  • ey do you mind if i remix this? i've been looking for music in genres not normally associated with electronic remixes and this definately fits that description

  • This, sir, is awesome. Big ups

  • @SolMerc Thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • Remind me why this song doesnt have millions of views again?

  • @ht3mex Hey thank you ;8)

  • your four eyed psychedelic thumbnail attracted my psychedelic eye icon to your en"light"ening song

  • I love this

  • Beautiful Lyrics. The music is really dark and mysterious but I belive thats what i really like about it. Having these combined atributes seem to make it have a deeper meaning.

  • @2010Tplayer Thank you ;8)

  • Very cool song!

  • Absolutely, lovely. Mmm, one of the most disheartening experiences I have ever had, was to never be appreciated. For me to fit into a mould that is more palatable to the listener or viewer. To conform, to change.

    To not be myself.

Great job as usual, 5 stars.

  • Thanks. And I so agree about being yourself. A lot of people read this song as addressed to someone else — and I left it open to that. But for me it was about losing touch with yourself — finding a gap between who you are and the things you find yourself doing which are not you at all.

  • 5 stars. Wonderful song! It's great to see someone who celebrates creativity in it's many forms. You dazzler!

  • Thanks rise1931. I sometimes get complaints when I do a bit of art or music, telling me I should be one thing. To me, that's a sad and very distorted view of humanity. So I appreciate your comment, that recognises we all have more to us.

  • ...by the way. i have two questions- 1) are you open to any suggestions to listen to musical artists? there is a certain song that i would like you to hear, and i do think you may like. (maybe, lol) 2) Would you like help in making this song download-able? i can tell you how. however, it would be a free download.

  • Hello FilthyIcon, 1) Yep, I'm always open to music recommendations — a, brings new music my way, and b, interesting to see the connections people make. And 2) I've been discussing this issue with an old friend, who thinks I've always given away way too much for free — they make a pretty tough case. So, cheap downloads is, if anything, what I'm looking into — something that gives my work at least a gesture of self-value.

  • very well, sounds great! i will send you some PM's then, i hope thats okay

  • is it ready for buying/downloading yet?

  • Hi Sassafrasican, been exploring various options — so far nothing's come through as viable yet, but when I find an option I'll be announcing it on the channel, probably with clips of available tracks.

  • As a musician myself, i must say you are quite good. the music to me is very hypnotic, it just draws you in...such a shame it is 3 minutes, i didnt want it to end :)....

  • Thanks FilthyIcon. Martin? Oh he's just a lodger we took a shine to — we saw many candidates, but none of the others offered to iron our underpants on a daily basis.

  • @TheraminTrees hahaha.....i cant imagine why. Oh well. Pants on!

  • A very sensual and ethereal love song. Beautiful! Is the singer-songwriter also the artist who created Wise Monkey?

  • Hello MysteryLily. Yes, I'm the WiseMonkey guy. ;8)

  • I liked the song until about 1:50. After that I just loved it. :)

Great piece. Are there by any chance plans to make it available as mp3?

  • Thanks KingKolunikus. I'm investigating ways to make mp3s available next year. If I get something up and running, I'll do a video with clips of the mp3s that'll be available. All the best! ;8)

  • Yay. That's great news, thank you very much. :)

  • This song is lush and gorgeous. I have fallen in love with this song.

  • Hey Jesus. Thanks — and nice to see you.

  • Were the vocals synthesized? Your tone reminds me of Radiohead. Anyway, the piece was inspiring.

  • Thanks. I was singing into an old webcam on this one, so there are various effects to counteract noise, distortion, etc. But there's only so much you can do, then the noise reducers introduce their own flutter noise. I've got a new Snowball mic now and may re-record.

  • Hang on! Are you QualiaSoup?

    lol

    :o)

Who ever you are this rocks. Have a great week.

