  • at least they tried to pay a homage to one of the bands that influenced & inspired them (esp Lars). Vocals are a let down but the music is OK.

  • i like the cover, but Buck Dharma's guitar solos were way better. Sorry.

  • a song so good that even the most over rated, boring band in history couldn't completely ruin it.

  • nice video

  • Metallica are not even close to be as competent musicians as Blue Öyster Cult. They can fuck off.

  • @TheIprenman bullshit..

  • @TheIprenman I like metallica, but I agree that the BOC are far better. However, Metallicca are also pretty epic

  • I think no version is better. I'd rather talk about 'different'.

  • Such LUDICROUS comments! How could anyone deem it "better" when the vocals are ABYSMAL, ("as per" for Metallica)?! I'm not a BOC freak or anything but I know the vocal on the original is great, and this just is just kak. It's just karaoke standard that YOU could do yourself! If you think it's "better" then what you are in effect saying is "I don't appreciate pitch, resonance, vibrato"!!! But don't take my word - ask James Hetfield(?) if he himself thinks he sang better than Eric Bloom. Go on!

  • Yeah it rocks but... you can do nothing against the awesomeness of BÖC sorry guys they're just the best!

  • @robinetdeaufroide TOO RIGHT! BOC FTW!!

  • oh james you suck at lip syncing :p

  • metallica takes this song and they have done a bigger song than BOC

  • I love the original... but I love this version more. It speaks to every fiber in my body... In short: HOLY SHIT this is GOOD MUSIC!

  • asrtonomyy!!!!!!!!

  • I love both versions. I prefer the original intro and the original ending, but for the middle part I think I like Metallica's version better because it's heavier. Both awesome though.

  • it´s the s&m album ;)

  • @TheEnno64 garage inc disc 1

  • this is Garage inc right?

  • A great song, A great cover :D

  • hell yeah

  • hell ova tune.........

  • I disappear? better change that one

  • Nice work dude!to making this video-good job for this lovely song!I love Asronomy and adore METALLICA

  • 5:29-6:12 the best part of the song. Awsome

  • It's actually 5:01-6:12 :-P

  • the best

  • amazing!

  • doesn't the guitarist for BOC make a guest appearance on this song anyway?

  • mm...

Hearing Metallica, seeing it written on an album cover or reading it in a hair-band magazine...its like swallowing liquid metal...its sweeter than chocolate, more hearty than eating bread for the first time in years of starvation...Astronomy is such an intrinsic song, BOC did it right, Metallica did it better. imo, Metallica is better than sex.

  • @djfeas001 hey i use this line like to get laid

  • @djfeas001: Saying that Metallica is better than sex is stupid! You can totally not compare sex and Metallica.... You know why? Metallica can't be compared, even not to sex! Metallica is just the best of the best.

    So let is be clear:

    Sex = very very good

Metallica = even better than the best of the best!!!

  • Ah dude, don't rag on the band's influences... I don't think Metallica would very much appreciate that comment.

  • gran bel video!! compliments!!!

  • The original is amazing itself, live and studio. Metallica perfected it to where the song structure and made it a whol new song, keeping the timing and original structure. Hell everything metallica has covered they've done just about the same

  • Kirk's got a real cool tone here on the solo, a little cleaner of a lead tone but still just as good as ever. Anyone else notice how he changed up his wah sound for Death Magnetic but it's still totally a Kirk signature sound?

  • yh but alltho he gets a nice tone a lot of his solo's suck..... as you can see on nothing else matters its a much better solo cos its james!

  • Both bands are awesome so quit all of your bitching. I think that Metallica and Blue Oyster Cult would make a great double act.

  • good work on the clip mate

  • its not often i prefer covers to the original, (i almost killed myself when i heard Korn play another brick in the wall haha) but i can safely say that i do prefer metallica's version, im not just saying that because metallica are my favourite band, i actually mean it, but i stil have huge respect for the original

  • I love the solo at the end :D!

  • jesteria78, go blow a cow. if you dont like the cover, dont even bother listening or writing about it. go to your oyster club and eat some seefood .

