The mulitplayer community for this game is completely dead. No one plays this game online anymore... It's a shame though I really miss games like this just fast paced action shoot everything that moves now it's all about completing objectives, kill to death ratios, leveling up systems and unlocking everything..
Sigh.. the i miss the good old days... of multiplayer gaming where you just run and gunned games like Quake 3, Unreal Tournament. The Original Halo etc.

Fear, HL2, doom3, quake 4, prey, postal 2 (russian dub of this game is the best :D), area 51, far cry, star wars republic commando, call of juarez, BF2, painkiller, bioshock. @Kluscar I don't know how the mods fucked up your PS3 when mods are designed for PS3 as well as the PC, but you can always delete them, I've downloaded all the mods available for the PS3 edition and I've had no problems whatsoever.
And UT is still the shit, I'd choose this over Battlefield and CoD any day of the week.
@Kluscar You don't need to use a USB to download the mods, you can do it from the community options, which is what I'm guessing you did. But I still don't understand how it fucked up the Bluray drive...weird. I hope everything is working fine now.

For the record, I do not personally believe either Halo or CoD to be the best shooters around today, it's just that I find that dismissing them as "parlour games" and ignoring the considerably stiff competition they offer at the higher levels to be rather ignorant.

And professional Halo players? The game is not balanced around that level of competition. For example, once the competition gets stiff enough, people make few enough errors to where if you see the other person first, they always die and you always live. That's not exactly competition, is it? There's little time for reacting and clunky tools with which to react. It's aim and shoot, mainly. That's just not good enough for competitive gaming these days. The control scheme just can't support it :/
And to be fair, no-one's going to disagree with you about Halo not being built for SERIOUS competitive gaming. It isn't, although it's due to the balancing of its game mechanics rather than the control scheme (which can undeniably support professional gaming). However, it DOES offer a good level of competition and challenge at the higher levels, just not enough for professional competitions.
But it's not designed for that because pro competitions suck the fun out of things, like SSB. ugh.
@SBWaffelmann I agree that the console multiplayer community for games like Halo is huge, and don't get me wrong: I loved the first Halo. But as a serious gamer I find it completely insulting when bad sequels are pushed to the shelves and we're expected to pay money for that shit. The second Halo did not build on the first, instead it changed vital shit that everyone loved and it was heartbreaking. CoD 4 wasn't a complete abomination, but it wasn't as pure as the first.

They are both parlor games, though, and that's why they will never be taken seriously by the PC gaming community. They are games that anybody can pick up, play, and enjoy regardless of skill level. Team Fortress 1/2 still had more influence than Quake did, directly that is. An analogy would be that there are metal bands around today that have been FAR more influential on the entire metal scene than the pioneers directly have.
Halo was innovative in terms of the health system, but we're not simply talking about INNOVATION, we're talking about INFLUENCE as well. Halo is far more influential I'm afraid, although it's far from the best FPS series.

1. Goldeneye gave us placement-sensitive shooting, e.g. shots to the torso do more damage than a shot to the foot, and therefore gave us the HEADSHOT. It also gave us placement-sensitive armour, e.g. kevlar vests for torso and helmets. This is a fucking huge innovation.
@immoonligh7 1. (cont.) Before Goldeneye, damage was dealt equally everywhere, from the face to the foot. This has revolutionised shooters more than anything since Doom, and introduced a whole new level of skill (Counterstrike would be shit without this, for example).
2. Goldeneye gave us a mission-based structure. Before, FPS games were merely slogs from point A to point B with enemies in between. Goldeneye gave us assassination missions, intel to recover, C4 to set etc. Again, this is huge.
@immoonligh7 3. Goldeneye gave us stealth elements. It's all very well to go in all guns blazing, but stealth elements add a real layer of depth. See Far Cry, Crysis, and that awesome bit in Half Life where you have to avoid the giant tentacles.
4. It gave us non-combat items/items not directly used for offense. Gadgets, basically. Again, quite an important innovation, which again adds another layer of depth to the game. See the Gravity Gun.

