  • love the tone!

  • Steve vai style? Lol...

  • yummy well done

  • i think this guys a troll. its obviously not steve vai

  • This reminds me of if Buckethead and Vai had a love child

  • sounds more like something that satch would write as opposed to vai

  • LOOBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that was cooler then steve vai. sorry about my other three rude comments.

    this ones pretty tight

  • There's some vai phrasing in it but I wouldn't go near as far as to say IN THE STYLE OF.

  • no offence your a good guitarist n all but vais solos are so uninspiring, if that was the only guitar solo i had ever heard id think guitars are lame

  • sounds like vai to me- but what do i know,: my account name is Beef Supreme

  • @BeefSupreme288 :D best comment i seen on youtube so far

  • i hear the vai in it its like all the trembolo he is using and the wahhhhh the whine of his guitar

  • sounds more like Jennifer Batten

  • Not really steve vai but it's pretty good!

  • Can you do a lesson on whammy effects?

  • That's Kristofer Dahl style, actually... And it's pretty damn sweet!

  • Vai or NOT, it's still pretty beast.

  • Yamaha drum machine sounds. I have same drum sounds in my Yamaha PSR E413 synth.

  • Like Satriani

  • wow... that ending, makes me think 'oh i do like to be beside the seaside...' ?anyone else??

  • Lol, idk why, but it made me laugh.

  • i can hear elements of vai.....not bad dude, good job!!!

  • what pickups are those. they sound fat. kinda like a humbucker sound?

  • @ottozing 3 Single coils... you see the 2 at first but the 3rd is hidden by his hand till about 0:10 (at that point, u can tell its a single)

  • malisimo nada q ver con vai XD

  • Can you play Malmsteen ?

  • why would you want to imitate the sound of trash?

  • s0unds like a vai tone... but almost satriani-ish in my opinion, some groovy shit tho :)

  • Nice job...no floyd rose required!

  • This ain't Steve Vai.

Just because you use the whammy bar doesn't mean you sound like Vai.

Vai doesn't play just up and down scales.

up and down scales would only be found in extremely fast pieces of music such as Malmsteen.

    Because for that it works.

Vai uses this unusual phrasing that makes bigger intervals than just half and whole steps sometimes he skips an awfull lot of notes before he plays his next one.

  • Kirk's one was better, but this one is good altought

  • I like it.

  • I like it.

  • Wow that was absolute shit, thanks.

  • People are bitching about this not sounding like steve vai at all, and they need to shut up. It may not sound spot on like steve vai, and no one can compose like that madman can which is why he's so damn famous, but it sounds closer than anyone else I've heard who'se attempted to compose in his style. I listen to this and I think, "yup that sounds like steve vai" and if others can't, I believe they need to listen to more of his music more thoroughly.

  • @l0lercaust Most of the people replying to this video have not even listened to Vai outside of his popular songs, and have no idea what Steve Vai's style consists of.

  • @Conkyproductions Agreed, Jiboom is fairly popular and pretty similar to parts of this song, but I guess people just know for the love of god and tender surrender and 'that duel with the karati kid' :P

  • geez steve vai has gone through alot of musical stages... this is pretty good if your thinking the ultra zone album, but completely out for real illusions :) so stop saying this isn't like steve...

  • I'm sorry did you said VAI?!

Cas i tought it was his pal Joe Satriani

any way it was nice :-)

  • not really vai at all...

  • What's with all the rests?

  • To all those saying it sounds like satch, clearly you do not realize satch taugh vai at one point? That is why you can hear a bit of satch in it. Satch influenced Vai.

  • @EddieTh3Ead

satch taught kirk too. but kirk doesnt like satch.

  • To my ears, this sound like vai. Good work men

  • To sound more Vai-ish, apart from extreme whammy wankage, try sliding down to a not. So if you were originally going to play the 5th fret on, lets say, the B string, slide down from the 7th or 8th fret. It encompasses he fluency.

    Hope i Halped! :)

  • This is steve vai, just in the old days,

  • More like satch than steve vai

  • nice steve vai tone, and I caj reconize a bit of his playing there

  • cabronazoooooooooo

  • name of this song? i search the tab of this solo but i dont find it...

  • in the style of vai id say its a no because of the backing track. you got the phrasing and the technique right imo but that track makes it sound more of a satch jam session even though satch and vai use the same modes and scales etc. try a different track maybe in e lydian.

  • more like joe satriani then anything else

  • Comment removed

  • You're all retarded this is so Vai, annoying use of the trem, too technical playing and overly bouncy sounding riffs.

  • @Chaz6993X You're a retard! The use of the tremolo isn't annoying at all and and wtf do you mean by TOO technical??!

  • @KingOfShadows1500 The use of the trem for more then a phrase is quite annoying. When you don't limit yourself to the use of something it gets quite annoying.