  • I can describe such type of human with one word: STUPID

And I needn't be a wizzard to know this

  • I mean Jesteria87

  • Song is very Great bat clip is..... no coment

  • I LOVE THIS SONG

  • the greatest song ever! - cover or not.. and the greatest band on earth!!!!

  • not bad!!

  • nice video btw

  • i can garantee u all that metallica will live 4 ever.

  • I think they did a really good job covering this song. It's an excellent cover version.

  • If anything, James' singing could be called into question. But live, even he sounds pretty decent as compared to a vast majority of other bands I've heard.

  • And that was just for two albums. I'm not even by far mentioning the rest. To say Metallica hasn't influenced anyone or at least that their contribution to rock and metal music wasn't profound would be absurd.

  • Just hold on there, little buddy. You seriously aren't claiming that Metallica didn't influence anyone in a massive way, are you? Becuase if you are, then you are most definitely wrong. Look at the harmonics in Orion, at the mind-blasting solo that is Master Of Puppets, at the haunting riffs in Welcome Home, at most of Ride The Lightning album!

  • Whats the point in examening every individual band members abillitys? with that logic,..Motorhead sucks, the ramones suck, nirvana sucks, the pistols suck, pentagram sucks, and so on so on.....

  • Its an excellent cover of Astronomy. BOC's and Metallicas singers do have certain similar vocal tendencies which serve them well in live performances. For the young kids watch Live video "veteran of psychic wars" video by BOC. Video is grainy but watch the whole thing. It will give you a sense of why BOC was strong influence on Metallica.

  • song kicks ass. BOC, imo, kicks more ass. metallica did this song their way. it sounds a little bit heavier than it should, imo.

  • The only band in heavy metal history that made more covers than their own songs :|

  • what do you mean?

  • Whiskey in the jar is Thin Lizzys song, Astronomy is BOCs, Breadfan is Budgies, and many other, something more? most overrated band in hard rock music in my opinnion. Hammett 11th best guitarist of all time? what did he added to music? maybe 3 or 4 songs, so i dont think that Metallica is so great and did so much. Making a one big shit of a great rock classic(Whiskey in the jar), is a music abuse.

  • You are truly stupid aren't you? Hammett wrote all of the solos to the music. He wasn't a song writer but did contribute riffs here and there. Like "Enter Sandman" for instance. If you think that is nothing. Then you'd also be bashing Cliff Burton, because he did the same thing, except he didn't write solos. Just because they did covers doesn't make them overrated you asshole. Think before you speak. And "Whiskey In The Jar," is a great cover, no contest.

  • U can call it great, but comparing to the original it is a one big chaff, classic ruined thanks to them. Hammett didnt done a much in music as Jimmy Page, and there is only 2 places difference between them. For me its a fanaticism if u think that Hammett is so great, he is much overrated comparing to many other guitarists, thats why he is so famous. As i said - he added few good solos to music, but that's not enough to call him so great.

  • His contribution to Metallica has nothing to do with his musicianship. Idiot. You are comparing two different things. You can't judge a guitarist on a BANDS music. And I don't recall calling Kirk Hammett great. And whether or not he deserves the 11th greatest guitarist of all time, that's up for debate. What I was trying to say was, he's not overrated, and Metallica's covers do not suck. And who cares if he's famous? What does that have to do with anything? You fascist fuck.

  • First of all u should stop insulting me, kid. Metallica is much overrated, and thats why they are so famous.

  • you dumb fuck. they just started with doing covers. and when they were really famous. like twentie years later. they decided to record one dubblealbum full of covers. I don't that's more songs then there 7 studio albums. so stop insulting yourself. dumbass

  • So your next argument is as follows... "If a band is overrated then they become famous." ??? Are you kidding me? You have no idea where your arguments even are. First you complain that they cover songs. However, a great deal of bands do that. Then you complain about Hammett and how Metallica is overrated. How are any of these things even connected? Hammett's solo's, doing covers, being famous/being overrated. Here's and idea you washed out fuck. Unless you have supported ideas, shut the fuck up.

  • i dont mean to start a Megadeth Metallica argument but he didnt write ALL his solos. some were there for him. but that aside, hes an amazing guitarist i definitley with you on that.

