@august251976 An interesting question/observation, I have had exactly the same experiences, I think Mr Weller is 1. to English. 2, to musically sophisticated and 3, Weve got Im !!! Seriously unless your are Bon Jovi with your feet on the eight wheeler dash board no chance is US. I believe the same is for The Sterephonics the last time I enquired of a few American Chums they just shrugged and said Stereo........wot !!!
@eillekeillek I may represent a small minority, but I'm a Yank who has loved Weller and his music for nearly on 30 years now. His early stuff with the Jam may have been distinctly English, but most of what he's done since is universal in its appeal, so I can't quite understand why he's never attained a bigger audience here. That said, he always plays to several thousand raucous fans whenever he passes through NYC, which is where I hail from, so go figure?!?
@LeGrandeOrange So glad his talents dont go missed in US, when ever I have mentioned him to US business contacts of mine I get a vacant stare.
I attended a recent Weller Concert in Brighton and as usual, 1st class performance, but slightly annoying crowd disturbance, there is a body of fans who are mistaken with the view that Wellers music requires fighting to be enjoyed !!!
Best version ever of Sunflower, IMHO. Just a staggering talent, Weller is. Few, if any, can match him here as a triple threat: singer/songwriter/guitarist. Long live the Modfather!
Top notch drumming!
