  • I still get goosebumps watching this! RIP Barbaro!

  • Leggenda Barbaro.,

  • And here comes Barbaro! The UNDEFEATED Barbaro! He comes up on the outside and he takes the lead as the field turns for home in the Kentucky Derby Barbaro turns in on!

    ~*~*Ripley*~*~

  • In my opinion, he was the next Secretariat. Heart of a champion

  • Comment removed

  • The magic is still present. Even 5 years later....Thank you Barbaro for such a wonderful and memorable performance....

  • It's just me, but I think there's just way to much horses on the track today.

  • Should there be mandatory requirements that Racehorses be evaluated by an impartial Veterinarian....before they Race? Too many 'break down'. DDALEPOWELL is right, it's not NATURAL, not normal. It's dreadful what happened to this very YOUNG horse!

  • my god what a horse.........god rest your soul barbaro....you are a hero ...miss you so much

  • Barbaro was a fantastic colt, but I don't believe he would have won the Triple Crown. Rather than crown a Triple Crown champion, I believe we would have had an epic rivalry between he and Bernardini. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and who knows, maybe he would have won the Triple Crown. I think the only sure thing to come would have been the Barbaro/Bernardini rivalry, which would go down with the likes of Affirmed-Alydar, Sunday Silence-Easy Goer, and now Blind Luck-Havre De Grace. JMO.

  • @MBernier08 Completely, completely agree.

The only colt in recent years that I think would have won the TC if he'd had the chance was Eskendereya. Before the Derby, I thought he had a slim shot at the TC. In hindsight, I think he very well may have done it if he'd been sound. Not b/c he was THAT great, but just THAT superior to every other horse in the crop. Sadly, injury forced retirement before he could prove anything against Lookin at Lucky, the only one who may have challenged him, imo

  • @MissStarryDay Spot on with regards to Eskendereya; he looked so far superior the rest of the 3 y.o. crop that I think he would have had a great shot at the Triple Crown. That said, I really would have liked to have seen what Lookin at Lucky could have done as a 4 year old. He was developing nicely, and ran a solid 4th in the Classic behind two outstanding race horses (Blame, Zenyatta) and a respectable colt that benefited from a scorching pace (Fly Down). Just my 2 cents.

  • @MBernier08 Yes, it would've been great to see him at 4. He was a talented and solid colt, even if he wasn't as brilliant as others. Looking at his pedigree, I would think he'd definitely be capable of flourishing at 4 - maybe he could've made history and joined the Bid in being champion 2yo, 3yo, and older male in his career... especially looking at the shallow handicap division this year.

  • He is right up there with Man O'War. Barbaro now u run in heaven as much as you want to~

  • Another great race horse that stole the hearts and minds of Horse racing fans everywhere. These animals love to run. They live for it and Barbaro was no exception to that rule. He was so well loved and is still deeply missed. I was around when our dear Secretariat was alive and I watched him run like the wind. Barbaro possessed that same spirit for the sport. Had he not had issues with his legs he could have been just as great.

  • Meraviglioso.

  • i miss Barbaro soo much!! The Preakness was terrible...he wouldve made a great sire to many foals....but what i am not liking is that the owners are racing his two brothers Nicanor and Lentanor...makes me cry just thinking about them all :(

  • @MYRuffian1975 It's not so smart, or humane - i agree

  • I remeber when I was young, my Dad showed me the cover of the newspaper. Barbaro on the cover, with his broken leg. My Grandma watched Barbaro's progress. We all hoped he would be okay. But one day. my grandma said they put him down. I was devestated. I hope he's happy in heaven.

  • i miss barbaro so much ;)

  • If only thing's had not gone so tragically wrong for Barbaro in the Preakness. 2006, IMO, could've produced the most competitive head to head rivalry since Sunday Silence vs. Easy Goer in 89' in the shape of Barbaro vs. Bernardini. Both 2 of the most talented American conventional dirt horses to come down the pike in ages. Both's career record's speak for themselves. Even Barbaro's with a limited amount of race. But look at what both he and Bernardini won during their careers. JMO.

  • @GBeret83 You're right, it could have been one of the best 3 year old rivalries in decades. A healthy Barbaro would have given Bernardini a hell of a challenge, or maybe vice versa, in the Preakness. They also would have had the chance to meet up in the Jim Dandy, Travers, and the Breeders Cup Classic for an epic three way showdown with Invasor. Ah Barbaro, what could have been. In my opinion, the biggest what if ever in horse racing.

