  • just recently found out my family has a long history of being scottish. if anyone can tell me some interesting stuff that would be awesome..by the way...my last name is Gaunce...apparently meaning son of angus(thats sweet cuz i love acdc!:D)..but im kinda clueless on the whole thing..any reply would be greatly appreciated ..and on my crest it says Animo non austatia..idk what that means

  • @13RGaun Animo non Austitia means "By courage not craft", meaning basically to act on instinct and be brave rather than over-thinking things.

It's quite hard to sum up Scotland in a few words since there's quite a lot of history to cover as this video shows. Scots are most famous as inventors and discoverers (Telephone, television, modern economics, capitalism, geology, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, penicillin, etc.) and for stabbing people with big swords. Also rampant alcoholism.

    Scots = Native Caledonian Picts

English = Germanic Anglo-Saxon invaders from Germania (Modern day Germany).

Scots are far older than English.

Scotland is an older nation than England, Scotland is the oldest nation state in Europe.

Scottish flag is the oldest national flag in the world.

  • I'm afraid sometimes that our most talented individuals will go towards separating the world through pragmatic business schemes and ultimately profiteering. We've actually helped humanity comparatively well on the grand scheme of things.

  • o an don che be walkin round like ye own a million calf or i take my quandry an shove it where tha light dont be shinin now ya hear me when i talk to ye small lassie i take a wee bit o dust and put it up on me nose and give a right good sniff until me ead starts tae feel like a small childs genitals

  • English are steeling raping pommy fucken faggots... Scotland will always be remembered!

  • Vote SNP and get our Nation back!

  • In Belgrade(Serbia) there is Callenitch market, but if you know that Celts were on territory of Belgrade than it is no wonder. Celts had built fortress there and Romans later built from it town.

  • Scottland... You´ll never walkin alone. Yo siempre te llevare en mi corazon... Que gran pais

  • Such a brilliant history of Scotland! I'm glad I live on it's history!

  • The SNP have indeed been rejected. 70% of Scots want to remain British. The rabid anti Englishness of the far left SNP has not taken away the rights of Scots to be British. Under British rule Scotland has been a success, before hand it was poor and ruled by crooks.

  • Respect à la grande Nation écossaise.

  • Respect à la grande Nation Écossaise.

  • Who cares? Scotland is Scotland and we are here now.

  • its a fact the english and welsh are bretonic celts the original brits not the scots the scots are from ireland fact gaelic

  • @pritch9598

English (Anglish) where Anglo-Saxon Germanic invaders. They arrived long after the Romans left and where not indigenous.

And the Picts where here as long as the Britons.

  • 'scots' are a mixture of Gaels, Picts, and Britons... even settled vikings!! ''fact''

  • @pritch9598 your right im from clan munro and we were originally from northern ireland and left for scotland in the 9th century to fight viking invaders doing so bravely we were granted land and have been their ever since.

  • scots came over in 600ad from ireland they why they spoke gaelic fact irish language the english and welsh were in britain first

  • @pritch9598

No a tribe refereed to as the 'Scotti' in Latin, spread their kingdom across the Hebrides to Western Scotland. Scotland is made up of many Celtic Kingdoms Dal Riata (Gael) Pictlands (Pict) and Straythclyde, Gododdin (Brythonic or Britons). That's what modern Scots are.

  • scottish indepencance 2010... freedom.

'Much respect to our Scottish cousins, from Ireland!

Independance from England for Scotland and Northern Ireland, in 2010!

  • Scotland was not bankrupt you clown. Scotland was in the process of signing wealthy trade deals with France before our own sold us out.

Unionist Scots make me sick, literally.

  • Agreed,The English feared the Darien scheme would create a wealthy Scotland and wished to preserve their trading monopoly, therefore they made sure it was doomed to failure.

  • me too, iv went rite off rangers for it, it pisses me off scots singing englands national anthem n wavin union jacks

  • u knw fuk all mate, woould i fuk ever vote bnp for a bunch of racist, fascist bunch off fuking wankers, and scotland we never joind with england u fuking faggot were part great britian so that means were all together not us with england, people like u piss me off cus u knw nothing exspecially u cn tell u dnt knw politics if u think bnp would help

  • My apologies for any confusion caused by my choice of words mate, what i meant to state was that it was scotlands financial ruin after the failed colony (about 1/5th of its wealth) that forced it into a union with the english (who at the time had a much more sucessfull empire) and helped form the British Empire.

