  • I can't wait to go to Dollywood...just sayinn'.(:

  • They invented autotune so the rest of the world could sound half as good as allison

  • this is definition of "purity"......god was in good spirit when he made this lady...

  • I, from here, feel the high ethical standards Alison Krauss, this respectable lady, has.

  • Dolly has a beautiful soul. She's beaming watching these ladies sing her song.

  • Sweet never hear AK do this song, she did it great. that was Dolly I saw smiling in the audience at her wasn't it?

  • Alison is so talented. Thank you for posting this. In the late Seventies I grew up enjoying the popular version by Olivia Newton-John. Later I learned about Dolly's personal angle, if I recall, behind its composition. Lovely tune, and a gr8 cover by a great lady. Best regards.

  • I fail to understand the dislikes here. Not the music you'd spend money on? Move on and don't vote.

  • I slugged a guy today who said Alison Krauss was an "annoying bitch". Can't stand when people act so snobbish towards country and bluegrass. There's so much in music like this that people are too afraid to love. Real emotion embodies this stuff.

  • While Loretta Lynn is considered the first lady of country music, it was Dolly Parton who is responsible for taking country music into the mainstream.

  • Like this by Dolly but I Love Alison Krauss. Would love to see them together.

  • dolly just seems like the sweetest woman (:

  • Dolly doesn't get enough props for being a great composer, she places in top ten of Country Music song Writers.

  • @abergethirty Dolly's songs are her babies - her 1998 CD "Hungry Again" includes lyrics, and they are printed on a background of her original handwritten words, including word changes, etc. In her museum, the display of the "coat of many colors" she wore to school includes the words of that song, written on the back of a dry cleaning receipt.

  • @abergethirty Tak to Češi mají tři. Smetana, Dvořák a Janáček.

  • angelic voice you got allison

  • I don't frequently like to say a cover is as good as or better than the original. I don't want to say it's any better, but it is every bit as perfect. :)

  • purity, commitment, perfection in tone and delivery.....every person on the stage.Lets teach our kids how perfection is attained.....

  • She forgot a part at the very beginnning.

  • @TheLightPlumber There's a difference between "forgetting" and "planning with the intent of saving time".

  • I have always loved this song. Thanks for posting this rendition. Alison is impeccable as ever.

  • What a lovely version of this classic song.

  • love her

  • Oh my god. Who else totally loves the vibrato in Allison's voice?

  • @oOBlackButterflyOo I do she has a very beautiful voice. I have always loved Allison.

  • Allison has to be one of my favorite singers of all time.. ever since I heard Baby Mine.

  • I love this song. And most covers of it... but this one is up at the top of the list. Alison has such a great, wholesome, but sweet voice. Very beautiful. And who doesn't just love Dolly Parton?

  • Thumbs up if you saw this video because of glee

  • Love this song and really love Dolly. How anyone could post negative comments about her and her music is unimaginable to me. When you watch her interviews, she's so genuine, beautiful in every way. Alison, Susan and Cheryl did a fine rendition. At the end Alison looks like she's asking Dolly how it was...very sweet and respectful.

  • @carolm007 Thank you for your delightful comment, and thanks to "iknewb4udid", as well. It is such comments that encourage me to continue this activity. I agree about Dolly's and Alison's character. I don't know Alison or Dolly, although I have visited with Dolly's assistant. Once Rhonda Vincent had an extremely serious illness, and Dolly traveled from Nashville to Greentop, Missouri, and hand-delivered flowers and "get wells" to Rhonda. I do know Rhonda; she is awesome.

  • @SidsCardShop - That's a wonderful story about Dolly (hope Rhonda is well now). I'm not surprised though, I bet she's the nicest friend anyone could hope for. Keep up the good work...I look forward to seeing the vids you post!

  • @carolm007

Don t fret,,, the negative comments are all coming from US Congressmen...What do they know? NOTHING

  • @bkeay100 - If people would just open their minds and hearts to good, honest music they would be alot happier. You're right...they know nothing.

  • @carolm007 Great harmony, love it!

