It's a year and half since Shelby died. I heard the song playing yesterday that was on in the vet's office during the moments when he was being euthanized-Bittersweet Symphany-talk about feeling like I got punched in the stomach again...
He had a vet for exotic animals. I agree with you that when we have them since they're babies, and care for and love them so much, it's like losing a family member. Shelby loved me more than a lot of my human family members do. He was always so happy to see me and never tried to harm me. Maybe that's why people love their pets so much-we are loved by them-and that love is obvious- and we don't get treated like shit by them.
I would ask you if you had his checked by a regular Vet, that is a wild animal that really does not belong in a house, unless you want that house wrecked.
Living in a cage sucks though.
Problem is we always set ourselves up for this, because more times then not we outlive them and a-lot of times, we are there when they are babies, so it's like losing a family member.
I am sorry for your loss. I'm still dealing with mine... I know Shelby was very sick for over a week. I would think about your raccoon's diet and eating habits and if she was acting like something was wrong. Was she peeing/pooing normally? Was she current with her shots? Did she eat something bad or different, poison? Plants? Look into her environment, maybe she got into something.. Look on the web. It takes time to fee better, and write back if you need to. It helps me too. Sincerely, Linda
Great video of a great friend. So sorry for your loss. Please check out some of the videos of my raccoon boys and girls. It will certainly cheer you up. :-)
I feel so sad for you, I know what a bond can form. They are very unique and expressive creatures. Are you sure it was Parvo? What symptoms did he have? Just curious to know if I have seen it before and didn't know.
You don't have to recount it if it is painful--you have my sympathy.