  • have to agree with he hammett part but not the band part. a good guitarist but he haven`t change the world with his work. only reason he has the title for the 11th best guitarist in the world is because he has "metallica" written on the forhead. But the few solos he has written are realy good!

  • I dont wanna say that Hammett sux, but i mean that Metallica is a bit overrated, the covers that they made are one big shit, comparing to originals. Metallica didnt added nothing new to rock music, and everyone says that they added the most. Metallica is better known than Deep Purple. Deep Purple was more influencial than Metallica, but Metallica is known better, so i think thats a prove that Metallica is overrated, at least in my opinion...

  • i wouldnt say theyve contributed nothing to music because one could argue that they did. Or that they suck, because they certainly dont. But i do think theyre over-rated.

  • Kirk Hammett didn't change guitarists across the world? Have you lost your mind? What player do aspiring guitarists strive to be like? Have you ever known a serious guitarist who didn't want to learn anything Kirk Hammett immediately? Between Kirk, Jimi and Joe S., distortion was made famous and has now turned into the cornerstone of a good hard rock/metal guitarist. His and Metallica's contribution to music today is endless. They unfortunately don't get enough credit for what they've done.

  • metallica have definitely recorded more original songs than covers. i think judging someone's contribution to music on how many songs they have recorded that you like is a bit silly. what if he has played on recordings of 50 songs that me and some guy i have never met called Ted from ohio like or Joe the plumber for that matter? also, what if a musician only records one songs but it's twenty hours long, should we disparage his efforts because it's just one song whereas Hammett has '3 or 4'?

  • ...and Metallica fans, don't rag on future bands that remake old Metallica tunes. Your legacy depends on it!

  • There is a difference between Metallica remaking a song when compared to another small-time band remaking Metallica's music. Metallica is easily one of the greatest, most influential, original bands of all time -- far more-so than BOC or any other band they've remade. Metallica's hit songs will always be the greatest version to most; the same can't be said for the original artists that Metallica covers. Few people knew BOC for Astronomy, and the same applies to Thin Lizzy and Whiskey. Until now.

  • i definitley do NOT agree with you that "Metallica is easily one of the greatest, most influential, original bands of all time" and as for their covers and their originals, thats all opinion. I like the original Astronomy better than Metallicas. same with Tuesdays Gone. But i prefer Metallicas Turn the Page to Bob Segers.

  • Metallica influencing music is not opinion, it is fact. They're recognized by critics and great bands alike as one of the most influential bands of all time, without question. Ask almost any modern band, rock or metal, who their biggest influences are. Almost to a band in interviews, Metallica is a top choice. You may not prefer them over others, but you can't discredit them as legends. To those who said previously that they're not talented musically, that's ridiculous.

  • maybe they have a strong influence but they are not "easily one of the greatest" that may be your opinion but its not fact. but no matter how good they are i definitley think theyre over-rated.

  • What do you go by when considering a band one of the greatest? Influence, popularity, album sales? Perhaps originality. I am not sure I understand your brand of reasoning, blavaburnulots. Perhaps it is your opinion that they're not one of the greats, since the deciding facts say otherwise.

  • i did mention earlier that greatness is in opinion.

  • Greatness is not an opinion. Great does not mean you like someone. Hitler was great in the fact that he moved nations, even though I am not a particular fan. The same can be said about the plague, a great sickness. Polio, a great virus. Metallica, influential to millions of people and thousands of bands, would be considered great, blavaburnulots. Opinions or not, what they've done is respected by anyone who knows music. It's impossible to deny.

  • greatness in the way you mentioned it is opinion. it is your opinion that they are "EASILY THE GREATEST BAND" especially since lots of other people say Jimi Hendrix is easily the best artist, not Metallica. No one can say what the greatest are or who THE greatest is because we all think differently. A large group of people can think the same way but that doesnt make them right. Greatness cannot be measured.

  • One's like me(43)should be F&CKeen thrilled that new band has remade a supremely classic obscure tune like this to younger generations. Otherwise,it will fade into oblivion like our lives and the sands of time. Yes,I will still listen to the original version,in a drunken stupor of mind altering magnitude to appreciate the extraterrestrial realms that are possible to visit by this earthbound human. But,dont deny the subsequent generations the same joy via their bands. Your legacy depends on it!