  • Dolly looked like she was about to bust listening to this rendition of her hit! Who wouldn't love Alison Krauss singing anything! Smokey looked like he was enjoying himself as well, sitting with Pres. and Mrs. Bush!!! Great song, GREAT Video!!! Thanks!

  • She sings it very nicely- not as well as Dolly, but still very good :)

  • better than dollys ha!

  • hhahahha im watching american dad and its the george bush episode and roger sings that song...1:37

  • wohooo,,what a voice..i like you alison

  • she banged it bad

  • Alison Krauss rocks! she did a wonderful job on this song.

  • You should never attempt to cover a song unless you can equal or top it. Allison equals it. I don't think anyone else could.

  • totally nails it!!!!!

  • somethin about that thumpin' country music bass line appeals to me so profoundly

  • Beautiful Cover! And you could tell Dolly enjoyed watching Alison do her hit song!

  • Simply beautiful!

  • wow

  • Just great! (I mean both Alison and the good filming job. Thanks so much).

  • When you see that smile on Dolly's face.... you know without a doubt that Alison nailed it.

  • This woman amazes me - she has the voice AND the looks of an angel. And so many of her songs have such a beautiful message.

  • @becksays I so agree she has got the best female voice,

  • Amazing!!!!

  • Hey Allison is a fan of the legend Dolly Parton..Yes Allison did good but never close to the world legend Dolly!!

  • allison has that haunting type of voice, it kinda complements it. i like it

  • she can sing that to me with crackers all over the damn bed

  • how proud would you feel if you where singing in front of the best

  • An Angel

  • Dolly should cut an updated "Trio" album.. this time with Allison Krauss and Shania Twain.

  • she makes it look so effortless!

  • Alison has a beautiful face, a beautiful voice, and a beautiful message........this is no accident :) Now, let's go down to the river to pray (that good old way)

  • It's pretty ballsy to sing Dolly Parton's signature song TO Dolly Parton. Alison can more than pull it off.

  • I just cant stop listing to it

  • F- in PERFECT! I thought Dolly nailed it. Reditions don't appeal to me, however, Allison got this.

  • Beautiful version of a beautiful song!

  • Amazing.

  • I love her so much. She's so cute, she never knows what to do with her hands when she doesn't have her fiddle!

  • alison krause is avery great singer and wonderful lady.

  • omg i think i love her :) she's amazing!

  • Easily one of the greatest female singers of all time. singer, song writer, lyricist, producer, winner of 26 Grammy Awards, so far. What an angelic voice.

  • I know that from the left, its Susan Cox, and then Alison, but who is the lady on the right (alison's left)?

  • @sirbleeds Cheryl White, Ricky Skaggs' sister-in-law.

  • @sirbleeds Mrs White of the Whites

  • She is sooo so so so wonderful. What a beautiful voice of an angel. And such a great song to cover. Wow. All around amazing.

  • omg... can you say goosebumps??? Allison is such a beauty!

  • love your voice and this song has long been a favorite of mine. I used to have a Dolly 8 track that I played to death. lol

  • Alison's voice always reminded me of Dolly's anyway. She done her proud.

  • nice rendation jejejeje

  • Not much of a country fan, but this is one of my favs. I don't know this lady but she did a good job. @1:37 Smokey Robinson was rockin a lil bit. @2:11 dude was jammin. He was feelin it. I am too.

  • props to the other 2 singers with alison. that trio slide at 1:59 takes my breath away!!! :D

  • this is amazing!!!

  • Fabulous tribute rendition here! Krauss all but nailed Parton's tone from the original studio recording on lead. I presume that this video was shot at the Kennedy Center Honors?

  • alison is better .. .better .. better

  • Without ever having seen this Jolene lady, as a man I can tell you that Alison Krause would have NOTHING to worry about. That lovely lady could have just about any worthy man that she cared to set her sights on.

  • I only wish Alison would record Amazing Grace so I would have it for my funeral because she sings like an Angel.

  • 8 Dislikes that makes no sense even if you hate country music how could you dislike her voice

  • amazing song i love't

  • W fell in love .

  • Beautiful voice, but completely different from Dolly. Both gorgeous voices in their own respects. I prefer Dolly -- the Legend -- but Allison is amazing in her own way as well.

