Friends,let me share with you a short story.I am from México and back in 1980 I was

in a Kibutz in Israel and listening to the radio about occidental artists who play

songs with middle east influences.I heard a song of David Byrne and this song.

Both songs are great but I was specially hooked by Persian love.When I came back to México I wrote a letter to Holger Czukay and he sent me back a big

brochure,photos,and information signed by him.

This song is magic, HOLGER, GOOD JOB!!!!

This was on a sampler record (vinyl) called 'world music' and my naighbour used to play it. Later, after I moved I was searching for this song over and over again. I did not know the title until I heard it in the movie "Uncovered". It was in the end titling.Finally there was cd's and the internet, and I found out that it was brought out on a CD. Took me 14 years searching!

This was on the original WOMAD double LP if I remember correctly. That LP was a revelation for me when it came out. As an isolated American kid with nothing but AM radio I had no idea that a world of music existed like this.

i used to play it again and again ("eyes wide shut"!!!... and loved at first listening (a double white lp womad collection of rare performances sung by peter gabriel, peter hamill, shankar -not ravi!- on double violin... and lots of Artists !...) then i tape recorded it but nowadays impossible to play tapes...

@Chocie965 The WOMAD album referred to is Music and Rhythm (from 1982) and the Shankar is L Shankar who played with John McLaughlin, Frank Zappa, and Peter Gabriel amongst others. Always loved this song and loved the fact Holger Czukay created it from analog (tape) sampling of random searches on shortwave radio. Thanks for posting.

One night in 1982 or so, somebody put this on on WBUR, the Boston University radio station just as we were getting off on some MIT-produced ecstacy (which was still legal then!) and the Rubber Rat Ranch exploded with pleasure...this is still so very fine. This song opened up Middle Eastern sound to me, and I actually wound up living in Turkey in the 80s, just because of this influence. Mind you, after Ankara I ended up in Tokyo, the real and final place I wanted to be: Japan was/is great over there and I was really influenced by the band.