I respect fully that a fair amount of the masterminds behind the British Empire where scotish, and mean no disrespect to the Scotish.

And we need more racism, im sick of these muslims

  • talk shite m8!!

    Greetings from Serbia

    Long live Scotland

  • It's time, time for the SNP.

  • All these clever inventors and stuff, and what do we get in scotland and the uk today? We get absolutley ripped off with our taxes, our government are corrupt, we pay for jakey lossers who are dopped up on drugs and have no intention of working but like to cause fights and steal, the law is corrupt, theres loads of drug dealers and nasty murdering followers everywhere and most people seem angry or aggressive and to top it all off, the weather is always crap, yes, thats the real scotland, soviet!!

  • send me this!

  • The Scots and irish blood brothers should have stood firm against the British and fought them together rather than eventually turn on each other. Imagine a united celtic states XD

  • That's not entirely true. Edward Bruce was killed just outside Dublin fighting combined English and Irish forces. If we look at the real reason for the Norman invasion of 1066 we find they were sent here by Rome to conquer Saxon England and from there to destroy the Celtic Churches in Scotland and Ireland. Between the 5th-10th centuries the Celtic Churches Christianized most of N.W. Europe. Iceland, British Isles, France, Germany, Switzerland, north Italy. That's why the Normans were sent here.

  • I don't know if Scotland will ever achieve it's true glory. To be a country recognised for it's own worth and greatness, England is always shown that way.

I laughed at the flag designs, seems to me England always wanted to be superior. Am I wrong?

  • robert burns 1721 -1784? not in my history of scotland

  • scotland means land of the irish in Gaelic in Latin I think. From Irish colonists in the dark ages.

  • Scotland means land of the Scots, it's Scotia in latin and Alba in Scots Gaelic. Before the unified kingdom of Scotland, it was made up of lesser Kingdoms, the most widely known was Kingdom of the Picts, which is the area, now known as the Dukedom of Albany. The Kings that ruled in the lesser Kingdoms answered to the High King of Scotland, as the lesser Kings of Ireland answered to the High King of Ireland.

  • The people of Dal Riada brought gaelic to Scotland. And I also heard some where that even bag pipes or oileain pipes came to Scotland from Ireland.

  • The Scots spoke Pictish and their own form of Gaelic before the Irish emmigrated. Irish Gaelic (Gaeilge - pron. Gay-Lick) and Scots-Gaelic (Gàidhlig - pron. Gah-Lick) are two different languages from the Goidelic Languages. As for bagpipes - they're Scottish well the Scottish small pipes, and the Irish have their own form the Uilleann pipes, which translate to national pipes. Bagpipes however have been seen thru out many parts of Europe throught history.

  • Oileain pipes translates as " Island Pipes" Gaelic was brought to Scotland by colonists from Ireland towards the end of the Roman Empire in Britain. By 500 A.D. these Gaels had established their Kingdom of Dàl Riada, centered on what is now Argyll in southwest Scotland; in Gaelic, Earra Ghàidheal, "the coastland of the Gael.

  • " To Roman writers they were Scotti -- Scotia at this time denoted Ireland -- although these names cannot be traced with certainty to an origin in Gaelic itself. But from these Latin forms came the name Scotland. In Gaelic, however, the country is Alba, as in Irish Gaelic, and Alban in Welsh.

  • "To Roman writers they were Scotti - Scotia at this time denoted Ireland"

The island was called Ierne, Hibernia and Britannia Minor during the Roman occupation. There were two races inhabiting the island at that time, the Hibernians (the "sons of the soil) and the Scotti in the north who were described as having travelled far and wide and having not yet settled. The first writer to call the island "Scotia" was Isidore of Seville in the year 560AD (i believe), after the Roman withdrawal.

  • the book of kells is an irish book!,which is in trinity college, dublin.

  • It was written in Iona (Columba)

  • Its actually the illuinated palster book of Colm Cille St Collumba and was wrote in Iona Scotland. It was moved to Kells because of the Viking raids. The book actually contains both Hyberno-Saxon Gaelic and Pictish insular artwork.

  • Whats the first song called? Oh and great vid, Go Scotland!

  • This a great piece of work, Well done! Scotland has an incredible C.V.(resume) This should be taught in Scottish schools not boring 1066 and Tudors. I hope one day you can extend this video 2010 Scotland votes Yes to Independence!

    peace!!

  • The Scottish people have never, ever been defeated (probably the only ones in the world name another if you can think) and our culture, bloody war history against invading scum (Roman cunts, Viking bastards, English wankers) and our pride will never be changed or forgotten.