    Gary

  • Cheers Gary! Qualia's my brother, so it's an easy thing to mistake us for each other. This project stems from a channel called TheJamCommunity, where musicians of all backgrounds build up songs by adding an instrument with each progressive video. All the best ;8)

  • @TheraminTrees if qualia is your brother, then whoo is martin?? D:

  • Wow! I saw you a while ago on Lo's channel and I think QualiaSoup's and love your vids... where did this come from?! It's fantastic.. A wonderful audio mix too. It has a great Goldfrapp vibe, haunting and human. Wonderful.

    :o)

    Gary

  • COOL

  • Very nice, hauntingly relaxing and emotional. You are very talented! There's not enough stars to rate this:( Guess I'll have to give it 5 stars.

  • Hey anderstc, thank you very much! ;8)

  • so lovely the voice flows forth; all encouragement from here: more!

  • haunting and peculiar 5 stars

  • Thank you StaulkHolm

  • I'm back. I just love this. I remember when I could hit those notes!! .

  • I meant to say I was humming this song this morning and thought to myself - 'what is that song'?'

haunting- in a *good* non- clowny way! LOL

  • You know it's funny Lesley, but you've often come to mind with this song because of your beautiful mountain dulcimer work in your 'High Coo Musical' vid — in my studio I have to work with the limits of what my sound banks can approximate, but that dreamy sound was a big mental reference for the guitar sound here!

  • I listened to this twice. I hope you don't mind. ;-)

  • Well now that's simply unforgivable! ;8)

  • how did I miss this?

this is SO good. I didn't know you could sing - and so beautifully. Great phrasing , too - which takes a special gift. This is a standout- still amazing it's your first ever song.

    *bow* I'm not worthy!!

  • Hey Lesley! Thank you for your lovely message ;8) I recorded this as an instrumental for another channel. I've always shied away from 'songs'. Pure music's always been more of a draw, not having to 'mean' anything. But I started humming the tune in the swimming pool that day, and thought — Let's give it a go. Life's for trying new things after all ;8)

  • I say you need to swim more often.

    remarkable song and voice.

  • and I'm not just *saying* that to persuade you to say YES! LOL

  • This song and video has a sense of wonder and emotion to it. Great vid!

    5 stars*****

  • Thanks KomicGenius!

  • You never, ever stop surprising and impressing me.

  • Thanks Snowfee! ;8) a2zdiy and bCurious2 have both done vocal rounds on TheJamCommunity, so in a spontaneous mood I thought I'd have a stab. Instrumentals are more my thing, but it was fun and I'd like to try some more.

  • TT, is this downloadable? :)

  • Not as yet, but I'm looking at some possible interfaces.

  • Lemme know!

  • me too. just can't stop coming back to this!

  • Your videos are mesmerizing.

I am constantly coming across youtube channels that I have severe difficulty believing to be solitary efforts. In your case, I have difficulty believing that yours is not a Youtube system meant to demonstrate the visual possibilities afforded by this site and their proper applications.

  • Why thank you LanceDirk. Video wasn't on my radar a couple of years ago — in fact I was probably quite closed off from it. It's been great fun to experiment with, and very stretching — which is why I always encourage friends with even a vague curiosity in video work to just dive in.

  • The first video of yours I saw was the emotional analysis of the transition to atheism video. The choice to have only your eyes visible was fitting, and gave me sense of honesty from you, for, and I'm sure this crossed your mind while making video, they say eyes are the window to the soul. The way you spoke from a different box for each phase also just made it feel official in a way. What I'm trying to say is you communicate very well with visuals, among other methods.

  • How do I legitimately get this track on my iPod? (I dont mind paying for the track).

  • download firefox and then download download helper add-on for it then download some converter and convert it to mp3. Then donate money to the artists. Do this for all songs if you just buy them you are paying record companies which steal money from artists and make tracks more expensive.

  • Id much prefer to have a high quality MP3 of this rather than one ripped out of a flash file as I want to play it on my stereo too. Although I do like the thinking behind your comment :-)

  • what is the audio quality on youtube? I thought it was pretty descent.

