  • Poor Hattori. I like him. I would have liked to have seen him as an Iron Chef, but yeah, Michiba won & deserved to win. I respect him for shooting for the top, but I think he tripped himself up once he started imagining himself w/ his own portrait holding an apple. Hattori stayed classy through, continuing to comment for the show for the rest of it's run. I've never cared who won in Iron Chef. It's always been about challengers like Hattori going for gold & both sides showing good sportsmanship.

  • Whatever possessed Hattori to try that sake disaster I can't fathom (it's the one thing even Ichinabe, who was giving anything Fukui came up with the thumbs up for matching with truffles, was surprised about), though I suppose I can understand his wanting to test his mettle against the best of the Iron Chefs.

He did his best, but I think being too ambitious with both that and the pie (about which Robuchon eyed him wryly) did him in.

With Michiba, Robuchon was complimenting a fellow master.

  • Hattori-san carried himself with great honor on the battlefield of Kitchen Stadium, even in defeat. He truly laid himself on the line. His dishes were clever and the meal in total was well constructed with the primary taster Robuchon in mind. But Kitchen Stadium is a fickle mistress and teaching is not the same as competing. It showed here though I was glad to see him try.. The room got a little dusty when Fukui-san said "I'm proud to call both of these men my friends"

  • Iron chef Interational perhaps if yukio had won?

  • According to iron chef wiki, this sake was one of the 3 worst "dishes"....

  • At first I felt bad for Hattori and I realized, I don't know this man. Yet, I feel as if I know them all by now. And then I realized, I wish I did. I wish I was part of this world and these people. I also need to work harder.

  • I bet Machiba was tempted to lose on purpose, just to see what Hatori can do as an Iron Chef

  • Kind of a bittersweet thing to watch poor Doc get roflstomped by Michiba. But like many of you said, I'm not really sure why Hatori even challenge Michiba in the first place.

  • @Obdushaer I think it's because he really wanted to show that he can be the best Iron Chef and was confident he could beat Michiba, who is the best of the trio. Gotta give him credit for trying.

  • That French chef acts so pompous at times, but he like Michiba dishes he's not too bad.

  • damn that sucks.

  • poor Hattori-san :( I just wanna hug him.

  • hahaha, michiba wasn't even paying attention sometimes. lol

  • Michiba is awesome. I miss Iron Chef quite a lot. Luckily, it's shown on the Cooking channel. Iron Chef America does a disgrace to the name of the original.

  • that sake was noted the worst dishes.. hahahah xD poor hatori

  • He didn't say "he was really moved today", he just said that he tasted an interesting combination, truffle (a french ingredient) and japanese cuisine.

  • Show the score!

  • wow this challenger came overconfident! lol. his backround is french and still lost with a french ingredient.

  • GG ,

    >:D

  • No scorecards? Musta been ugly...

  • @YMuradian I don't think they showed the scorecards until they increased the judging panel to four and introduced OT. That came a little later on.

  • The challenger was supposed to be a frenchman, but he run away from battle.

So Dr,Hattori was forced to take place of him.

  • Chairman Kaga named Hattori's dreadful truffle sake as one of the 3 worst dishes ever on the show.

  • Robuchon is the man

  • It doesn't matter of whom wins at the end of this program, it really shows alot of excellent sportsman ship.

This I should know, I've competed in many of Special Olympic events but for now, I only compete in winter skiing events.

Thank you so much archo89 for posting these great episodes, I really just love these guys alot!!!!! Anita (ajaugenti)

  • robuchon seems to have a greate tase buds.

    what is rosanjin??? anybody know?

  • Rosanjin is the Chairman's Mentor supposedly. The scholar was his apprentice, so to speak.

  • i like when he say hattori hope maybe dash lol

  • i think joel, being french, was not the perfect judge for this match. My experiences have let me note that french tastes on cuisine tend to be very traditional

  • @allerdyce I disagree. He was appreciative of Michiba's unique Japanese-leaning dishes, while the more orthodox French dishes from Hattori (excusing that sake blunder) got only sparing praise if any comment at all.

  • hooo shit hattori.....sorta made an ass of himself...but then again he had the balls to even try....he gets a pat on the back...and maybe a knuckle rub to the head...silly fella you tryna be a iron chef!!! hahaha

  • I like when Joel gives hattori that look at 2:45. hattori's reaction was like oh shit.

  • haha i saw that too

  • Did Robuchon actually said "le crap"?