  • @superjennifer7 You know what's funny? The first time I ever heard Alison, I thought, "Damn, that girl sounds like Dolly! What's up with that?"

  • i LOVE it

  • Jolene must of ran off with 8 men.

  • Beautiful voice, such talent.

  • Such a beautiful voice & person!

  • Oh my...she sounds VERY good!

  • okay, scrath out laura marlings version as second favorite.....alison just won the spot XD

  • beautiful!!! one of the greatest versions

  • Alison has really beautiful voice that's true, but well, Dolly is Dolly :-D

  • I love this cover. =) I Think Krauss did a great job. Dolly sure seemed to think so too.

  • I love Dolly's sunny smile throughout this song. She's lovely.

  • Alison is a being of pure light

  • Once again, a princess bows at the feet of the Goddess! Goddess Dolly was clearly pleased!

  • I just sang JOLENE...the MALE VERSION. I sang it TO Dolly Parton. She is MY Jolene! John Tyler - jtyler5

  • I loveeeee her voice

  • I want Alison in a studio version plssssssss

  • Alison does this song justice, just as Dolly did. A fitting tribute to Dolly that night by a young lady who has come a long way in sparking renewed interest in Bluegrass and Country Music, truly American musical art forms. Fantastic!

  • wow what an awesome version, thank you for posting this.

  • I DO like Allison doing it. Magnificent voice

    \

  • 世上怎会有这么醉人的嗓音!

  • such a smooth voice on alison, probably my favorite singer,

  • I don't understand why people need to point out what version they like best. Dolly wrote it. Allison sounds great. It's an amazing song. Period.

  • @alliesbeware Thx for pointing it out more specifically.

I agreed with you, Alison sings great.

So I’d have to say I like this version better xD

  • Allison Krauss is just as good or better with this song. I think Dolly approved of her way of singing it.

  • I love the shot of Laura Bush @1:41 - she's like, "How is that voice possible?" And Smokey's just grooving next to her.

  • She did a beautiful job with this song!

  • I think that Dolly Parton & Alison Krauss are the onlyones that can sing this song correctly. Great job!!!

  • Great lady Great voice But the big wig's In Nashville has stop any real country talent from getting air play .Thank's to You Tube and a lot true country music posting and playing the talent that has been turned a way by the Holly Wood want'a B's up in Nashville Texas is the place for true country music

  • They all get caught up in the need to look better, be skinnyer. If you look at Country female singers opposed to pop/rock singers, they are all dressed to the hilt. More makeup, more hair styles. Like with Dolly when she went to release her last album, she couldn't get a record deal, no one would back her, said she was too older, no one would buy it. So she created her own record label, kept all the money for herself. Stupid idiots. There loss. But that's how they treat Country Female artists.

  • Watching this on TV was the first time I heard this song :)

  • Allison Krauss And Dolly Parton Are Truly Amazing To Sing This So Well..... Love The Both Of Them........

  • THANK YOU JESUS CHRIST.

  • What face work? Make-up, hair style changes but no plastic surgery.

Look at various photographs and performances-she has different "looks" but

the same facial structure. My spouse is a plastic surgeon and concurs.

  • @TheDAllev Amen! My word - she only turned 40 yesterday!!!!

  • @SidsCardShop Lies! She does not look 40 lol. But yes, this song is amazing, no matter who sings it.

  • @SidsCardShop I'm 25 and would marry that woman (and know her being rich and famous has nothing to do with it)

  • @TheDAllev damn she looks like shes 20 or something

  • @TheDAllev I think shes lost weight over the years as her popularity increased also.

  • @TheDAllev She's definitely had work done. Check out the video "Bluegrass All Stars, Bury Me Beneath the Willow".

  • @VenousTadpole I have to agree with you, it does look like she's had a nose job. But I have to say, what star hasn't?

  • @VenousTadpole Hmmmm...could be.....

  • @VenousTadpole No she just lost a tremendous amount of weight..

  • @sirbleeds She's very talented and I could care less honestly.

