This is from the album "Toots In Memphis", which is Toots, with Sly & Robbie, and a bunch of Memphis folks like Teenie Hodges, covering a bunch of Memphis classics. No Maytals included.
No slight to The Maytals, but this album has ALWAYS been on any 10 essentials list I've had since I first heard the album 30 years ago or so. Toots In Memphis. Check it out. You won't be sorry.
This is only one of MANY fantastic cuts on this collection.
@lokojosie .Looko Loko, you simple minded ape,i am not black so your infantile remarks about my mother doesn't effect me one bit. Since your own mother absconded not long after your father split, how is your grandmother? Dead i hope!
I know John Denver's Country roads take me home. Also, Marvin Gaye's Spiritual Healing. I'm sure he also covered Clapton. REALLY TOOTS LIVE is the best show I have ever seen. BOB, PETER AND BUNNY said the same thing. PLEASE do yourself a favor and go see this AWSOME MAN and his Band. "You don't need DREADS to be a RASTA MAN" Thanks Fredrick!!!
I have no idea what perspective you're coming from! "He 'aint Jamaican" in respect to who? I was reffering to Toots Hibbert patterning his style to Otis Redding.
Who are they? I am hooked to all the Jamaican songs, but this one... Hum. Just great the reggae version. I also recall that there is "Amen" reggae version from a group from the Islands. Thanks for posting.
I grew up wid these tunes man......the days when mum, dad and the sibblings spent real quality time together, listening to real quality music.........oh how I wish I could turn back the hands of time! Wicked, wicked post.
I have loved Toots and the Maytals since I was a little girl growing up in Guyana and I am so happy to have discovered all of their wonderful music on the internet. I love you guys!! This is real music!!!
why oh why has it taken 30 years of my life to pass to found toots,i knew who he was but i was too mainstream with my reggae choices, only now as i am on a soul search and not looking for my soul but looking for that soul sound that i am finding all thsi music that has existed for so many years. Thanks to the album Marc Broussard put out last year Save Our Soul where he covered thsi song i always look for a cover of it, this is bad ass and so is mule version, let the music get down in your soul
That's o.k my brother...your sins are forgiven..now go on and discover more of the "Roots, Rock & Reggae"....Re-look at Jimmy Cliff.. he will enlighten you even further......The harder they come is for you!
I need to thank SQUID IN TAHOE, he turned me on to TOOTS at the world music fest. in Cali 97. Since then i have seen the Mytals at least 30 times, even managed to have a drink with Toots. Thank God the world has such a wonderful person and man in our times, I can't express enough how I RESPECT this Man. Do yourself a HUGE favor.. GO AND SEE THE SHOW. Thanks for all the wonderful memories Fredrick and the band.
for me it was picking up a cutout album in the late 60s or early 70s for a buck, back in his rocksteady era. And it took 40 years from then for me to come to Christ and realize what a wonderful brother I have in this blessed man!
Me a whitie but da tune let me groove...Dem brutal out deh so I and I listen to da sound wit a good riddem and vibes. I man listen to Toots in Memphis...