  • What genre is this considered? Not only do I have a lot of respect for you already for being truthful and straight in your other videos, but I actually like this quite a bit. That's a lot coming from a Metal Head. =P Keep it up, Hope to hear more in the future. Amazing Music, Artistic video, thanks man.

  • You made my day! This is so freakin' good! 5 stars!

  • Thanks PupDogRecords!

  • That was excellent! Bravo! You're putting the contracted artists to shame. ;)

  • Hey thanks Maryann! ;8) It was a totally alien discipline to me recording vocals — but good fun!

  • This song has a great sound to it. And I love that lyric: "I see now--/Ill be picking up new reading material." Very cool.

  • Thank you Tiny ;8) How's your daughter's 'Zombies' piece coming along? She having fun?

  • brilliant.

  • Thanks Paul

  • Is there anything you can't do?!

I like it. A lot! I'm sure you're FAR too young to remember, but there are definite elements of Japan and David Sylvian to this song. More please! :-)

  • Thanks Rob ;8) I never heard a lot of Japan. In their day, they seemed a quiet unassuming presence — which is what I gravitate towards in artists nowadays, but at the time more forceful folks like Siouxsie grabbed my attention. Rob — my Rob — has 'Ghosts' [??] on his iPod. But I do have a David Sylvian track on mine that I love — a piano piece called, I think, "September's here again".

  • This is really realaxing, i really feel like alot of effort was put into this music ans for that its a 5 star and a fav. A few more like this will deserve a CD :D

  • Thanks Evo ;8)

  • Hypnotic

  • Thanks X ;8)

  • Listened to this 3 times now...God ! 'Females' seemed to come in around 1.10...but now I can hear it could be either fe/male....life can be quite confusing...and I am a mess...!!

  • This is like the fourth time I've watched this. With every viewing I like it more than I liked it the last time -- and I liked it a lot from the start. So, yeah, just ... excellent. :-)

  • Hey Prof! Thanks ;8) I was gonna upload a version with drums and other instruments, but I thought I'd stick with this simpler take from TheJamCommunity.

  • You're awesome(:

  • Why thank you Ryhoiku ;8)

  • I thought it was great the first time, but this version is definitely it!

    Bravo!

  • Hey Andy! Thanks. ;8)

  • That was quite impressive.

  • That makes me think of Goldfrapp lol. The high voice in Utopia.

  • Goldfrapp's debut was great wasn't it — haven't got round to hearing their last one yet, but it sounded like a return to more experimental stuff.

  • I put that on my facebook wall

    Bravo Monsieur Theramin.

No Theremin synth in this song ?

  • I have to say I'm surprised. There were certain parts of the arrangement that were quite "mature" and well... had balls. Of this I am envious. I am a musician myself, and although I come up with fantastic licks and especially chord structures, currently my arranging is what is lacking.

  • This was so beautiful. Simply stated and sincere.

  • Cool...

  • Awesome, I loved it :)

  • Thanks Sstellethyss ;8)

  • Very interesting. Almost dissonant in places--I notice you favour this kind of music! You have a pleasant voice for singing :)

  • Thanks flaze — and yep, I do seem to gravitate towards dissonance, don't I? ;8)

  • I would love to see this on MySpace. I want it to be my new song haha.

  • Ok, that's no fair. Multi-talented...you make me sick!

  • Link, I'm speechless ......

  • "Link, I'm speechless ...."

    — LOL! Now Linny, how am I ever gonna read your lips?? ;8)

  • I LOVE THIS! :)

  • Totally amazing. Are you in the business of releasing more (maybe an album /hint)?

  • Thanks Irbubble. This is my first song — it was a spontaneous, enjoyable experience, originally recorded for TheJamCommunity channel where I jam with other musicians, and one I'll be repeating.

  • This song is trippy, gentle and gorgeous. I really like it!

  • Thanks Sh0nin!

