She's ok nothing exceptional (one doesn't need much to be better than Darcey Busell). Kolesnikova was turned down by the Kirov and ended with St Petersburg Ballet. For a really good Odile watch Gilliam Murphy in the role, there are much better Odettes though such as Lucia Lacarra.
OMG!!!Are you people crazy???do you know they actualy told about this discussion in the news?!the video-Mistery of Irina's Kolesnikova's British triumf-there it is.Only it's in russian so not all can undersstand. But it says that even in Youtube there is wide an international discussion if it's the magic tutu or special shoes wich make Irina do those triple attitudes.
P.S.are you sure she is wearing GM?Doesn't look so to mee:)
saritisimayo, don't be so harsh to tommaxtom I am sure you are both knowledgeable and both dance very well I like to record facts about ballet Send us the links so we can see the 3 pirouettes in the Odile variation done by 'many ballerinas' Then you can either prove your point or apologise to tommaxtom !
I am sorry "saritisimayo" but 3 clean pirouettes attitude en-dehors in this variation , it is very rare ... and I think I have seen and danced (!) much more ballets than you !
I just say that this is not the first time this choreographie is danced, and that there are many ballerinas who can dance like Kolesnikova. And as you don´t know anything about me, you shouldn´t say that you dance better than me, because...in which company are you dancing at the moment? Oh, my God...now I´m sure you´ll say something like "to inform you, my dear girl, I am Tamara Rojo". Wahat a pity...
quelle pirouetteuse !! c 'est la première fois que je vois une danseuse faire 3 pirouettes attitudes lors de cette variation ...de façon propre qui plus est chapeau !
I love Irina! I met her after a performance of Swan Lake in January and I still think about it like every day hehe :) As good as this video is, seeing her live is like visiting another world-the world of evil sorcerers and women who become swans beneath the light of the moon.
P.S. --- oh my goodness, she really DOES look like svetlana Korkhina!!!
its not the shoes at all. yes they support you and and stuff, but turning is something that has to be practiced a LOT. dont stereotype her by her shoes. she has amazing talent and a gift for turning. most likely she didnt wear GMs in school, and thats where it all starts.
one of our company members can do 7 attitude turns, and shes got freeds. turning like that is a gift, not shoes.
does anyone read The Stage(UK)? Saw this on their site
"Irina Kolesnikova has that marvellous Russian soul which makes her Odette a creature of tragic proportions. Is there any other ballerina dancing the role of Odette/ Odile who can equal her?"Richard Edmonds The Stage
that is the most outrageous reasoning ever. I have worn bloch, grishko, and gaynor, and I turn better in grishko elites. They fit my foot just right and help my placement... the shoe is supposed to help you not hinder you. Gaynors didn't make my turning suddenly amazing... proper placement did, as well as, practice!
what's wrong with wearing a shoe that makes you balance and turn well? Isn't that the point? You find the shoe that fits your foot and works best for you. It's an advancement in shoe technology. Do you think many dancers today could do 4 pirouettes on pointe in a pair of Taglioni's shoes? Could gymnasts perform the skills they do today without the advancement in apparatus technology?
Actually, I am aware of the fact that her technique is outstanding and allows her to do many of the difficult maneuvers she does. However, the shoes clearly help her accomplish them and without her Gaynor's I doubt we would see consistant turns like that from this dancer. Look at Gillian, Alina Cojocaru and several other dancers and you will see that they have balance, but they also are wearing the same type shoe.
It's clear you have never worn a pointe shoe in your life. Do you mean anyone wearing Gaynors are going to dance SL like that? You have no idea how many people fall apart from pirouettes wearing Gaynors or any other shoe. If the trick was that easy, believe me, we could skip 10 years of school and years of maintainance, also we wouldn't have to audition for the Kirov, all we had to do was send them our resume saying we worn Gaynors and we would be hired on the spot and starring in their next SL.
It has nothing to do with Gaynor Mindens. I have seen plenty of people who can't even make them bend. I have also seen plenty of people do do multiple turns with Freeds and other brands. The only thing that explains this is her near perfect placement.
j'adore le dans eplus que tout ! et je trouve que c'est magnifique. je suis aller voir votre spectacle aux zeniths.

I think she tries to hard to land her turns and bounces around a lot doing so but otherwise she is very pretty.

I don't understand how a pair of pointe shoes can all of a sudden make you do multiple and beautiful turns... please explain this one..?
laura8502 4 years ago
Its not all of a sudden.. and its not just the point shoes... its years of endless and intensive training of your muscles in the technique of ballet.
FlamingFrey 4 years ago
Well...I guess you just know everything about training in "the technique of ballet." Haha I laugh at you.

wow! she's great! triple pirouette in attitude and the last one - four pirouettes!
yes, i agree that often it depends on type of pointes you wear

Has anyone seen film of Gillian or Alina consistent turns to match the technique of Irina?
Are you an agent for Gaynor Minden Fatty? Is this free advertising for their shoes?