  • @decroo21, Bernardini turned out to be one of the best conventional dirt colt's in America that I've seen for many years, and has also become about the best and most sought after young sire in the business, too. That said, what Barbaro accomplished in his career spanning a very short amount of time is equally impressive. It would've been tough handicapping out a race with both Barbaro and Bernardini in the field. Like splitting hairs!!

  • i wish Barbaro was still here he would have made some strong, fast, and beautiful babies:) too bad we never got to see him race again!!! he will always have my heart. no horse could beat him he performed so amazing!!! i love him always:)

  • @newmarriedchic69 do u not see that this horse despite its speed and agility had problems that were probs genetic!!! caused by inbreeding, no matter how good he is unless u want his weaknesses as well as his abilities then he and others like him should never be bred!

  • @sorcha24 umm he was wasnt weak!!! i was saying that i wish he was still here and healthy and not broken!!! cause he wouldve made some amzing babies!! and he had amazing speed!!!! i wasnt saying anything mean about him!!!

  • Most talented horse I've EVER seen in MY life :).. I still miss him. -3

  • i was rooting for sinister minister that day, but barbaro outclassed them all

  • Love u Barbaro!!

  • It stinks that the kids had to see him break down in the Preakness.

  • If he would of raced in the preakness and didn't get hurt It would of been pretty close between Bernadini and barbaro. I don't really know who would win, I just now noticed how talented Bernadini was after watching all of his races

  • I miss you Barbaro. <3 You are AWESOME.

  • Miss u barbaro everytime i watch tears comes out of no where !!!

  • Was a great mix of two legendary horses was undefeated like Seattle Slew but had the power of Secretariat without a doubt would have been the 12th winner of the Triple Crown.

  • @CentralTXJock he probably would have won, but Bernardini would have made him earn it in the Preakness

  • Superstar!!!

  • Barbaro is back where he came from ... of the gods!

  • Watching these videos reminds me of my ex g/f who I was with for 3 1/2 years. I was terrified of horses when I met her, now I love them. Bittersweet memories.

  • What a horse probably one of the greatest of all time. I dont think ive ever seen such a turn of foot out of a thoroughbred coming into the lane. SUPERSTAR!!!

  • 5:00 Barbaro: GIVE ME A KISSSS!!! LOL love u barbaro :]

  • What a beaut LOVE U BARBARO ULL ALWAYS BE IN OUR HEARTS :]

  • Barbaro was a champ, nothing could stand in his way, nothing could bring him down but the accident,he ran undeafeated, barbaros jockey was in shock when he had to pull him up out of the group at the preakness and was upset and he went to see him while he was in recovery, when he ran he flew ~~~~R.I.P~~~~

  • My theory is that his chest hit the gate forcing it open.

BUT...and his rear leg hit his front leg causing a hairline fracture in the rear leg.

    Just my thought.

  • I would rather see a beautiful animal like that running in a field...

...rather than basicly running itself to death to please us scumbag humans for money. If they loved animals as they say donate some of that doe to shelters to save them. (from other humans)

The barbaro documentary was just a SLICK GLOSSY HEARTFELT P.R. MOVE TO SAVE FACE.

  • @DALEPOWELL7726218066 Look! Another AR nutjob! Do you even realize how much money the Jackson's have raised and donated for laminitis research?!? No, you wouldn't be bothered to actually look that up. Such a loser.

  • @DALEPOWELL7726218066 You may be right. They are beautiful, amazing animals. But the tragedies that happen when they 'break down' is horrifying. I'd NEVER want to cause such a dreadful thing for a racehorse - or any animal! Something seems wrong....tragic.

  • too bad the owners basically ran the horse to death. had to be killed before he was 3 years old. what a great loss of a fantastic beautiful animal.

"animal lovers" haaaaaaaaaa race horse owners are *NOT* animal lovers.

it's all about the almighty dollar ...not the animal.

  • You give Afleet Alex a run like that in this race and 2005 would have been a year we would have had a TC winner.

  • i red about barbaro....that horse is very fast

  • sin duda un gran caballo y un gran jinete como prado !!!

  • what he could have been.......

  • This was one of those amazing Derby victories that come along once in a generation.

  • fourever in our heart barbaro love____<3

  • yes barbaro would have been a triple crown no doubt about it

  • No easy trip on the rail, a stumble at the gate, this was a true performance of talent, not "luck" he was the Triple Crown we never got to see, I know this in my heart.....I have not enjoyed a Kentucky Derby since....

  • Wooooow. What this horse could have been, its so unfortunate what happened. Emensly talented on dirt, and turf, as a Dyno he most likely would have only gotten better with age. This is the most impressive KD performance in quite a while. Hopefully your youngest brother can fill your shoes, he looks big, and talented to me.

