As with Bellini's Straniera, Scotto single-handedly revived this opera with productions in Lisbon and Venice. Although she is not quite as fresh in voice for the finale of the cabaletta in '79, she brings her usual style and incomparable pathos to the cavatina. One is reminded immediately of Verdi's Un Ballo and Amelia's Morro from the minute the orchestra begins. It is interesting to compare the two arias. (Scotto sang both arias often.) Verdi was obviously influenced here by Donizetti.
