So are there any 99-04 cobra long tubes that bolt up without any issues to your knowledge? Do the kooks long tubes work the best for clearance issues? Thanks again for the info.
@ddavila29 No there are no direct swap headers, there is a guy on a couple forums that has been designing some. I am trying to work with Kooks to get a custom set for each of my 2 5.4 cars, they would not be a production set.
@ddavila29 For the long-tube headers yes, short tube you can just man-handle the x-pipe to fit. With the long tubes you have a lot of issues because they cannot protrude from the head very far or they will contact the side frame rails. They will also be about 0.5-1.0" wider at the connecting point to the x-pipe.
@ddavila29 It was FRPP shorty 99-04 Cobra headers, SLP catted X-pipe, and SLP Loud Mouth II cat-back. The car no longer has that exhaust on it, its getting Kooks long-tubes with a 3" Kooks catted X-pipe and Bassani 3" cat-back.
Your Expedition is a 2 valve vs what is installed in my car which is a 4 valve. You can do upgrades to yours and make it run better but it won't be exactly the same as what I do have.
God i love ford people!!!! I never knew ford made a 4.6 and the 5.4L wiper motor hahahaha...... Have u finished this car i would like to see what it can do.

With a 4.165" stroke at 8k it F1 piston speed. Have to remember even though F1 engines spin up to 15k-17k the stroke on a F1 engine ranges from 1.5" to about 2".
OK i guess i dont know what im talking about ha i have have built lots of engine in my day and i am still. u can get the same amount of hp if u rev it to 6500 then having to go all the way to 8000 there is no need to have to rev it up that high and i was wandering if u had everthing fix or whatever cuz it looks like a box of hoses under the hood
This isn't only a street car, and if you knew anything about automotive sports a car that revs higher will typically create more horsepower since horsepower is the result of torque AND rpm! Please don't comment unless you have something inteligent to contribute.
@electricshockproof The intake has runners that are to short creating the need to rev combined with cams that are more aggressive are what makes it need to rev to 8k.
@NightStalker8602 I get the short runners coming alive at higher revs, but I would like to know the cam specs. The lift and duration, overlap and lsa please.
@Alor78 We put 5.4Ls in to get more displacement so when we do the same upgrades to it we make even more power... Thats the same reason Ford ended up putting them in the Shelby GT500s!!
Basically the 5.4 is a bigger 4.6. Just like the old 351 was a bigger version of the 302. So, why not go with the biggest motor in the motor family? And that is why Ford went with the 5.4 in the GT (not the Mustang GT, but the GT) instead of the 4.6.
@Alor78 Because the 5.4 has significant amounts of torque compared to the 4.6. The 4.6 makes horsepower on the top end, but in the end the best rule is "no replacement for displacement..."
My car has a little more than a F150 engine dropped in, it is a 4v like what is in the gt500, has aftermarket cams and a full aftermarket exhaust system...
Love the car, what kind of build up did you do on it. and where did you find a 5.4L Naturally Aspirated DOHC. I want to do a similar build but all the blocks or cast iron, SOHC or supercharged. Thanks

are there any modifications that have to be made when bolting on cobra long tubes and mid pipes for the 4v swap? Thanks!

want the biggest motor in that family? put in a 6.8L v10. that'd turn some heads.

Damn, a 5.4 going to 8k is insane, that's some F1 piston speed right there. Good call on cutting it down to 6500. Killer swap.
@101BadBowtie LOL! What's next? "Y u need dem 8 sylenders!? 4 is plenty fo a street ride!"

@metalmatt1017 I wish that was F1 piston speed....

Y do u need it to rev. to 8 grand? There is no need for a street car to rev. past 6500 rpm what a waist of a car!!

What was so bad about the intake and what are the specs on the cams that were made to rev to 8000 rpms?

i don't understand why people put 5.4 in mustangs with enough bolt ons to a 4.6 you can get more horsepower

@NightStalker8602 Could I essentially do these very same mods on my 97 Expedition, and end up with a very powerful and unique vehicle?

5.4L was a great Idea i was going to take a 5.4 out of my 97 F-150 now i know that it will sound orgasmic lol

I used a 5.4L engine out of a 2000 Lincoln Navigator.

Watched from another computer and it's not there. Love hearing that sound. I posted my 2v 5.4 dyno run a few days ago.
meccastreisand 2 years ago
Did you notice the tick at the beginning of the run? Was that an artifact or an actual pingy? Killer car though.
meccastreisand 2 years ago
I can't hear any pinging. The dyno did kinda make a high pitch noise while it ran but it didn't have any pinging that I know of.

Hey read about your car on corral. Never saw this video on the site though. Cool car mine is going together now.