  • Don't like it, sorry, I'm a rock fan though, so not exactly surprising. Make more atheist vids please, that's why I'm subbed to you.

  • Thumbs up for the second part of your comment. I like it!

  • Haha thanks. I love the way people are thumbing me down because I said I didn't like it, even though I apologized for that and explained why.

    Some people are blind.

  • Absolutely awesome!

Your talent seems to be boundless!

I would love to hear you do vocal for some of the jam community material! :D

  • Why thank you CptUnknown! ;8) It was fun doing vocals for a change — certainly like to do more with those fabulous folks on TheJamCommunity.

  • Awesome

  • wow i just listened to this after i was hungover and it made me feel great :D

  • Beautiful...

I'm curious, what processing do you use on your voice?

  • Thanks TheSameDonkey — I used various effects on the intelligible stuff to put it into the same aural 'space' as the music, like EQ, chorus, reverb, delay. And some fun effects on the other more garbled bits: GuitarAmp, Fuzz-Wah, and so on.

  • Will you write some lyrics to Coronation Street?

  • I kind of see Corrie's theme tune as something you'd 'scat' to ....

  • This is great. Wonderful effects....I sense you had fun doing it....oh by the way....I am replying from my 'poetry' channel...I am also xyzllii

    5*s

  • Well hello xyzllii ;8) Thank you. Yes, it was fun — eventually. Originally I had way too many layers of vocals going on and it just sounded muddy and heavy. Learned a lot about keeping things simple.

  • I like the way you 'shimmered' to the female vocals...G8 effects...

  • LOL there weren't any female vocals — it was all me ;8)

  • more please

  • Heh, I was just in the mood for something like this. It seems almost inhuman (not in the "cruel" sense) - or perhaps so rawly human that it doesn't seem to be so. Strangely beautiful.

  • Thank you qwerty ;8)

  • This is beautiful Theramin.

  • Nice new video! Can keep on listening to this endlessly.

  • Thanks BC2! ;8) I thought it would be nice to do a more personal version of the video.

  • on my second viewing... i just realised that your bridge sounds very much like an actual theramin! ha! well done! it's not everyone who can incorporate a theramin into a decent piece of music!

i see that i'm going to have to apportion my praise over time (you just never disappoint)....

  • Thanks Sassafrasican. LOL I see what you mean about the theremin sound! I would love a real theremin — alas all I have on that front are synthesised software-studio approximations.

  • renaissance man.

  • Very Good Theramin.. it kind of reminded me of Genesis's "Entangled" .. its got that haunting quality about it. .. i cant see Chris Moyles playing it, but Radcliffe & Maconi definatly would.. 8/10

  • LOL — if Chris Moyles wouldn't play, mission accomplished! I love Radcliffe & Maconi — such a great 'double act' aren't they.

  • Saved to my favorites for the simple reason that I want to listen over and over.

  • 2bsirius, it's always so lovely when friends enjoy your work — I had no idea this would be to your taste! Thank you ;8)

  • This was pretty damn good. I could totally see this being on a CD (not like that's a real measure of music quality nowadays) with a little more time in the studio processing the audio.

  • Yep — singing into a webcam doesn't make for the biggest range of options on the vocal production front — but a friend tells me there are some pretty high-end USB mics out there, so I'm looking into it. ;8)

  • Reminds me of Porcupine Tree's style. Good Stuff.

  • Hey, thanks for introducing me to Porcupine Tree.

  • haunting, evocative and meaningful.

  • Thank you gilraen ;8)

  • tragically romantic

  • Actually, I like it much!

  • I liked it, not bad, not my cup of tea but good job!!!

  • Thanks rodnik!

  • fantastic work! ...it sounds so demeaning to say that its good but not "CD" good but your music and video were very nice...id expect to hear something like this in a movie during the final realization stage of a thriller.

I know that there is no "polite" way to say that its good but not "HUGE ARTIST" good..but as smart as you are, im sure you know what I mean.