  • old tallica oh yeah ,garage inc was cool aswell

    RIP metallica

  • METALLICA WILL NEVER DIE!!!

  • sure metallica todays one is not metallica its bunch of shit diggers

  • ?? That makes no sense at all

  • so do you

  • No dude lol, I'm serious... "

sure metallica todays one is not metallica its bunch of shit diggers" What does that mean?

  • the self plaguirism album they just made , they digged their best old albums to satisfy their fans its bull shit

  • best band in every way!!!!!!!!!!

  • i've heard a few of metallica's covers. In my opinion, all the ones I have heard are great

  • Your Definatly Wrong there. mind you, your entitled to an opinion... but your opinion isnt FACT. :)

  • no man.now you are wrong.

  • He just said that an opinion simply is NOT a fact.

And this is not only my opinion but a FACT.

  • AND i said that in MY OPINION HE IS WRONG.SAYING MY OPINION IS A FACT

  • 1. It isn't illegal to cover songs!!

    2. Many bands to that!!

    3. Metallica doesn't suck!!!

    4. Metallica version of this song is much better than boc version in my opinion, but thats just my opinion maybee not yours ;)

  • yea metallica rules this cover sorry. This is way better then the original but the original is cool too. this song fucking kicks ass

  • I suppose I'm just a fan of the song itself because I enjoy both versions. However, I like the BOC one more because of my musical preference and taste. When it come to taste no version is inherently better or worse; just different.

  • my fav song!

  • the end of the video is the shit...it fits really good

  • such a loser vswitt

  • Good Work

  • BOC's version is a peice of shit. Metallica is way better, they have more emoition in it, kirk does in his solos at least

  • A piece of shit that Metallica covered,,, duh

  • your seriously the biggest piece of shit ever man. how can metallica cover a song without BOC? I love both bands but you are an igonrant bastard who doesnt know shit about music. Go jerk of already

  • cool

  • i like the video (one, UnforgivenI & II...)

  • This Rocks!

  • This is great, I have to use it in the soundtrack to one of my comics.

  • Metallica did a great cover of this song!!!

James voice is at his best during this song in my opinion

  • For you guys that say that Metallica suck and soo on! You make me wanna ripp of your ears! You dont deserve to be abble to heare such good art! Metallica had made their own version of the original BOC song. The original is good. And Metallica made a damn good cover!!! it is as simple as that!!!

  • BOC way better (this song only)

  • ur mom

  • hahaha

  • exelente tema la cagaron los weones

  • I would never thought in years Metallica

Would play an BOC, cut there Teeth with

    Warlock

  • teledisk from nothing else matters but song is great

    !!!!!!!!

  • gods!

  • james hetfield

    kirk hammet

    robert trujillo

    and of course

the man that started it all

    lars ulrich

    rock on \m/

  • Sorry, but Cliff Burton rocked..

  • he was naming the current line up I Believe but ya Cliff was the best out of them all

  • man some people think they own the band, it's rather primitive, in a way. If a band - such as Metallica - Covers a song; it only shows their respect to the bands that started it all. Like Iced Earth, they did a Album called 'Tribute to the Gods' covering bands such as Blue Öyster Cult, Judas Priest, Kiss, and several others. my point is: Stop this ridiculous argument; it's really boring, and only shows your lack of manners and stupidity

  • iced earth ftw!

    good band

  • im sorry? lol

  • in front of Metallica, sorry

  • Damn, Iced earth suck a huge cock in front of Metallica! There's no way you can compare 'em!

  • LOL ok for an american band, Dream Theater rules all. i really dont listen to IE

  • i love all the bands. Dream Theater and Metallica are even. can't choose between the two. love both their styles. best bands ever,

  • with every music video, the people who post comments GET IN ARGUMENTS!!! WTF

let's just agree that metallica kicks ass

  • NO, The cult is much better! i know Metallica respects Boc, but they are inferior to them period!

  • lmao its called back to the garage days 1 & 2 cover albums

  • ok, no album is bad. Good enough?

  • Öyster Cult and Metallica version owns, But Öyster more...