  • @TheDAllev who gives a flying fuck all you fashion retards - she is an awesome singer / person and if your looking for plastic look no further than plastic Parton...otherwise just listen to her and SHUT UP !

  • Alison this is your best look. Smokin' hot! i'm in love.

ps. no more face-work please! you're starting to look a little scary since this performance.

  • Love:)

  • absolutely great. thanks for posting.

  • this is a kennedy center honors for dolly parton years ago

  • Alison Krauss made me see and hear how wrong I was in having prejudices against this entire genre. And because of performances like these one I have been inspired to listen to more and more of this beautiful, soulful, and powerful music. Thank you so very much for uploading it for all us. I really cannot thank you enough.

  • thats Awesome Dolly Parton was in the crowd thats awesome even though was dolly Parton song still one my favorites by them and by the white stripes

  • Simply beautiful!

  • Vici from The Voice did a good job too

  • Olivia Newton John and Mindy Smith also did wonderful versions.

  • alison krauss has one of the most beautiful voices

  • @angkahmahn I wish I could thumbs up your comment a million times!

  • @angkahmahn

Yes! And she is one of the beautifulest women!

  • Love this song. :]

The guitarist at @1:50 cracked me up though! He's really feeling it. "Yeah!!"

  • she´s killing dolly. imagine to sit there and listen to that angels voise. hehe

  • Hmm; didn't think that anyone could do this song justice other than Dolly but I guess I was wrong. Love it!

  • Alison Krauss has the best wardrobe! seriously, i want to shop with her!

  • Smokey Robinson is jammin'...Dubya looks bored.

  • I love Dolly Parton but I also love Allison Krauss. Have all of both of their albums. Dolly Parton is the only "superstar" I would ever love to sit down and spend some time with. There is a good version of Jolene by an artist that was on a small label Dolly was on. Mindy Smith does a more modern but worthy version of this that could be played on any type of radio station. It is a very good effort also.

  • This was the Kennedy Center Honors show which payed Tribute to Dolly Parton's lifetime accomplishiments.

  • Ahhh. There it is!!

  • i love alison krauss.but really the guy in the background playing guitar is the one that makes this video.he just a grooving to the song.

  • @LUCKYDONDONS lol I totally peeped him out back there just jammin he had me LMAO

  • i wish i cold click the "like" button but 777 is too perfect a number to mess up

  • She has the voice of an angel, not to mention how talented she is! Love it!

  • @maggiem99 But her tits are small. So is her hair. WHERE IS THE FLAIR? WHERE IS THE WOW? WHERES HER TITS?

  • @xsxchoeyx Sounds like your a hate'er, The good Lord gave her a verry wounderful gift, AND A VERRY WOUNDERFUL BODY,

  • @xsxchoeyx You say that like it's a bad thing. Lol. She looks to be a firm C here. Are you blind? She might be a modest D. What do you want? Watermelons?

  • I guess 5 people lost their man!

  • Dolly is still the best for that song, but Alison is damn good!!!

  • @roncrandall Yeah..hard to call...Dolly may be a bit more dramatic ...both excellent.

  • @roncrandall Yeah..hard to call...Dolly may be a bit more dramatic ...both excellent. Dolly's backing may be a bit livelier.

  • wow

  • Alison Krauss are awsome!

    Union Station + Alison= Fantastic!!!!!!!!

  • Alison could sing the phone book and blow me away! What a voice! Reba also does a gorgeous cover of this song for any fans. :)

  • i like all types of music and the white stripes does an rock version that awesome

  • EXCELLENT.

  • Rhonda Vincent absolutely "owns" this song of Dolly's.

  • @airplanegeek11

I listened to it, and didnt care for it. The tempo is too fast, so fast that the sense of despair is lost....that is what makes the song.

  • Believe it not, Paula Cole did a live, solo, acoustic version of this song that was the fantastic. Nice job by Allison, perfect as always.

  • Comment removed

  • I completely agree. I've seen her live and there are not many people that can sound better in person than they do on the album. Alison Krauss delivers let me tell you. This song is my favorite Dolly song too, I was so excited when I found this video.

  • to take a song by Dolly...you have to
