Mac is a nice guy, really! When hes on the court, he really has this thing where he doesnt trust the lineman/umpire. Its like hes paranoid agaisnt there calls. But in real life the dude is ok. He was so awesome with the wooden racquet. If Mac had is way the current pros would have to go back to wood. Im not kidding
McEnroe was the beauty and the beast. When he was on, his game was art in motion. The temper tantrums though often took focus away from his game and that's too bad
Oh bliss! Bliss and heaven! Oh, it was gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh. It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now. As I slooshied, I knew such lovely pictures!
Perhaps (and, considering Sampras and Federer, only perhaps) the most talented, but I don't think he can really be considered the best ever. I'm a huge Mac fan, but Sampras and Federer are better than Mac was.
Mark...you are so wrong! SO WRONG!! McEnroe is the best!!!!! Sampras is cool, but Fed pisses me off...wtf...he should do more damage at the net. Federer just creates more work for himself.
You're welcome to your opinion of course. As I said, I'm a huge Mac fan, but I'm sure time will prove Federer to be the greatest men's singles player ever. He already has 49 singles titles and 15 finals in just six years. Mac won 77 titles in 11 years; a slower rate than Fed. Where Mac has `em both, is, of course, doubles titles.
federer could be great but the talent that Mcenroe has is quite incredible. He's art in motion. He's just the most gifted player i've ever seen(including sampras and the fedexpress).Mcenroe was a genious.
Yes but are you going to judge by the number of titles? In THAT case, let's see if Federer gets CLOSE to Connors' 109 titles...I think it is better to judge their game at their best moment... and the 84 McEnroe was as good if not better than Federer ever was...I don't think Federer would have too much fun playing against a player that put that kind of pressure on him (just take a look at his head to head with Rafter...uh-oh....)
The McEnroe of 84 would have given anyone trouble. Unfortunately for John he grew up playing with a wooden frame and a one grip game. And he never trained. He he had modern technology and a fitness guru I believe he would have been just about unbeatable. We also have to take Tatum out of his life, she was a bad influence.
Hey Schrittweiser, I agree with EVERYthing you say except the "one grip game" comment. I dont think that hurt him too much, in fact, for what he needed to do, which was get to the game, he had almost perfect groudstrokes. You cant attack a 2nd serve and come to the net if you are taking the kind of swipe that Nadal does at a forehand! I think everything else you said was completely true. Happy New Year
I understood mac654. You are right the one grip game did work for him,but no one plays with a continental grip anymore. I always saw John as possibly the best mover on the court with lightning reflexes. Man was he just pure pleasure to watch and the tantrums were so amusing. The game misses him dearly.
beethoven and the brat mesh well.

Closest in talent next to Laver. John would readily admit that Laver had more talent than he.