  • another undefeated culture? poles.

we were shared between russia, austria and germany for 123 years, there were hundreds of rebels during this, but i admire scotland the same as poland - i'm gonna go there for several years- i love scottish history and traditions

  • great music!

  • Why do you speak english?

Scotland Folks are not that happy cause the Royal Brittish Family..why?

Who wonned more battles..you or englanders?

What does it mean Ireland for you-you respect eachother very much...

Im from a far far away lands of Macedonia,Greece...we have a mutual problems - the Greeks claim us as a Greeks...

Englishman claim a Brittish nation(with a English majority in it)...

    Thank you..

There is so few things on wikipedia...:)

  • "Who wonned more battles you or englanders?"

Impossible to say. Scotland has been invaded by Romans, Angles, Saxons, Norse, Danes and then.. Normans, Angles and Saxons all at the one time (collectively known as English). Its only at this point can you begin to speak about the "English". The English by then were the dominant power in Europe. That's why the victory at Bannockburn is seen as the greates of them all as the English army was obliterated and took 20 years to recover properly.

  • "Why do you speak english?"

Why does half the world speak English? The English are too lazy to learn other languages..lol. There's various reasons the Scots needed to speak English. To do trade etc. The early English spoke a sort of part Latin, part Anglo-French. The Scots Kings and nobles were able to communicate in those languages but the English didn't understand Gaelic. Gradually the 'English' language made its way into southern/central Scotland replacing Gaelic.

  • "Scotland Folks are not that happy cause the Royal Brittish Family..why?"

I don't know if that's a fair assessment. The Queen is always warmly received in Scotland. The current British monarchy traces its most ancient origins through the House of Alpin and the Scots kings of Dalraida. The Queen mother had a Scottish father and even the Hanoverians from Germany who ascended the British throne were partly descended from Mary Queen of Scots.

  • "What does it mean Ireland for you-you respect eachother very much..."

I take each individual person as i find them whether they are Irish, Northern Irish, English or whatever. Over the last 30 years we've all seen the bloody consequences of Rome suppressing history. Many of the Irelands 'finest scholars' (Republicans) are pervertors of history who would run a mile from the truth.

  • "we have a mutual problems - the Greeks claim us as a Greeks...

Englishman claim a Brittish nation(with a English majority in it)"

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is made up of Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Collectively these countries and their inhabitants are known as British. You seem to be under the impression that the English "rule" the rest of the UK. If so then you are way off the mark. Its a "union" which we all have the choice of leaving.

  • All those who have ascended the throne of GB have done so due to their heritage from Mary, Queen of Scots. The British Royal Family are by descent Scottish Royalty, The Queen is doubley Scottish, thru her mothers ancestry. An due to Queen Victoria's efforts, the majority of reigning and exiled monarchs also trace their ancestry back to Mary Queen of Scots.

  • Whilst it is true that they trace their heritage from Bloody Mary Tudor there are also other lineages that we very rarely hear about. Elizabeth II is descended from the Guelphs of Venice. That's why the "Defender of the faith" is actually a Roman Catholic Dame of Malta and much wealthier than we're led to believe. The Windsors/Guelphs descend from an oligarchic family ("Black nobility") which traces its roots back to 11th century Venice. She's not entirely "Scottish", i think its fair to say!

  • Ok, gotta clear up the Mary Tudor bit, cos everybdy gets it wrong-Bloody Mary was the Queen Regnant of England, Mary Queen of Scots was a reiging Queen of Scotland, she was a Stuart, none of the royal family are descendents of bloody Mary. And I agree, they are not entirely Scottish, but they do have a strong Scottish heritage. The Defender of the Faith title given to Elizabeth II however comes from her position as the Supreme Head of the Church of England. The guelph info helps tho, thanks :)

  • That's right and the current Royal family will trace its roots back to alll these monarchs. I think i would be right in saying that they trace their most ancient origins through the House of Alpin, unbroken (sometimes through the female line). Possibly even further back to the 6th century. However, i haven't done enough research on the Guelphs of Venice to say for that with any degree of certainty. Its worth looking into if you are interested.

  • The English langauge dominated the majority of the world due to the British Empire. The Scots Kings, Queens, Aristocracy all spoke Scots, and Scots-Gaelic, along with other languages from French, Latin etc. However with the Act of Union, English became the State Language of all the four countries, Scots, Scot-sGaelic became illegal for a time during the Highland Clearances.

