  • I have 2 tickets to see Joan at the RAH, London 12th April, but now can't make it. Selling at face value. Please message if interested - hope you don't mind me posting this navek64.

  • navek64

And big thanks to you too, for posting!

Did you put the video together, too?

    Whatever

    5* + very best wishes

    Coco

  • Hi coco,

No the orginal video from back in the day!

It took some finding but I love this song too!

UMG own the copyrights so I thank them for allowing us to enjoy it here on You Tube.

    Enjoy!

  • @navek64 I believe she had this playing on a screen behind her live in concert way back when too......great post!

  • Isn't the women the one who plays Neville's wife on Auf Wiedershehn Pet?

  • Spotted there, yes it is her who plyaed nev's wife in auf wiedershehn

  • @Greenthigh Yes its wor Brenda!! AKA Julia Tobin

  • life should be someone jumping through a screen and go from there

  • I can thank MTV for actually turning me on to Joan, back when "the key" album came out, they played this and "i love when you call me names"....been in love ever since...in the USA!!!

  • Forgot how good this song was !!!!!!!!!!

  • nothing sexier than a woman with a low, throaty voice.

  • lol

  • I'd genuinely forgotten a: what a good melody this has and b: that the lyrics are somewhere between "gibberish" and "Tourette's".

  • You are wrong man! Much more clever way to say "hey you I don't like your girlfriend". Plus what other artist has woven "Mahout" (elephant driver) into a pop song?

  • mein valentinstaggeschenk für dich jenny

  • Two ruddy years I have been searching Youtube for this! I was convinced the title was "I'm the one you need" or words to that effect. And not knowing the artist or year of release left me somewhat rather vexed. ps. Great tune!!!

  • @yortsandthat Your right it is a great song. Very upbeat and great lyrics. Watch Edward Sharpe and the magnetic zero's. Desert Song and Home are good.

  • So how did you find it in the end?. Was it accident or did someone tell you.

  • @flares Sounds daft and may prove I have too much time on my hands but I sat down at the keyboard and decided to hum the tune in my head and tried variations of what lyrics may have been sung. I tried the "drop the something?" line with many words e.g boy, line, pony etc etc till I hit the word "Pirate" and then I realised it was Pilot... Eureka!!!

  • timeless classic

  • Why are you thanking Universal for letting us hear this? They should let us. The whole idea that music relies on the stewardship of corporations to survive is absurd. They never miss an opportunity to rip off their artists and the public. Please - no more grovelling thank yous from the little guy to heartless corporations.

  • Well put cedarjet

  • @cedarjet707 - As a music industry professional and musician/producer/songwriter/engineer I salute your comment.

  • @cedarjet707 Well, we probably wouldn't know this song at all if not for the heartless corporations that finance the recording of these artists.

  • @cedarjet707 Yes, thanking people is a form of politeness, and that's not something within the remit of the average glum socialist fcukwad.

  • @cedarjet707 too bloody right

  • @cedarjet707 sour grapes m8,thanks to this being online,on hear i can now go out and BUY it!! As i know what it is now.I you need a name to find a song or you have to sing it and sound like a twat(as i dont know the words). To people who don't know what it is.I rember it from when i was a kid but never new what it was till today when i came on the radio at work. And then i asked them. Why shouldnt artist get paid for there work then????If you made a hit song you wouldnt give it away for free,

  • With this and 'Love & Affection', Joan Armatrading is without a doubt one of THE most underrated artists of all time. Another is Tracy Chapman. Amazing talent.

  • @southerner1986 and so is Sinnita an understated artist. lol Only Joking

  • I tottally agree with you, its only now people are realising what fantastic songwriters/performers they were

  • absolute classic!

  • hugely underrated song

  • its been at least 20 years since i heard this

  • Most underrated artist of the 80's. End of.

  • Guess what, take 5 of those classic songs and you'll never find one CD with all of them. 6 stars for this song.

  • Joan Armatrading rocks! Inspired, awesome and fantastical!

  • this girl has one hell of a great voice.