  • GO BABARO!!!!!!!!

  • Wish i could have been here, and at every other race he every ran and won!! Love ya big boy!

  • He is now racing somewhere far better,

    RIP

    Barbaro

  • Man...why did Barbaro die? I bet everything that he was going to be the TC winner in 2006. At the Derby, he was STILL pulling away when he crossed the finish line and the field he was up against wasn't a weak field either. He went in 6-0 I believe. He was the modern-day Secretariat.

  • @drumma4lyfe06 he certainly had great HEART & SPEED & TALENT & BEAUTY, PRESENCE! He seemed to be the next Secretariat; Thrilling! But Sec's build withstood the physical demands. Beautiful Barbaro raced with everything he had, he was such a heroic competitor! But Barbaro's sport broke him, it's a bad situation. It makes me question why such tragedies happen. maybe something should be done....to try & prevent this.

  • @nin12dog Completely agree. I dont think we will ever see another Sec. He was just a phenom but I could certainly see some of him in Barbaro. I certainly wish I could've watched him more. He was undefeated going into the Preakness. I don't know if he could pull off the TC due to his size but his fight and drive was unmatched.

  • Just a race of Beauty!, still brings a tear to my eye.

  • Would have been a deserving TC winner as any.

  • i was at that race and have met many Kentucky Derby winners due to family in the buisness but i never got to meet the legend, Barbaro

  • This should have been our TC winner. In the stretch he just looks like a machine.

  • @FireGirlG Secretariat hasn't been replicated; Sec may not happen again. It makes me realize how STRONG Sec must have been, to have stormed through all the 73 Trp Crown races healthy & sound!

  • We love you Barbaro!!

  • It's Derby Day, and had to come see one of the Great ones once again. Mr B...

  • Secretariat ran the only sub 2 minute Derby ever!!! But my next fav horse in the land was Barbaro!!! He head greatness writenn al over him. You passed on as a champ my friend!!!!!

  • Barbaro is super :)

  • i still can't watch this race without crying. i loved him derby day and had him to win. i have no doubt he would have won the triple crown had he not broken down two weeks later. so brave and so so sad. rip barbaro.......

  • that was a devastating move on the turn, wow Barbaro would have been a Superhorse, so sad

  • R.I.P Barbaro you beautiful horse....x

  • RIP BARBARO..i just watched the HBO DOCumentary..i cry when ever i watch it ....cuz its a touching story and like his owner said it best....first it was there horse then it was everyones horse when he got hurt....so so sad...he would of won...the triple crown with out a doubt....i just wish he could of lived a good life after the injury ....

  • R.I.P...Barbaro:(

  • Uh are so many horses in the Kentucky Derby?

  • Barbaro was one of the best race horses of the world, no doubt about it.

Its a disapointment that he died... he had won the peakness if he wasn't get injured.

  • R.I.P. BARBARO!!!! Forvever in my heart! I will Always Remember and Honor Your Greatness. You inspired me and gave me the will to fight cancer, pain and LIVE!!! Thankyou! I'll see you in Heaven when I loose my fight.

  • Thank you for posting this video. Barbaro was such an amazing horse. Even after he broke his leg, he continued to help us learn more about Laminites. Barbaro was so Brave. RIP Beloved Barbaro.

  • He may have, Barbaro had something more that SJ didn't have. Hard to explain.

  • @21Sarabi Barbaro had The Secretariat Factor: GREAT LOOKS - Barbaro was a Beautiful, Charismatic horse - he had Star Power, like Sec. He won the KD Dominantly (like Sec). That's why he reminds people of Sec. But was gifted with the RAW PHYSICAL STRENGTH needed to go the distance. Sec was a Beast.

  • to hear the roar of the crowd, that was the loudest K.D. i had ever seen

  • I'm not sure Barbaro would've won the Triple Crown. I mean, Smarty Jones was undefeated and won the Kentucky Derby, but lost the Belmont. Who's to say the same wouldn't have happened to Barbaro?

  • the only horse that had a chance to beat him was Bernardini.

Barbaro's greatness was his heart. He had long strides and covered a lot of ground with ease;but it was Barbaro's love of running and winning that propelled him!

We will never know how great this horse was.

  • hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

you do know he only won five races in his life, right? i mean, he did win them, but here's my point-even when given the chance, barbaro didn't even touch secretariat's kentucky derby record, so who's to say he COULDN'T beat barbaro?

  • did you watch his Florida derby when Showing Up was running his heart out?

Barbaro went into another gear to beat him.