  • great video

  • for a small nation we have created some of the greatest things known to man..iam so proud to be scottish.

  • yes youre right

  • not quite as many as england

  • scotland is as great a nation as england but i dont think they should seperate

  • can someone tell me the bands of these songs? there pretty sick

  • me too man! these rock!

  • not a 100% but it sounds like the "beta band" or "king bicuit time" both have the same singer.

  • Well if you are actually watching the thing, you'll see the names of the bands are at the end of the video!!

  • For the Highland clearances segment, you have "70,000 exiled, most emigrate" but this is not true. Hundreds of thousands were burnt from their homes, not just 70 000. By landlords, using police or English/English-speaking redcoat soldiers if the resistance was too great. During the Highland Clearances most emigrated under duress. I mean, in the space of just a few years in the county of Sutherland alone, 30 000 were cleansed from their homes, and land.

  • I <3 Scotland

  • Long Live Scotland!!Long Live England!God Save The Queen!!!

  • Its me again with my tail between my legs. Just checked it out and i'm wrong it was William Paterson, sorry about that. I'm now going to go and read a Scottish history book because I obviously know nothing.

  • Decent vid however at 03:17 it says William Paterson was the founder of the Bank of England when in fact it was the Scottish economist Adam Smith. If you need proof of this just look at a Bank of England £20 note. Sorry for being podantic (spelling?) but hope it helps with your next vid!

  • The Book of Kells was written on Iona by Scotsmen. Columba, although born in the north of Hibernia, or Ulster, was a Scot. Iona was the centre of the Columban Church of Caledonia and Hibernia at that time. There had been 5 generations of peace but then the northern Picts were seduced by Roman monks and the Chirstian Scots and Christian southern Picts were all battling each other, and the Vikings were raiding too. It was resolved that henceforth there should be two presiding institutions..

  • ..In the early 9th century the Church of Iona was destroyed so it was decided that the two presiding institutions would be at Dunkeld in Perthshire where Pictish King Constantine laid the foundations of a second Iona with the other being at Kells in Ireland.

  • the book of kells is irish not scottish.

  • why didnt you mention anything about our celtic heritage or the fact that most scots protested against the union?

  • There's a whole lot of facts which haven't been mentioned. It would be impossible to mention everything. The Scots have been a willing partner in the Union since it was democratically voted for in 1707 by a majority of 110-67. We've been up to our necks in slavery the lot, you name it we did it. We were at the front line of the Empire, which wasn't nearly as bad as some folk make out. Dozens of countries wish to remain part of the Commonwealth,

Feel free to expand on our Celtic heritage.

  • Wasn't very democratic and it's well known some were bribed. "Bought and sold for English gold" Riots in Edinburgh and Glasgow, not very willing after all, check your history

  • Baffling why certain Scots today paint a picture of poor little Scotland being forced into a Union we didn't want. We were bankrupt and it gave us access to the huge market. After the Act of Union there was a Scottish clique running London. The biggest losers were the English but on the other hand, the Gospel reached the four quarters of the earth. Even today, if i was an Englishman i'd be very unhappy with the whole situation. Devolved power etc.

  • After the Union of the Crowns especially, Scots were playing a big role in English affairs. Btw, i'm not a Unionist. I believe it was a good thing at the time but i believe it has run its course. The real enemy of Scotland (and England) has always been Rome. Loyalists bow before Elizabeth II not knowing she's a Pope serving witch who obeys her Jesuit masters. So in reality, Nationialists are the real enemy of Rome. But I'm no Nationalist either until the SNP promise to leave the EU.

  • are you mental???? the queen is catholic??? the royals aren't even permitted to marry one ffs.

  • I'm afraid you have fallen for the deception my friend. If you take time to research it you'll learn with astonishment that the Jesuits of Rome now control every government on earth as well as the British monarchy. They control the entire political process which is all one big farce. Elizabeth II is a 'Dame of Malta'--serving the Jesuits. The same can be said of all the royals. That's why when she visits the Vatican she dresses in black like all the other world leaders as a sign of servility.

  • This clip is about Scottish 'history' but if we take a second to look at current events we see that the Jesuits of Rome control the UK through the Royal Institute of Internation Affairs (RIIA) and the Archbishop of Westminster, advised by the Jesuits at Stonyhurst and in Mayfair, London. Gordon Brown and Elizabeth II are just puppets doing what Rome tells them to do. That's why Elizabeth II signs all of the EU Treaties against the wishes of the vast majority of the people of the UK.