  • Whenever a band plays a song, whether it be a cover or an original, they leave their distinct mark on it. Although the lyrics may be the same the 2 songs are played differently. You can say it is Metallica from the way the song is played

  • why is this song explicit?

  • i like the cults versoin better but id play this one instead

  • man you should fuck your self..!!

  • lmao, im down.

  • this video is ..........bbbbbbeautifullll! and the song don't need a words.....a kiss, bye

  • you know, black album was probably the worst album, and anyways, last time I checked, this is real Metallica. . .I mean, they sure don't seem like imposters. and anyways, you have no intelligent explanation for why Metallica sucks now *even though they don't*. . .so until you do. . .shut up.

  • of course i have one: simply beacuse they are now playing just for MONEY!!! while in their first albums they didn`t so you are the one who haves to shut up noob

  • m8 sry but i totaly disagree that "black album" is the worst... there are so many good songs on it...like enter the sadman, of wolf and man, wherever i may roam, even the unforgiven...and 1-2 more mabe! by my opinion "load" is the worst..

  • sry i said load..but i wanted to say reload... though there are some exception on this one too..like fuel and the memory remains..

  • You are not a real Metallica fan. If you were you would realize that Metallica refuses to be labeled as this or as that. They write what they feel at that moment in time. To be honest with you, I think you are an idiot. If Metallica's cover songs are not the "real Metallica" where the hell do you think the "real Metallica" came from? They didn't just come out of nowhere, they were influenced by other bands. So in all honesy the "real Metallica" is a cover band, just like every other band.

  • I was replying to joako90

  • firstly:who the fuck are you to say if i am or not a metallica fun?.. secondly:MEtallica was influenced by others bands but this dosen`t means that they play their songs!! idiot!..thirdly the "real metallica" is the metallica they created .. the song the writed; not the easy way they took by playing others bands songs asshole!so i think you should think it twice before answering me ... thanks a lot.

And if you say that every band is a "Cover" band you should never talk again about music man.

  • okay asshole. EVERY band starts out playing other bands music in their earliest days so dont fucking talk. btw you have terrible grammar. learn english

  • firstly:Who the fuck are you to say if i am or not a metallica fun?? secondly:THe fact that they where influenced by others bands dosen`t means that they had to choose the easy way and play others bands songss.

Thirdly : METALLICA CAME FROM THEM MUSic CREATED AND WRITED BY THEM! ASSHOLE!!! NOT FROM SONGS FROM OTHERS BANDS Played by them.IF you say all bands are covers bandS!please dont ever open your mouth again.

Please think it twice before answering; thanks a lot..

    JACk

  • hell yeah

since when did metallica become a cover band

last i checked they wrote most of their songs except the ones they did to honor the great musicians of before their time so catchermonster46 go learn some stuff about great, pure-talent music and then comment other people

at least joako90 doesn't make shit up

  • Nice video, good work. I like Metallica's better than BOC. Hetfield brings so much intensity to every thing they do. Even though this album is entirely covers Metallica takes every opportunity to make each song their own.

  • Whatever...

  • Whatever what? Not intelligent enough to put your thoughts of "whatever" into words? If you're going to post try it make it worth while to read.

  • I reckon I'm intelligent enough to get by. Sometimes I just get a kick out of posting stupid comments and reading the replies from anonymous jerks like yourself.

  • great Cover but it doesn't beat the original

  • What a damn good song covered from the best band ever !!!!!

U made a very cool video, dude ;)

  • Man! U've done an awsome Job on this vid. VSWITT you can do my bands vid any day!!

    Good job mate.

  • I think there isn't a video cus they didn't write the song. That's a shame, damn blue oyster cult.

  • there isn't a video because usually only singles get videos, and from this album they were turn the page and whiskey in the jar, and they both have video's, and pretty fucking well done. I suggest picking up the video's dvd

  • this is well done

...like leaving the morning after great sex

  • Very very nice video, better than most than just consist of slideshows. Love this song, definetly going in my favorites.

  • damn good cover

  • Heeyy!!..

  • Yo Hellmike13 - look at the cover of Garage Inc. and you'll see the Metallicats!!!

  • why there isn't a video of astronomy performed by metallica?
