A magazine is a body that houses the rounds, which contains a spring which feeds rounds into the firearm as needed. An M1 Garand uses a clip. A Thompson uses a magazine. By using google images and searching "difference between magazine and clip" you will see a few pictures showing the difference.

$120 guns do exist, but you're going to have to get out and look hard, they are few and far between. and most guns that go for that cheap don't work.

a good cheap starter gun is the s&w sigma it's nothing special, but it'll go for around $300 brand new.

When I was 12, my dad started me on a Ruger MK. II Target pistol. That did pretty well. For females or junior shooters, I'd suggest the Walther P22 or the Ruger MK. III.

As for older beginners, a Walther, Glock, or HK in 9mm Para would do fine.
