@here882 You're rather overstating the role of the Queen in the UK. Her only questioning of government and the PM consists of regular meetings behind closed doors with the PM. She can express her personal views privately to the PM, but her views are merely advice that he may choose to accept or reject. She does not "check" laws; rather, she is bound by convention to give royal assent to every Act of Parliament.

@jackooboy1 The Royal Family of Great Britain does not rule because of Devine right. That "right", if you know your history, was rendered obsolete with the beheading of King Charles I. The Monarch holds their position because Parliament and the people want them to. Precident for the removal of a British Monarch after they had lost the support of the people was set by the Glorious Revolution of 1688. The rules of succession are decided by Parliament, not through any Devine Right.

@11nytram11 Even if you want to reduce royals to a "tradition," you'll notice the royal family's motto is "Dieu et mon droit" which literally translates to "God and my right," a direct reference to divine right of kings which has been used officially since King Henry the V... not to mention the whole idea that the queen continues to be the "supreme governor" or the Church of England. I understand her role has been watered down, but the concept of divine right still exists as well as aristocracy.