  • I don't think any challenger has gotten owned as bad as him... x_X

  • Could've been worse...I heard one battle involving Nakamura was so bad on both sides, neither man was declared the winner, and both were forced to fight a full, 1-hour rematch.

  • I was surprised they were able to get Robuchon as a guest judge. Well, Hattori is a fool that embarrassed himself badly in front of Robuchon. At the beginning he mentioned many Japanese didn't understand truffle. His food showed he did not, either. This battle shows he's someone who can ONLY talk the talk; Robuchon, meanwhile, was very gracious for a man of his stature.

  • ok then you go and walk the walk and let us see how much you understand about truffles =)

  • "This tastes...uh...very...unusual"

    (translation: le crap)

  • Kaga: "You mean you like it?"

    *Akward Pause*

  • Nice. Mixing a little french back into the re-translation.

Poor Hattori. Michiba is such a power-house of cooking.

  • Hippo bleu est invivible, personne peut le voir. Partir furtivement comme un ninja japonais. Vous etes tous ouverure d'anus de 100% Oui Monsieur!

Y'know, for a guy who shares a name with a legendary ninja, i'm surprised Hattori is so big in cooking.

  • Hattori came back as a challenger the 2nd time in Komei Nakamura retirement

    and Hattori lost both battles

  • Robuchon's look at 2:33--priceless.

  • 2:44, rather.

  • lol Michiba wooped Hattori's ass

  • I wonder if Hattori would've had better luck if he hadn't been so ambitious and if he had challenged Chen rather than Michiba. As they said, he was the top Iron Chef in his time. He would've almost certainly lost to Sakai, too, since he's the French Iron Chef.

  • Michiba never seemed to be in even a slight hurry, but his six dishes looked awesome. Not like that time he made a crab pizza omelette!

  • Michiba's the man!

  • *lol* i love Yukio, but dammit, he should've kept his ass in the commentator's box. why the heck would he pick the most 'powerful' Iron Chef to go up against? *lol* i LOVE this show! thanks for another good one Archo89.

  • i'd be so intimidated if joel was eating my food.

  • omg, Joel Robushon!

  • Robuchon, Ramsay, Ducasse and Boulud are GODS of French cooking-Long live all of you!

  • I think deep down Hattori knew he's not gonna win. He probably just wanted the 1st hand experience down there duking it out. Plus what type of iron chef will he be? He's doesn't really cook Italian or Indian or Persian... maybe he be fusion? Iron Chef Fusion! ahh doesn't sound right. =(

    He's still cool!

  • i was looking for this episod!!n finally i found it!hahaha!..thx dude!Hattori dare himself to fight with the best iron chef!!.wow!!.ths was awesome!but i felled a little pitty to Hattori for lossing, as we can see tht he has a HUGE! desire to became an iron chef!

  • I can't help but wonder if the producers hatched a plan in case a challenger ever fell through without time to find a replacement. What would you do? Have Hattori fill in as challenger, giving him a story about wanting to be an Iron Chef himself.

  • Of course, you don't really want to change the structure of the show, so he can't really win. No, Hattori challenges Michiba, but works slowly, making mistakes so he can be sure to let Michiba beat him. The pressure's off Michiba, who works elegantly but doesn't stress himself. Fukui and Ohta do their best to make all it sound exciting, but everybody secretly knows what the outcome will be, so it comes off a little hollow.

  • I really hope that's not how it works

  • It's obvious Michiba's dishes are superior to Hattori's. Even retards can tell that. If you have any doubt, go back to the "God" of French cuisine Joël Robuchon's comments.

  • i wish that sakai had been in this battle instead. he would have done the ingredient just. michiba did well. hattori shouldn't quit his day job( this is an understatement)

  • i agree, i wonder what sakai would have created...the best of the best with truffles for sure. thanks archo89 :)

  • I wasn't surprize that Hattori lost, but he gave his best. Good job Michiba! Thanks for the upload Archo.

  • superb archo, as per usual. it's hard to imagine all those dishes that highlight truffles, seems like you'd get sick of them. i hope i get to taste some one of these days...

  • The same can be said about any battle, though, as the rule of Iron Chef show is to use the main ingredient in any dish and one cannot hide its flavor to just clear the rule. In a way, it shows the skill of the ICs whose dishes are tasted after the challengers'.

    As usual, thanks archo89.

  • I. Love. Truffles!

  • Well that wasn't a surprise...

  • I can't imagine what truffles taste like but with sake? Sounds disgusting.

  • I think the addition of fish milt might have really threw it off...
