Small block Chevy guys always feel inadequate around a Cleveland; thats why they all love to try to call a Cleveland a big block. I think its cause that have valve cover envy!
The main difference between 351C/351M/400 engines is connecting rod length and main bearing size. The 351M/400 engines have the largest bearing size and the tallest deck height while sharing the 429/460 bell housing pattern. The 351C engine has a medium main bearing size (2.75") and shorter connecting rods (5.78") than the 351W (5.94") and the 351M/400 (6.58") while retaining the SBF (289-302w) engine mount locations and bell housing pattern.
@jaratt85 yeah i know the difference. Ive owned many. specifically i was speaking about the differece between 351C and 400M..same family differnt mounting for both trans and motormount. the C will bolt easily anywhere a winsor was with no problems
@MrTpengineer A Cleveland is of Ford's 335 series (351C/351CJ/351HO/351Boss/351M/400). A Windsor is of Ford's 90 Degree series (221/260/289/289HiPo/302/302TunnelPort/302Boss/351W). Technically Ford never classified their engines as "small block" or "big block"...that's a GM term. Yes, both the C & W shared the small bell housing bolt pattern.
@godzspeed Ok, but still Big Block and Small block is still used with differnet companies, that doesn't really matter haha. Yea kinda messed up on the C and W :(
The Cleveland block is different from a Windsor. But the 351C block is slightly larger and the water neck is in the block itself, unlike the Windsor which runs through the front of the intake manifold. Yes, the main difference is the heads! Canted valves, 4V quench heads and huge ports make a ton of power. Aussie, 2V heads are a good option for low end torque. That said, a well built 351C 4V, will match just about anything out there. I see it happen at the drags all the time!
The cleveland is a smallblock as it shares their mounts and transmissions. The displacement being the same as the Windsor. The awesome difference is their canted valve heads. Even in 2v form they still rock on the Windsor block.
@stonesour1973 technically the cleveland is an intermediate block according to ford. the biggest difference in the design is the fact that the C was designed by the same guy that did the olds rocket 350, as easily seen by the timing area being part of the block and the thermostat housing bolting straight into the block rather than the intake.. plus like you said the canted and sometimes multi angle valves
@NicksBurnouts It has twin DOHC,32V.And its not that bad,206 kW and 400 Nm.Has plenty of torque for a 1,8 ton car + it drives all wheels. Also the cleveland has much more displacement,so yeah,it wouldnt be fair to compare it to cleveland.
@NicksBurnouts Well there is always 572 and 632 and if you think that these dont add up to cleveland, then there is also a 13 liter Weineck engine made in germany.
@1SUAV3 quite a bit. relocate motor mounts, relocate transmission crossmember, shift linkage, and several other things. it'd be easier to swap a nice warmed over 4.6L modular platform into that car (which it should have already), or a 5.4L
@chris71mach1 yea it has the 4.6 i just want somethin wit alot more horses 1 day and i had been lookin at these enigines for a while i use to have one in my old car but i sold it and they wrecked it and had it crushed dumb fuckers
that sounds sooooooo nice!

In the "Shelby Cobras at Donington" link, both black Cobras have 351 Clevelands in them. The Aluminium Cobra has a 427.

Both the 351-W and 351-C use the "small block" 6-bolt bell housing pattern.
dofleni 1 year ago
@dofleni the 351c can bolt up the c6 trans I dont believe the W can
jaratt85 1 year ago
@dofleni 351 cleland is entry level big block, 351 Winsdor is a small block, I think the bolt patter might mach.