  • @Chaz6993X This is false. Steve Vai developed a whole new style of playing using the tremolo, which gives him that unique sound that he's known with. Using the tremolo is like picking: you can't say it's annoying when you do it more than once! It just a way of playing the guitar!

  • @KingOfShadows1500 He didn't develop anything, he does it about as regularly as Jeff Beck did it.

  • @Chaz6993X Yes he did develop his own style, like every musician does. Plus, he brought a whole new way to play the guitar; you should inform yourself.

  • @KingOfShadows1500 I know the story about him locking himself inside a room for a long period of time to tune his ear to the perfect pitch or whatever of the different positions of the trem, but seriously, it shouldn't be in every fucking measure of music that he rights. It's obnoxious and it's my opinion. Jesus.

  • @Chaz6993X Calm down, he doesn't even use it THAT often! It's all about your style of playing. Some people don't use it at all and it's fine; it depends what you want your music to feel like.

  • @Chaz6993X that was really stupid what u just said, dont comment for like the next 4 years

  • @Marquenater It's not really all that stupid. Stupid is saying something like this isn't talented or saying that it's bland.

  • Good Job! xD

  • this is not a fender tremolo. its wilkinson or gotoh?

  • this is not an original tremolo on your guitar gay. its gotoh or wilkinson?

  • what sort of guitar is this?

  • Great playing Kris! I notice a lot of Haters here, I checked and wouldn't you know it, none of them can play. Big shock eh?

  • That sounded more like Satch actually.

  • midilica don't diss kris he probably a 100 times better than you why don't you try and play like steve vai and post a video response if you think your better!

  • Nice interpretation. :)

  • nice but not exactly vai kind of scales and licks. firstly vai doesnt do choppings or mute scaling, den, vai doesnt sweep more than 4string sweeping. not very good demo on vai style.

  • That's really cool.

  • Kris, play your music, but please stop with vai and johnson, you've got no idea about their music, or just didnt listen to them at all... seriously...

  • that was great kris but try using ur nec pickup to give it more tone but other than that i give it 10/10 :)

  • i know that they're similar but this is more like satch

  • F@ck. I used to have a Fender Strat IDENTICAL to that. Why did I sell it? WHY? I liked your presentation, even though it wasn't as Vai-ish as I hoped. Thumbs up.

  • stud

  • nice playing but not to vai ish .but hay we all hear different things .

  • @MUDSHARK111

I get what you mean. i KINDA hear it but not really. this isn't extremely vai ish

  • lolllll -Its so true those G3 motherfucking guitarists are amateurs ones. Far from the big DEAL!!. THANK YOU!!

  • very nice solo

  • this is satch

  • @midilica Can you please help me loose my virginity - I think it would dramatically improve my legato technique. Thanks a lot!

  • @KristoferDahl it helps your whammy bar skills aswell.

  • @KristoferDahl maybe if you put it into lydian it would sound more steve vai-ish...

still you are a beast guitarists and im pritty sure you have great legato =D

    keep rocking

  • @KristoferDahl you owned him.heh!

  • @KristoferDahl jajajajajajajaja you rock men!!!

  • @KristoferDahl

    haha!

    What distortion are you using?

  • @KristoferDahl lololololollool

  • @KristoferDahl

    haha owned xD

  • @KristoferDahl I'm afraid some scientists are now saying that there may infact be very little, if any connection between legato and the loss of ones cherry. I infact tried it (with my mothers blessing, of course) and achieved little more than excessive foot odour... Who knew? Thanks for the upload. On a more related topic, I am trying to pick with my 3 redundant fingers tucked in (as you are doing in the video) but they tend to obstruct any palm dampening/ muting. Can you help?

  • @KristoferDahl ahuahuahuahauhah , you're great and funny , and you have also a nice groove in your vein !!! \m/

  • @KristoferDahl Lol :D

  • @midilica and what's up your butt?

he said it's a steve vai STYLE solo, and it is.

  • @midilica and what's up your butt?

he said it's a steve vai STYLE solo, and it is.

Kristofer IS a great guitar-player, and i bet you cannot play half as good as him..

but then again, you might be Steve Vai himself?:o

  • @midilica you're such a pussy, fuck off, you cant touch this guy at guitar he's on a whole new level that you can't reach

  • @midilica your an ass

  • talent

  • Yeah, sounds more like Satch, but still quite nice \m/ \m/

  • Doesn't sound like steve vai at all, but still cool stuff.

  • @Alexander1991

    At all?

Must have something wrong with your ears. It is clearly in the vein of Vai. Of course I could tell without a doubt it isn't Vai himself, but it isn't supposed to be. The pedaling heavy guitar definitely sounds more like something Joe would do though.

  • @vmcnick What the hell are you talking about, the only thing that's steve vai is his use of wah pedal combined with his intense bending.

  • @Alexander1991

In the vein of Vai... My point exactly.

