USSR has collapsed and look at what is going on in Greece. The political philosophies of any given President (aka "Scapegoats"), House or Senate leading up to the 8 recessions of the past 42 years vary too greatly to blame it on any perceived political leanings. "Fiscal tightening" (trying to get a handle on overspending) precedes most recessions, which leads me to wonder if recessions aren't a necessary growing pain.
@multitalentino I might also add that tax rate cuts are generally countered by loophole closures as the system fights to continue to collect the same percentage of the GDP every year.
