Everyone's cycle is different, and it's not exactly the same every month. Some women can start ovulating on their periods, or right after. So while the chance is slim, it is still a chance. At no time is unprotected sex "safe".

My attitude towards menstrual sex is that there is nothing wrong with it, as long as the woman is comfortable. The only real objection I ever had with this is that yes, it really was messy. I've done it during the woman's period and we had to clean up afterwards. Also I noticed that for some reason women seemed to be hornier while they were having their period - that just from my own experience. The Biblical prohibitions in Leviticus were focused on that place and time with a more primitive people who had health issues and less access to water, cleaning agents etc. You have to keep that in mind

I actually had sex on my period for the first time about a month ago. He was the one to bring it up. I guess he's actually into the whole 'messy' thing. Anyway, I was nervous at first but as Laci stated, my body knew what was going on and just turned off the blood flow for an hour, give or take. We both enjoyed it VERY much but we got to into it there was a messy load of laundry to do afterwards. All in all, it was SO worth it.
