The reason that the polygons go white is that when you select the texture in the hierarchy is highlights that texture alone, if you click off in the hierarchy the textures will appear.
@CoUgHSHoTZz – Hmm, not sure what might be happening here CoUgH; I've just checked this process in C4D r12 and it works the same way. Possibly not making object editable first?

Very bad tutorial. Overexplained and slow. You could have done all of that in 1/3 the time and a couple of text lines.