  • right...... so the vatican is the illuminati? and elvis is still alive, bush blew up the towers, and the holocaust never happened.

  • Yes, the Vatican is the Illuminati. No, Elvis has left the building. Bush is just a puppet. The American equivalent of the RIIA is the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) which controls the US along with the Archbishop of NY (the real 'President') advised by the Jesuits at Georgetown. And Holocaust is just another word for Inquisition. No need to sneer at somebody who is just answering your questions.

  • i would believe so,have you tryed looking beyond the stereo type of "conspiracy theories" and actualy considered looking into the subjects depth.rather than being an ignorant know it all.your blatently herded by the majority.

  • Scotland was the one who started the Union it was the Scottish idea.

  • Well this Scot would leave it tomorrow because British politics is one big farce. All the leaders, Cameron, Brown, Campbell, Kennedy etc are all members of the Bilderberg group and serving the Jesuits of Rome. You won't hear that in the media. The country has been usurped from right under our very noses and nobody bats an eyelid. Its a complete and utter waste of time voting for any of them because they all serve the same master in Rome the Jesuit Superior General.

  • It wasn't a Scottish Idea to pass the act of Union. True that due to our King ascending the English throne, that it helped pave the way to the Union, the Union was brought about by English Lords in Westminster, and Scottish Lords where bought for their support.

  • your an english swine i assume??

  • Scotland = good

  • If anybody would like to read the most in-depth history of the Scottish nation you're likely to find then i highly recommend "History of the Scottish nation" by Rev. J.A. Wylie. It was printed in 1887 and mysteriously vanished off the face of the earth at the turn of the century. It's in 3 volumes and you'll be able to read it online. I am unsure if it's available to buy, it appears not.

  • Not many people know this but even today, in the 21st century, Roman canon law decides which history books can be published and printed. The aforementioned history book violated Roman canon law and for that reason it 'vanished' in the late 19th century. The book details a lot you won't read in your classrooms or in your local libraries. Somebody in Rome decides that for you. All Scots who'd like to know the true history of our nation should grab a seat & take a look at the book online.

  • yeah? Good, maybe then you will stop fucking moaning. If any of you actually knew what the fuck you were talking about, but all you are are a bunch of bigotted wankers.

  • No offense mate, you're the only one showing bigotory here. 'Celts', 'Scots', 'Gaels', 'Anglo Saxon' who cares. This video is clearly about Scotland being an important nation state in the past, England is also a successful nation. Britain is a modern nation state made up of two previous states. I don't see any ethnic nationalism in this video, just facts to which Scots right should be proud. England is also a great nation. Stop arguing as both nations have achieved many things.

  • griffshanks understandably needs an outlet for his frustrations because his country is flooded with illegal immigrants/scroungers. Naturally he attacks the hard working Scots over the border (rofl). England's green and pleasant land is now a crime-ridden hellhole. The smack of leather on willow on a fine summer's afternoon has been replaced with ghetto rap and pub brawls. And that's just the women, isn't that right griffshanks.

  • I think you'll find the smack of leather on willow has been repalced by. . .well smack!

  • I think you'll find the smack of leather on willow has been repalced by. . .well smack!

  • Let`s be fair here now, England has a bloody past ! Empire and all that. They didn`t treat us Irish and the Scots & Welsh too good. That`s a fact and you can`t argue it.

  • Let`s be fair here now, England has a bloody past ! Empire and all that. They didn`t treat us Irish and the Scots & Welsh too good. That`s a fact and you can`t argue it.

  • Let`s be fair here now, England has a bloody past ! Empire and all that. They didn`t treat us Irish and the Scots & Welsh too good. That`s a fact and you can`t argue it.

  • The Norman conquest of Ireland was organised by RC bishops in Normandy, an RC Norman King (Henry II of England) and the Norman Pope Adrian who issued a papal bull in 1155AD which brough the Gaelic church (Patrick's congregation) under Roman rule and gifted control of Ireland to Henry II (to Rome, basically). The Normans had just conquered Saxon England before they invaded Hibernia so it's a bit misleading to blame the English for everything.

  • If you were in possession of all the facts then i'm certain you'd be pointing the finger elsewhere. Should you be interested in reading the history of Hibernia from the 5th century at the time of Patrick until the 12th century at the time of Saint Malachy ("one of the earliest perverts to popery among the Irish clergy, and he was one of the main agents in the enslavement of his native land") and the Canterbury plot which i briefly explained above, then i can recommend some reading for you.

