I am from Bangladesh, a small country of Asia. Had been a drummer for 8 years (I'm 23). Started to learn guitar recently and believe me, you are the best,if not among the best's guitar teacher I have ever experienced. Cheers to you!!
Man, you are truly an amazing teacher and artiste. When the word "professional" comes in, meaning excelling at a craft and making a living out of it, in the field of music you are the name to come to mind. Keep on the excellent work you do.
All the best,
Alessandro
PS.: I sent you a question this last May; did you have some time to take a look at it? :-)
I've been playing the guitar for 6 years, and I'm still at that 3 month mark (if that makes sense), and now I realize its because of my lack of routine, and also what Andrew said at the end, falling into that rut of playing what you already know over and over, instead of expanding.
Really helpful video Andy! Been following you for a long time. Nice to see you put in some more beginner/intermediate stuff as not everyone out here is an advanced player. I am sure you will get more hits very soon. Thanks a lot!
Andrew- you're a great teacher... Im just wondering if you have any very advanced music theory lessons? I have studied George Russell and I cant find any videos that are at a highly advanced level of discussion
@creativeguitarstudio I guess that you could have more views if you taught some famous songs. I know the copyright thing, but there are so many on the net that I don't believe that it will be a problem. Don't you think it's a good idea? Cheers!
Hey Andrew, I always talk very highly of you and your videos. I like how open ended this is, I have been looking for somthing like this for awhile, but I mainly very between procussive fingerstyle, folk, jazz, and classical. Unfortunatly I have never had a set teacher all of my learning in the last 3 years since I've started. This has kind of left me focusing alot on some skills like arpegios, movable chords, and music theory, but really slacking in some areas I hope this will help.
After I downloaded the file it showed me the black dots and it seems that they are in the correct position, but the numbers under the diagrams are different to where the dots are on the fingerboard. (In the browser it didn't show the dots). It's actually the same in your video @4:50 onwards. The dots are there in the right positions but the numers under the diagarms are incorrect.
@Kaijisss Hey there friend, just to let you know.....His PDF's are correct. The numbers located under the diagrams are for the corresponding fingers on your fret hand. 1 being the index finger, 2 is your middle finger, 3=ring finger, and 4=pinky. They help you maintain correct hand positioning while chording. They aren't fret numbers. Hope this helps. A lot of beginners make that very common mistake. Keep practicing. Andrew is an amazing instructor.
@SixStringHarmonies Oh..... Well wouldn't call myself a beginner but I've never seen the fingering displayed under the diagram. Every diagram I've seen has had the fingering on the dots and/or the fret numbers under the diagram. Just wanted to check out the dominant 7th chords from the pdf, but it turns out I knew them all already but just by the name "7(th) chord".
Been following Andrew for a long, long time, and he's like the 2000's version of the late-great Howard Roberts... but AMAZINGLY enough, for the inter-net crowd. Basically, I think he's the best guitar teacher on-line for this day & age hands down! Guitar World magazine should really do a profile on him. Andrew's got the credentials, the chops and the insight like none other!
Andrew is like the little guy on my shoulder who every time I walk past the guitar says "Pick it up and run through the Minor and Kumoi scales in every key and call out the notes and intervals while you do it....and then you can watch TV dammit!" His passion and knowledge are inspiring.
Hey man, I went and checked out that PDF you're on about here and it must be your PDF Reader because it works 100% on my computer... My old computer was a Mac, and I had your exact same problem time & time again with, "Mac's Preview" software. It really sucks... Not sure if you're on a Mac (or not), but if you are, get a program called, "SKIM." It is way better for reading PDF's on a Mac. If you're on Windows, go grab the newest release of, "Adobe Reader."
@jippie11261 Not using a mac. (hate'em) But somehow the dots didn't show on the diagrams online. It showed the dots after I downloaded the file. The number thing was figured out below.
Hey Andrew, I checked out the pdf about the chords on your website and for some reason the chord diagrams do not have the black dots on them. Also I'd like to point out that under the G major chord diagram the numbers are 320004 instead of 320003. Just wanted to let you know this!
This topic is not talked about nearly enough. There's a huge amount of information on the web about guitar, but a surprisingly small part of it is dedicated to the actual practicing method.
I think this is probably the single most important idea in the cultivation of musicianship.
Awesome lesson! I sent a similarly themed question to you a year ago. Thank you for all your lessons, and I have really enjoyed the .pdf files I bought from you.
Another great lesson, Andy! I really don't understand why this doesn't have more views, since you are one of the few teachers on YouTube who actually teach properly.
Thank you, I hope this channel grows too. There's so much confusing information out there about guitar, it's staggering... Please consider helping me spread this channel by embedding into your blogs and post links on your favorite discussion boards. Any support can go a long way, I hope the internet will help me get more people good lessons & good guitar playing information in general. I started this in 1992 and have so much to share of those years and about G.I.T. as well.
