The little boy did not hand over the object and the officer rightfully so - just took it. If the boy was an adult, he would have been booked (arrest) for ROD. The officer however was punished for NOT FILLING OUT A POLICE REPORT (i.e. MI) over this incident.

@Rhinotaur82 Kid did not listen, he did not obey police officer's orders, kid did not hand over skateboard on lawful demand, kid backtalked and disrespected LEO, kid was advised 4 times to sit down and resisted/refused. Kid comes from a troubled/problematic family background and is 101% super-spoiled (lied in a tv documentary about this case). A little lesson certainly didn't harm the kid and should have initiated some brain cell movement and re-evaluate his attitude. Officer still overreacted

@danubeborn Yeah, but it's not the cops job to discipline the kid. And officers do need to be held accountable. This officer clearly crossed the line and you're making excuses for him. Officers are aloud to restrain people who are a physical threat, this kid clearly wasn't therefore the officer was abusing his power. Just because the officer says to sit on the curb, you don't have to obey. Backtalking and being disrespectful is not against the law.Clearly you don't know where the line is either.

I have mixed feelings on this. Kids KNOW where they can skate and where it's not allowed. I feel it's probably a reoccuring problem there. The kids lack of respect for authority just seemed to fuel the situation. I don't think the cop was within his rights to force the kid down while taking his skateboard. I don't think he had the right to TAKE the kid's board. I don't think there's any permenent damage but a lesson in respect that the kid won't ever forget. Reprimand, yes. Fired, no.