  • LOL it's OK! Don't worry about me feeling 'demeaned'. Musical taste is about as subjective as you can get — there'll be those who absolutely loath this piece. It's nice that you liked it ;8)

  • this song drugged my soul. now i need more.

how many talents can 1 person have i ask you?

make a cd. i'll snatch it.

  • Why thank you Danna! You're very kind ;8)

  • Beautiful beyond words. It's like alien plant life.

  • 'It's like alien plant life.'

Roan, that's perhaps one of the nicest compliments I've had — really speaks to me. Thanks ;8)

  • I'm not nearly as artistic so I'll be honest and say I'd have preferred a simpler presentation (less distortion, less messing with images and colours.

    but then that's my hangup.

    thanks for sharing

  • That was amazing , you have so many talents , I'm jealous .

    Thank you Theramin

  • Ah you're over on this one too alphadog! Thanks again ;8)

  • Very nice. Reminds me I need to work harder on my recordings.

  • Thanks Critical. Me too!

  • wow Theramin this is so beautiful thanx for sharing this. well done!

  • Thanks!

  • Except for "around, found and down". Missed that the first time through. Subtle and nice.

  • It's funny — it was only when I read your comment that I realised I just don't think about rhyming. I'm now wondering when that happened — as a small child, if it didn't rhyme it just wasn't a song! Same for poetry. Hm ... thanks mccarty ;8)

  • Very nice, the video as well. And no rhymes...excellent.

  • I just knew this was going to be well done. It was.

  • Thank you eequals ;8)

  • Fantabulous!

I love the video - when you published the first version to TheJamCommunity channel, I heard those high notes, and told myself that you'd done it with logic, or with some other means of digital manipulation... It's not humanly possible, I told myself - forgetting that it's best not to put anything past you, talent and ability-wise.

You really are in the OM (Lack Of) G category in the skills department.

    Cheers Bro!

  • Thanks a2z ;8) I was going to upload a version I started working on yesterday with some drums and bass, but I thought I'd stick with this minimal one. And oh there's a lot of effect work smoothing/denoising/reverbing/delaying my webcam's crusty microphone sound — but there's only so much you can do ;8) MusoSF recommended a Snowball USB mic — I think for things like a capella a decent mic would be essential. Your vocals always sound great — what do you use?

  • Thank you TT!

For recording vox and Sax, I use an AKG C3000 condenser mic into an Emu USB audio 0202 audio/midi interface.

I've had that mic since forever, so there are probably better mics for less money now-a-days.

  • Thanks a2z! All going down in my little notebook ;8)

  • Magnifico! Your talent seems limitless :)

  • You're very kind cruxiamentum ;8)

  • funny, there's already an mp3 up for download...... shouldn't say where though I suppose.

  • Very nice voice you have indeed!

  • Hey thank you Lihiro ;8)

  • I enjoyed this greatly.

  • Thanks npeffer

  • Guess I will be the first to go against the grain here... :-( I didn't really like it... But I will give it another chance in a day or two to be fair.

To me it seems like They Might Be Giants meets The Cure. And it does have an eerie timber with a sullen meter. I feel it is rather lackluster, though that maybe the intention after all.

Now I feel bad.. :-( But it is only my opinion. ;-)

  • Hey — no need to feel bad just because a bit of music's not to your taste ;8)

  • NIXW, sorry I meant NICE

  • Thanks!

  • Exquisite song. Secksy QuadroBrow. Weaksauce generic video fx.

  • I fucking hate that all my friends on YouTube are so goddamn talented and can and do produce **amazing** things. I wish you would all rot.... err....

Dude, this is really really good. Seriously. The video was amazingly eerie. Your first??

    I hate you.... :)

  • LOL! Thanks Ancient! Yep, first song. I was prompted to have a stab by two brilliant musician friends bCurious2 and a2zdiy who I jam with and who are always doing great vocal pieces.