Barbaro had another gear! He only used it when he had to. He was just cruising in his derby win! No need to argue Secretariat ---was the best! No horse will beat his Belmont!

  • There's NO doubt Barbaro was an excellent horse, I'm not trying to make him look bad. Thanks for agreeing with me unlike some who want to be meanos lol

  • showing up didnt run in fla derby babe he ran in the lexington it was sharp humor who he beat in fla derby

  • he didnt???he won by biggest margin in 60 years and ran the last quarter faster than srcretariet u fckn idiot

  • @bigfred3217 Margin? You dare bring up MARGIN? Secretariat won the Belmont by 31 fucking lengths. Also, dumbshit, even when given the chance, BARBARO DID NOT BEAT SECRETARIAT'S STILL-STANDING KENTUCKY DERBY SPEED RECORD. DO NOT piss me off, you stupid fucking bitch.

  • @bigfred3217 btw...I'm not a fucking idiot. I lived in Kentucky for 11 years, so I think I know what I'm talking about. Also, your spelling and grammer sucks, which hints you are totally stupid and have no idea what the hell you're talking about. My Advice: SHUT THE FUCK UP:]]

  • sorry Backstretch - Big Fred is right - he ran the fastest quarter pole since Secretariet and do we really need the vulgarity?

  • Big Fred is most certainly wrong. It doesn't matter if he ran the LAST pole faster. Secretariat still ran all the OTHER poles faster, so he'd still win. Also, speed record is a major factor. Barbaro's win was only 2:01.36, whereas Secretariat's was 1:59.40, which is a still standing record. Overall, if Barbaro and Secretariat were in the Kentucky Derby together, Secretariat would win hands down.

  • @BackstretchUnderdog Secretariat was a MACHINE + HORSE-GOD. I'm grateful I was able to watch him on TV. Sec's not been replicated; we may not see a horse like Secretariat again. I LOVE & respect Beautiful Barbaro - he was ALL HEART! I thought I saw the ghost of Secretariat in Barbaro's KD. BOTH horses are exceptional & much-loved! But sweet Beautiful Barbaro wasn't given the Body of Steel that Sec had - Sec was a 'track-eating monster' - a physical BEAST! Overall, no horse has yet beaten Sec.

  • @69jwolf hmm. I thought you said ran the last pole FASTER than secretariat. my bad :P

  • Comment removed

  • @barbaro52 Barbaro was ALL HEART! He had the Secretariat magic/charisma. maybe he was pushed TOO HARD, TOO YOUNG? But his BODY broke down - not his HEART or Character. So we have to conclude that - at 3 years - Barbaro wasn't a Trip Crown candidate. Perhaps if he had been given time to MATURE, he would have flourished as a mature racer. Secretariat had it ALL, at perfect timing. Sec remains the King. Barbaro was Noble: it is awful (perhaps irresponsible?) that he was tragically injured.

  • what beautiful champion he was

    RIP *BARBARO*

  • Watch at 2:03. As soon as he makes the lead, his ears go straight up. He was interested in what he was doing, he was loving it & he had more. It's bittersweet to hear Durkin's call, "he has saved something left for the Preakness" knowing what happened in two weeks. Don't think I will ever get over the ache of what happened & what could have been. But he was meant to be more than 'just' a racehorse-so many people are aware & so many horses helped BECAUSE of him. RIP Bobby. Miss you forever.

  • Yesterday, Oct. 4, four years ago Barbaro took his first race in Delaware by a very wide margin.

    RIP Champ... miss you forever.

  • no matter how many times i watch this race it still gives me chills to hear the announcer and watch barbaro pull away from the field....R>I>P you will always be in my heart...No horse will ever match up to you.

  • Barbarowned :P

  • I TRULY THOUGHT THIS WAS THE BEST OPPT FOR A TRIP CROWN WINNER BASED ON NOT ONLY THE DERBY BUT BECUZ OF HOW HE WON ALL HIS RACES PRIOR TO THE DERB. it's so sad... what on earth happened at the preakness? does anyone CLOSE to the barbaro family or someone w/some inside info know what caused him to get so damn jittery in the gates in baltimore?

  • there was someone behind the gate that did not work there and scared him. he had a horse running against him in that race

  • I don't think I'll ever get over the aching feeling for this horse, and Durkin's call as he first says "and HERE comes Barbaro"... and "Barbaro turns it on.." and it's ALL Barbaro.... in a SUBLIME performance !!"

  • me niether. i still get chills watching him win this race

  • he ran an amazing race, then lost it all :[

RIP Barbaro! 4ever in our hearts!