  • All those suckkers that only talk popudo about ur playing style r tab readers only and they think they can do better when their just talking. Any whom, throw in some micheal Angelo style,...

  • that is not the steve vai style. This more joe satriani.

  • @TheSchafer78 but steve vai sounds like joe satriani

  • @jelmersaur Yes, granted, But steve vai doesn't play strait up pinch harmonics or pentatonic licks(i cannot say an pentatonic 4 sure but i am almost certain) and he doesnt play on a swing beat and doesnt sound like he is playing satriani, blues based riff's.

  • its not steve vai style.

  • this is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • apparently it doesnt sound like him but it still sounds fucking awesome :D

  • i love the tone, kristofer how did you get it, what pedals?

  • Youre solos always end SOOOO bad... And they begin in the middle of a lick too. Im still a beginner but I would advise everybody to be really careful learning things from this guy.

  • Slides, bar flutters, staccato, wah, sweeps (although Vai is not much of a sweeper). Definitely tools from Vai's toolbox. Good job. Sounds like something from Flex-able.

  • err thats not Vai's style

  • closer to satches sound apart from the ending me thinks.

  • Inte för att det låter som Steve men du äger fan sönder! SKAPA ETT EGET BAND!!!!!!!!! NU½!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wtf!? this guy dont suck! why does everyone keep saying that? I think he's good!! :\

  • @kristoferdahl....you know for a steve vai solo i was expecting it to be somewhat crazier like zappa-eqse. or something a little more...impressive

  • goood job, but it would sound better with some delay, don't u think?

  • ma fottiti...

  • yeah its just the tone, search andy james from licklibrary, he teach vai`s style completly

  • its just your tone. no licks in vai style was played. you're a good player tho.

  • ur really good...i wish i could play like you..hahahha..

not much of a whammy bar user here<,

  • that was dogshit

  • ummmm doesnt sound like steve vai but its still ok

  • steve vai´s style??? it´s so far..

  • wanna be freak...

1.you suck at playing others style

    2.play your own style!

  • no steve vai here sorry

  • Not bad man. Needs more Vai style flair though

  • lol he doesn't suck this guy is pretty good.

  • dude fucken sick i sware!!

  • of course it doesnt sound 100% like vai, but i think he catched his style quite well especially his earlier stuff is kind of similar to this

  • just cuz it didnt sound like vai doesnt mean it wasnt sick.

  • yea doesn't sound like vai but i think its amazing. you seriously got some skill. i hope one day i can play that well.

  • -.- bleah

  • fail.

  • that didnt sound like vai lol

  • wow amazing solo, very inventive, check out my die to live cover, i made the video extra special!

  • whats the name of the song?

  • doesn't sound like vai

  • This is actually very Satriani-esque.

  • doesnt really sound like steve vai's style more of a satriani feel if you ask me. still sounds good though

  • Hi, what effects are you using? I recognize the distortion, but what is that "mwaaaa"-sound? It is present in many Steve Vai records! Is it a wah-wah pedal or? Someone tell me what effect that is, please please! Pardon my "limping" english :)

  • @KristoferDahl, Have u considered doing a Steve Lukather lesson? :)

  • It's about as close to Vai as anyone can get, you can't replicate the master.

  • you got yorself one more like!

    do you like my channel?

  • Det er en meget skilla svenske det ! ;)

  • could someone please subscribe to my profile, and listen to my videos of me playing guitar and let me know what i need to improve on? id like to get to the point where i can play neo classical....

  • amazing!!

  • I have the same American deluxe Ash Strat 2004.

  • vai have unique sound so don't try to be better than a rock god!!!!

  • hell yeah. those bends sounds very similar to vai. if anything, that main riff sounds more like satriani to me. just my opinion.

  • Wow, definitely sounds like Vai! And on single coils. Nicely done.

  • cool very what efects you user..

  • Comment removed

  • Can I answer? -Yes!! But sucking is a good thing, makes you practice even harder.

  • @KristoferDahl, have you considered doing a Stevie Ray Vaughan lesson?

  • Yes but it's been a while since I played his stuff - I am not sure I could pull it off.

  • @KristoferDahl u r awesomee!! \m/ the zakk wylde lesson was funny :D hahaha

  • @KristoferDahl your a guitar beast! sure you could pull it off, greeting from australia BTW

  • hoped you would reply like that, things to play when you suck style XD

  • @KristoferDahl one great call... very nice... RESPECT and you suck really bad :P nah dude, great playing keep up the good work!!

  • @KristoferDahl Hes just being modest here :P He certainly doesnt suck and he knows it!!!!! Great solo as always Kris!!!! Im gonna give it a try when I get better at this thing :P

  • @KristoferDahl this dosent suck i think its amazing i cant play as well as that XD

  • @Nightwing690 yes..... yes he does