Compareing Halo with UT3? Again?. I dont know why there is an argue in coments to every FPS game. You don't have to hate some game just becouse you like some other more. I, for example, like all of them. Call of duty, Battlefield, Unreal Tournament, Halo... I like them all. Becouse every one of them have something special.
It's obvious the Unreal (Tournament) series is not Epic's priority anymore. They dropped the original Unreal series, we'll probably never see Unreal 3 being released, it's very likely that there won't be a new Unreal Championship game anymore and now I have the bad feeling that Unreal Tournament 3 was the last UT game. Sometimes I just think "FU Gears! You're killing the best game series ever!"
Halo has ultra balanced, little slower, but not slow, very addicting, very fun to play multiplayer with big variety of modes. It's not like CoD with his fast no brain gameplay and community of retards, not like CS. And it's surely NOT LIKE Unreal Tournament, nope, maybe they look similar because of visual design, space and all that shit, but it's two very different games, if you say otherwise - you just being stupid and show that you never played this games. UT is more like Quake by the way.

@Kluscar I don't know how the mods fucked up your PS3 when mods are designed for PS3 as well as the PC, but you can always delete them, I've downloaded all the mods available for the PS3 edition and I've had no problems whatsoever.
And UT is still the shit, I'd choose this over Battlefield and CoD any day of the week.

And professional Halo players? The game is not balanced around that level of competition. For example, once the competition gets stiff enough, people make few enough errors to where if you see the other person first, they always die and you always live. That's not exactly competition, is it? There's little time for reacting and clunky tools with which to react. It's aim and shoot, mainly. That's just not good enough for competitive gaming these days. The control scheme just can't support it :/

And to be fair, no-one's going to disagree with you about Halo not being built for SERIOUS competitive gaming. It isn't, although it's due to the balancing of its game mechanics rather than the control scheme (which can undeniably support professional gaming). However, it DOES offer a good level of competition and challenge at the higher levels, just not enough for professional competitions.
But it's not designed for that because pro competitions suck the fun out of things, like SSB. ugh.

@SBWaffelmann I agree that the console multiplayer community for games like Halo is huge, and don't get me wrong: I loved the first Halo. But as a serious gamer I find it completely insulting when bad sequels are pushed to the shelves and we're expected to pay money for that shit. The second Halo did not build on the first, instead it changed vital shit that everyone loved and it was heartbreaking. CoD 4 wasn't a complete abomination, but it wasn't as pure as the first.

They are both parlor games, though, and that's why they will never be taken seriously by the PC gaming community. They are games that anybody can pick up, play, and enjoy regardless of skill level. Wolfenstein did that. Doom did that. Goldeneye did that (think headshots, area-sensitive damage, mission-based levels, objectives, non-combat gadgets, melee etc.). Unreal did that for multiplayer, to a degree. Team Fortress did that. And now Halo's done that.
Quake didn't do that.

Team Fortress 1/2 still had more influence than Quake did, directly that is. An analogy would be that there are metal bands around today that have been FAR more influential on the entire metal scene than the pioneers directly have.

2. Goldeneye gave us a mission-based structure. Before, FPS games were merely slogs from point A to point B with enemies in between. Goldeneye gave us assassination missions, intel to recover, C4 to set etc. Again, this is huge.

4. It gave us non-combat items/items not directly used for offense. Gadgets, basically. Again, quite an important innovation, which again adds another layer of depth to the game. See the Gravity Gun.

They dropped the original Unreal series, we'll probably never see Unreal 3 being released, it's very likely that there won't be a new Unreal Championship game anymore and now I have the bad feeling that Unreal Tournament 3 was the last UT game. Sometimes I just think "FU Gears! You're killing the best game series ever!"

Halo has ultra balanced, little slower, but not slow, very addicting, very fun to play multiplayer with big variety of modes. It's not like CoD with his fast no brain gameplay and community of retards, not like CS. And it's surely NOT LIKE Unreal Tournament, nope, maybe they look similar because of visual design, space and all that shit, but it's two very different games, if you say otherwise - you just being stupid and show that you never played this games. - Graphics are too blurry (Bring my eyes to tears)
- There is no custom weapon crosshair (One of the coolest thing from Unreal Tournament 2004)
- Actually there is 75% less Customization then Unreal Tournament 2004
- Mission 3 "Flag is this Flag is that" its not funny its ruining the game Story like that just ruin the game Quake 3 have better story. you ask why? because its fun it does not make the game worse like this does... I must say I have all original Unreal Tournament series but this one.