  • ~And here comes Barbaro! The undefeated Barbaro! Comes up on the outside and he takes the lead as the field turns for home in the Kentucky Derby Barbaro turns it on!~

    ~*~*Ripley*~*~

  • 1:59 magic happens...Just goes to show you dont have to be human to have heart. RiP Barbaro :(

  • "and here comes Barbaro the undefeated Barbaro comes up on the outside and he takes the lead" - a classic - I get goose bumbs hearing that

  • stunning.

  • Breaks my heart :(

  • He was good, but I'm not sure if he would have beaten Jazil in the belmont.

  • barbaro was simply amazing!

  • Barbaro was an amazing horse, and i cried after the preakness. But actually, he probably would have not won the preakness, because right before his injury, he was stuck in traffic and way behind. and bernardini flew at the end, so i think he would have lost by about 4 lengths. However, he would have won the Belmont and BC classic. He was a magnificient horse, RIP.

  • Comment removed

  • Barbaro died undefeated...No horse in no race had ever beaten him

    ~*~*Ripley*~*~

  • @BrennanandBoothlove Well he was injured in that last race so technically he lost didn't he? Or does it not count because he pulled up and didn't actually cross the finish line?

  • never lost...in what, 4 races?

I'n not dogging the horse I would rather see a beautiful animal like that running in a field. rather than basicly running itself to death to please us scumbag humans and for money.

the documentary was just a SLICK GLOSSY HEARTFELT P.R. MOVE TO SAVE FACE.

  • @BrennanandBoothlove I think we all still miss him....

  • @BrennanandBoothlove I think we all still miss him.... he was never truly defeated.

  • I never saw Barbaro or Ruffian race. =O >.<

  • I always thought he would take the triple crown. I've not felt that way before about any contender in tha last 20+ years. He had a special magic. No doubt, one of the best Derby runs ever. Like many, my heart broke in the Preakness, you knew it was bad. I thank the Jackson's for giving him a shot at life. Most seeing that xray would have put him down immediately. They owned him but we all loved him and always will. A true champion, on and off the track.

  • He was so beautiful as he turned down the final turn onto the homestretch.

  • i miss he so much!

  • Stunning animal!!!

  • definitely next trip crwn wnnr

  • how can he be? That was years ago and now he's dead

  • "WOULD HAVE BEEN" i was responding to 94blackjack

  • i get goosebumps everytime i see him run...theres no doubt in my mind that he would have been the next triple crown winner...i miss him =[=[

  • I agree...If he didn't get hurt he would have been without a doubt the Triple Crown winner....

    ~*~*Ripley*~*~

  • But, how do you just know he would? A lot of people "knew" Smarty Jones would win the Triple Crown, but look what happened :P I'm not saying he wouldn't, I'm just saying the Triple Crown is really hard for horses to win.

  • well somebody has to win.

  • @BrennanandBoothlove I mean, "without a doubt" is pretty strong language....still such a beautiful horse though...

  • Love to see Barbaro strut after that race. You know he knows he did very well. What a great horse. Breaks my heart to think about him.

  • we all miss you Barbaro

    <3 <3 <3

  • What a beautiful horse... extremely talented. RIP Big Man

  • We miss you boy......Every year around the Derby, I go back to watch one of the best Derby runs ever. Forever in our hearts .We love you Barbaro...Run free :(

    ~*~*Ripley*~*~

  • Love you dearly beautiful boy.

  • I will NEVER get tired of watching this video. What a champion.

  • I really believe this horse could of swept the triple crown. He was something special. Beautiful horse, I'll never forget him. :)

  • He was the next triple crown winner. I miss this horse.

  • He was having the time of his life, that's what was so sad. He loved his job.

  • He may not have won the triple crown, but he won my heart and many others...

    r.i.p. big boy

  • I honestly believe that Barbaro could have taken the Crown. In my heart, he did.

    RIP, Barbaro.

  • I had him at 250 to 1 future book

    after the laurel futurity.

    I be ever grateful.

    FUTBOOK

  • And here comes Barbaro...........

  • Once in a lifetime something this Special happens ...we got a cchance to see that once so savor it one and all

  • ANY GUYS UP?

ANYONE UP? I NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO nS

  • I agree with Gary Stevens when he says there is no feeling like the one Edgar had when Barbaro put the world on notice that he was one helluva racehorse. They know when their special, and indeed he was. I won money on him that day,but that was not what I took from that day. What I saw was a horse, who if he had the chance would prove to be one of the very best. That horse won that race with extreme ease. Remember that was a good crop of 3 yr olds in there with him,and he just walked off with ease.
