How do you film someone stepping off a window ledge onto the roof of a moving double-decker bus?!? Is there a trick involved here? This has had me baffled for a long time!
Jim Franklin must be one of the cleverest directors in television history, and the Goodies did some of the most spectacular and daring stunt work.
Unfortunately the shot of Bill pushing over the tree wasn't quite so convincing (as it's a little too obvious that the whole picture is simply rotating 90 degrees to the left), but never mind. They were doing better film work on The Goodies in 1970 than most other shows were doing at the time.
Yes, that bus scene looks pretty dangerous! Can it be anything but a skilled driver driving very close and Bill taking an awfully dangerous jump up? Did they use stuntmen or did they do the stunts themselves?
I watched loads of telly as a kid in 1970, but I honestly can't remember this very first 'GOODIES' series---it must have been screened late on BBC2-----shame, as I would have loved these shows.

So that big, beautiful tree was cut down just for that shot. How sad - but what a great show!

It was on late, same time slot as Python, around 10 - 10.30. Not allowed to swear in 1970s, so ended up being watched by kids and adults alike!