  • Firstly, Just want to point out that although Scotland is a country of 5,116,900 , The total population of Scots in the world is just over 30 million. I am so proud of my country and i learned alot about Scottish History at school. If i ever get the chance in my life to vote for Independence then i will without a thought !!!

  • The Scotti have never, ever, given in to foreign domination.

So proud to be a Scot.

  • "The Roman has vanished from Britain, but the Saxon has come in. The Scots unite their arms with the Picts, and push back the new intruder. The northern rover now appears on their shore, but it only to find a grave. The barrows on the northern and western coasts, where sleep the Viking and his followers, slain with the sword of the Scot, show that their prowess had not suffered decay. The Dane had conquered the Saxon, but he cannot prevail against the Scot"..

  • Its great that Scottish History is going to be compulsory from 2011. Soon the period from 1707-1998 is going to seem just a small gap when Scotland DIDN'T have her Parliament.

And it won't be long untill it is a soveriegn and independent parliament once again.

    great video.

  • Well said, I wasnt taught Scottish history in School and Im 34. I learned more about English history than Scottish. British Imperialism trying to quash our history and celtic culture.

  • "Celtic" culture is an 18th century invention. No historians prior to the early 18th century ever used the term "Celt/Kelt" to describe the inhabitants of Scotland and there is no historical account of any Celtic invasion so you can blame "British Imperialism" if it makes you feel better but these are the incontrovertible facts.

  • Still we ARE gaels just like the Irish and called ourselves that too. British Imperialism is the rapist of the 19th century. We should hang our heads in shame and good riddence to the butchers apron.

  • Scot and Gael were synonymous until the 15th century so Gael i have no problem with. "Gwyddel", meaning 'raider', was the name given to the Scots of Dalriada by the Brythonic (old Welsh) speaking tribes when they were expanding their kingdom into Strathclyde. "The Britons they first drove out". Gwyddel (Old Welsh), Gaidheal (Scots Gaelic) and later Anglicised into Gael.

  • Gwyddel mean Irishman in modern and old welsh

herwr (nm,herwyr) outlaw or raider, ysbeiliwr (nm,ysbeilwyr) looter marauder or robber raider

Brythonic languages is insular celtic language which deived form the word brython meaning indigenoeus people (old Welsh)

Dál riata was kingdom on the western seaboard of scothland which has tie,s to northern Ireland. Dál Riata is commonly viewed as having been an Irish Gaelic colony in Scotland

  • long live the celtic nations

It's lucky where all still here...

    Auld Lang Syne,

    Iechyd Da,

    Sláinte,

    aye!cheers mate

  • I realise Dalriada is commonly viewed as been an Irish Gaelic colony. One reason for that is historians tend to use "Irish Dalriada" and "Scottish Dalriada" to distinguish between northern Ireland and Alba but the truth is the people on both sides of the sea were known as Scots until at least 1200AD. The Irish themselves weren't even known as "Irish" at that time, they were known as Hibernians.

  • The Scots maritime kingdom of Dalraida encompassed both sides of the sea from western Caledonia to Ulster/Northern Hibernia (300AD-1200AD). There were two 'races' inhabiting early Hibernia - the Scoti and the Hibernia. All writers up until 1200AD refer to the inhabitants of Ulster (as well as western Alba) as Scots. It was these Scots who expanded their kingdom into Strathclyde. The Brythonic kingdom at that time stretched all the way up western Britain from Cornwall to Strathclyde.

  • "The Brythonic kingdom at that time" - 6th century AD.

  • Seonidh Scotland's experience before the union was very different from Ireland. We were an independent state with 7 centuries, not occupied. Scotland held its own until the disasterous invasion of England at Flodden. A century later we lost our independent rudder when James VI moved to London. Our leaders ambitions and the divided highlands and lowlands are to blame for independence being lost, not the English. If we are victims, we are victims of ourselves. Ethnic nationalism is pointless.

  • A country of 5 million people did all that? How come it's not more recognized? Scotland has fewer people than more major cities so what did the Scots do right that makes them so inventive? Can we all have what they are drinking!!

  • Lol by all means its called whiskey!

  • It's called whisky.

  • Perhaps their power comes from true unselfishness. they do not wish to be realized, only memorial.

  • Historically Scotland has always placed greater emphasis on education than other countries but Presbyterianism also played a big role. The Schools Act was introduced in the late 17th century with a school in every Parish. In the 18th century the Scots were said to be the most well-read nation on earth. And then the Japanese invented playstations lol.

  • Good one ! ;-D
