Thank you! We sang this at Berea Mennonite Church in Atlanta Georgia, USA where I was baptized by pouring in 1968. This Easter, Sunday, 2010, at a baptism with Grace Midtown Church (non-denominational) in Atlanta, the pastor asked if anyone wanted to lead a hymn when a Presbyterian (they sprinkle) girl was baptized by immersion. I could remember only the first verse, so I wanted to refresh my memory and be ready next time. One faith. One baptism. Many traditions. John 17 indeed!
Beautiful song. I believe I heard that the melody is an old East Indian one and that the Christian lyrics were set to it by a missionary. Does anyone know if this is a true story or know anything about its story? Beautiful, just carries you away...
sorry folks for replying late-this was located at First Covenant Church in downtown Minneapolis-Minnesota. This was a monthly event back in 1999-2000 at this location and then it was moved all over the Twin Cities-Minnesota each and/or every other month to unite churches from different backgrounds (racial, denomination, economic status, etc...)-John 17!!
