This brings back memories from highschool. I am however surprised that after 3 years of not being in a latin course that I was able to read that story before the lesson began. I like how you made this though, very informative for the people who have no knowledge whatsoever! Nice work :)
@Konatablob From history we know how the words are to be pronounced. Also, the italian language is very similar to latin. Italian is kind of like a modern latin.
I hope you are still reading these comments. I applaud you for your work.
I was wondering if the formatting of your video (on youtube) reflects a separate program that you are taking a screenshot from. It is very interesting.
I"m Canadian, I took 5 years of high school Latin and 4 more years in University as well as 2 years of Medieval Latin. The pronunciation is off a bit sometimes to my Canadian ear, but not enough to complain about. This is wonderful nostalgia for me, having started in the CLC in grade 9: and these videos can actually teach people Latin from the beginning, so there will be no complaints from me! Thank you for posting all your Latin videos!
No only are R's rolled but i believe the I's are pronounced - e. If you look at the alphabet you'll see this. most latin based languages today are like this. I think you'll see i'm right. The pronunciation on these videos is very english! Sorry not for me. I can imagine this is to latin as the policeman from "alo alo" is to French

hey Katherine why don't you just fuck off and make your own latin course rather than insult the hard work of others?
You could have sent a friendly message informing the author of the errors in pronunciation, but no - you make public post accusing the author of "simply choosing to disregard the usual standard". Perhaps there is a different explanation. perhaps they 'simply' made a mistake, and nobody needs an agressive know-it-all bitch like you to put them down for it.

You read words such as seDET, LaboRAT, scriBIT, dorMIT, laTRAT, surGIT,and claMAT. Every text I have consulted thus far states that Latin words do NOT accent the last syllable. Do you disagree with the standard rules for pronouncing classical Latin for a particular reason or are you simply choosing to disregard the usual standard. It is also my understanding that Latin Rs were rolled.
Hi Katherine. What you are looking at here is a very early video. I learnt Latin from books, rather than a teacher, so I never learned to pronounce words correctly. Since I've started posting I've had a lot of good feedback about pronunciation and made a real effort to improve - it is ongoing - I am far from perfect. My news series - Learning Latin with Virgil - is, I think, an improvement. Cheers.
@TuTubusLatinus yeah I suspected the pronouncitation was not always correct but the most important thing is to read latin and have correct grammar so thanks a lot for the video.

@DimitryMiller That was rude dude. she obviously knows her shit and seeing as how she ignored you makes her that much more wiser in my eyes. You need a manners class more than she does. The empty can always rattles the loudest.
1. No doubt she obviously knows her stuff. That wasn't the issue. The issue was her pointlessly agressive comment on a really good latin course that I very much had appreciated. Like I said, she could of been polite, but instead she was snide and belligerent. Thus, a "fuck off you irritating bitch" was a valid response.
2. She didn't ignore me. She fucked off like I told her to = mission accomplished.
@DimitryMiller it's hard to infer the emotional tone of somebody's text without emotional words explicitly used. Like if I said "Fuck you," you'd know exactly what I meant
Just to give my opinion with it, i think that if the pronunciation coming from a non romance speaker if is pronounced as good as he did it´s wonderfull cuz for us - Romance´s spearkers- is very easy but for an English speaker it will cost a litle more affort. even if learnt by him/her self, wich means more affort to understand and pronouncing. i understand you but please encourages people instead of discouraging, teach to other your knowledges and learn at the same time. :D
@KatherineRogers I actually applaud his proununciation of Classical Latin except for what you mentioned and the proununciation of the long I. In Latin the long I sounds more like Randi rather than pi. Actually, so called long I sound that we use in English exists in Latin as the diphthong "ae".
I took 4 years of Latin in middle through high school, three of which were required at that particular school.
Who cares about the pronunciation! Except if you're in the Magisterium Ha!, however you bloody well spell it....I, for one, am very grateful that TTL is doing a marvelous, valient, and generous service. A Great Gift! Mahalo nui ia o 'ia from Hawai'i!
You are amazing and I really appreciate your time and I have learned from past languages I have learned that you should concentrate on the pronunciation later. It takes time but language is a mimic of the voice. Thanks again. :) I hope I didn't offend anyone.
by the way,i know not that many people are watching these...but you are literally my personal tutor. without you id be lost. thank your for your time that you have spent helping us :D
I knew a few words in latin like fiat lux, tacet, salve but that is practically it.

Is there really a good pronunciation or not? It is a dead language, its not like we can just ask Julius Cesar how he spoke the language
