lemme know if you want my friend's opinion on it. he does a lot of futuristic concept development stuff and is like a god in that field. I don't mean it in a bad way but he'd be able to take your cube concept and turn it into something more refined and practical at least conceptually, but again, don't take it the wrong way I think your idea is sweet!
Personally I think idea is great, though to me I would much rather use it on a flat surface for most. The multi-display is very awesome. I could seriously see myself using this.
Everyone seems to think we need technology to allow us to sit in a room and listen to music while we wait for our friends to arrive and share their pictures with us. Multitouch technology is such a fad now, and most of these concepts are highly impractical applications of it.
Too small, limited usefulness, awkward. The software is nice, the choice of it being a cube is not (you can only see at most 3 sides - 50% of screen - at once).
Yeah, really cool, you can't use it blindly, since it lacks tactile feedback and it's a darn slow way to use any computing device if you have to wait for that fancy ui to move.
It'd be halfway awesome if you wouldn't have to carry(please, add a handle and cut off it's legs!) it around and just make the gestures into thin air.
It is just an interesting concept, but as far as using it...eerr...it's pointless and looks very useless. Want to impress due to the "gesture" tech, go ahead, but it will fail to work as a home entertainment device
comments are quite right.. its not very intuitive.
besides that, whats the special thing?
NOT touching the surface actually makes it harder to use due to missing tactile feedback. even the gestures are similar to the ones used on multitouch screens.
As a proof of concept its really interesting but I'm not sure why anyone would want something that they have to cart from room to room. As far as a media device the screen seems wrong set-up and too small for video/ movies, too bulky for a music controller (ipod touch/droid) and we already have e-picture frames. It just doesn't seem very utilitarian enough for me, but I dig the fake music.
Completely stupid. What's the point of all the sides? And they say it's intuitive. How is sliding the side of your hand along the edge of the cube to change volume intuitive? How do you intuitively know that that's how you change the volume? Why not a volume slider?
You will use the cube for what? Photos? Recipes? Music? What more this little box do? Just to impressing friends how rick you are. Come on, you can even read a book nor navigate on internet easily. I prefer the unfinished ipad for while and lets try to do real technology and not one a thing to make people be impressed!
That is great. So, do all those effects have to be applied on a computer on top of that green cube? Yeah! i mean, just sit there and pretend that your green screen cube actually does something and then later apply the effects on your computer and whatch it actually happen! SWEET!!!
I think "stuff" like this would be cool... but this perticular concept is not very comfortable.. the gestures would have to be refined a lot more.. for instance, to play music.. I dont see why my hands need to move a incredible amount just to hit play, volume, pause.. like touching one side of the cube to select music, the other to play, a corner to pause... it's more novel than functional. I have a lot of ideas about how to make it much more intuitive.
well, the Gesture Cube allows 3D gestures which is beyond pure touch (e.g. the iPad).... so no need to touch the surface, a simple weave in 3D space is enough.
@GestureCube This is a cool tech demo, however as an actual product its like a super expensive ipad that isn't very portable and doesn't have nearly as much usefulness and the only upside is that you don't have to directly touch it? I can't imagine you can produce this thing for any less then $1500. Also i can't give you credit for creative design since I feel the entertainment cube concept is a cliche concept from like 10 years ago.
this is such a great idea although it looks a bit fake.
it would be cool if their was actually a release date and people would have it

I dont want to carry this across my apartement.
Gesture capability and more Multimedia capabilities of LCD TV's would be far more interesting than just another device

@bonesi Then... dont carry it around... just keep it in 1 spot... Glad I could help

I dunno about you, but a cube shape seems less practical to me than a flat screen or maybe even just a projection.
