yeah but most people don't knife attack you that way . for the most part , a stabbing motion , can be one way or the other . deflection is key in defending such an attack .
Always an honor to recieve a comment from Guru Bobbe Edmonds.
Founder of Edmonds Martial Arts Academy. One of two people dually ranked by both Pendekar Herman Suwanda and his brother Bambang of Mande Muda Silat and Sudanese Pencak Silat in Bandung Indonesia.
That last part was to make a point. I'll never be as good as you at what you do, but I can get enough to use. I mainly aim to use it against other bad guys, as people like me will never meet people like you head on.
Don't assume bad guys are dumb, or lazy. I'm taking your stuff (especially the ground fighting) and adding it to Yang Jwing Ming's Crane Chin Na, plus my Emperado Kajukenbo. Don't worry, I'll blind you before we begin.
Brunei & Philipines are close neighbours, most weapon based S E Asian martial arts look similar if not the same. But its only superficial. Like basics strikes & kicks in karate, teakwondo and muay thai, but each has thier own specialty, u can only do so much with 2 arms and 2 feet. The difference in intentions, concepts and culture can only be seen as u progress in training, its the same with the bladed arts.
thats right, philippines was part of the sultanates pre hispanically speaking, and the muslim filipinos used silat , later called "arnis or "eskrima" as observed and tasted by the spanish occupiers. the phils martial origin is from silat arguably, the knife system here is very very obvious in relation to the philippine arts.
@williebl2005 thats because the root of FMA in general is malayan martial arts, Dan inosanto himself created a system called Maphilindo which is stand for : Ma(malaysia)Phi(philipines)Indo(indonesia) , dan created this system to honoured his silat gurus
Im Harley M.Amundson, CPL, HHC 2/75, served from 2002 to 2004 in Afghanistan, currently back from Iraq; US Army Rangers Division. Ive trained under this individual on afew of my visits to Great Britain and i assure you that his blade techniques and firearm disarms are at the top of the food chain. See you in 6 weeks Guro Maul.
as always an honor to recieve a comment frm Mas Guru Heriford. The video is only part of an instruction, it doesnt give the full detils of the movements. Constant repetative training to obtain the correct knife response, it needs correct instructions, patience, dedication & responsibility. i dont think the bad guys have those 4 traits that martial artists have. respect.
@ Maul. r u the instructor in the video? i live in thailand and was wondering if there's a silat school that teaches yr style in thailand?

that can be done with a hand , an elbow , a shoulder , a knee , a foot , even a headbutt . but it has to move outside , not inside .

I thought they only used the reverse grip in the movies. ;-)
This video is from the pre-Vibram era!

Please explain the similarity of your Brunei Silat Suffian Bela Diri to Filipino Martial Arts Inosanto, Sayoc & Pekiti Tirsia.
Do you teach in the Los Angeles Area?
Maybe I could be part of one of your sessions if you have seminars here.
