  • Words cannot describe how much I love Dead Space 1 and 2. That is my review.

  • Damn you're long winded.

  • @anotherdrunkguy What can I say, I like to go in-depth on whatever I'm reviewing.

  • @Zaranyzerak Yes you do. Anyway, took your word for it and bought it. Should I watch the animated prologue first?

  • @anotherdrunkguy You mean Downfall? Yes, I think you'd get the most out of it if you watch that first. And before THAT read the first comic book mini-series (or watch the motion comic, which you should be able to find on YouTube somewhere). Then turn off the lights, put on your headphones (or surround system) and enjoy!

  • Oh, the 're' at the end didn't mean anything, I'm using an iPad, so commenting on YouTube is a little different..

  • @Zaranyzerak Hey Sean, do you know about any places where I can get the Dead Space 1 & 2 Comics, that can also ship to Norway? I know they had the Dead Space Comic on Amazon.com, but they are currently sold out.. But atleast they have the Extraction Comic =)re

  • @Zaranyzerak Ok, thanks I will try to find the blu-rays and comic's then =)

  • Do I have to watch Downfall and read Dead Space the comic to get the most outta the story? And if so, what should I do first, watch Downfall, read the comic (or watch the animated version of it) or play Dead Space? Btw Aftermath is out now, if the movie adds to yhe story, when should I see it.

  • @cheezdoodle96 You DEFINITELY get more out of the story if you check out all the tie-in stories as well, they all connect up nicely. I'll be doing a video on thjs subject in the near future, but the basic rundown for the first one is: Comic, Downfall, Game. Then with Dead space Extraction it's comic, then game. With Dead Space 2 it's Comic, Ignition, Aftermath, Game, Severed. There's also the novel Dead Space Martyr which is a prequel set 200 years prior to the events of the first game.

  • Woops my bad..

  • I heard the makers of deadspace studied car accident victims and suicide pics to make sure the game affects were correct lol intresting fact about the game thought ude enjoy.

  • I laugh at horror movies... all of them but dead space scares me to the point that i find a save and turn it off... both 1 and 2 :P I've finished both games but damn... I hate saying i'm scared, but i'll admit it for this game

  • Only 27 more days left till AWESOMENESS!!!

  • @Striker3564 Next week!!!!!!!

  • Only 27 more days left till EPICNESS!

  • This game scared the shit out of me

  • Que verguenza, un hombre cuarenton jugando consolas de adolescentes, que verguenza.

  • @ThexDantheww If games weren't meant to be played by adults, why do they have so many that are M-Rated? You're never too old to play video games, that's ridiculous.

  • @ThexDantheww Donde vive'? Tienes electricidad en tu casa? Tiene un television? Porque todos estos juegos son por adultos. Queries que todos se rian de ti? Por favor saca esta palabra, stupido sonso!

  • @ThexDantheww lol que enfermo the mierda :D

  • The PS3 version of Dead Space 2 comes with a port of Extraction. You gonna do any videos about that game?

  • 1/25/11 can't wait

  • hey zaranzerak you should add me

  • you laugh alot lol but i enjoyed your review, you are a very likeable person...how should i put it, when watching this review it wasnt like i was sitting going ugh get to the score, it was actually enjoying it even though ive already played it

  • you laugh alot lol

  • I am the Chuck Norris of Dead Space. Beat it on every difficulty, I basically sucked out everything in the game. (Pun? XD)

  • @benzzodude try that on dead space 2 it will make dead space 1 look like cupcakes

  • the beginning of the game was kinda like the Movie Event Horizon. that movie scared and phsycologically disturbed me a lot.

  • You cant forget that a big part of the scare is losing because dead space is a game that has limited life in the sense that you need med packs to heal, no stations or automatic regeneration, and that adds to the tension of constantly trying to not get hit and being as cautious as possible which in most parts of the game is the scariest part

  • Well I am definetly jaded and used to all kind of horror effects. I don't think it's the game it's me. I can watch a horror movie or play a survival horror game (I did that quite a lot times) and sleep after that like a baby. To be honest it is a bit weird. They no longer have any effect.

  • @hemidas Agreed

  • yeah omfg dead space scares me shit-less haha .... bioshock is a very gd game but to me it seems to try too hard to scare you u know? but yeah its kinda scary i guess sometimes bioshock series scares me but not shit-less lol i loved it and i pre-ordered dead space 2 and bioshock infinity ( well not yet but when it gets i date i will ) wow i really cannot wait to find out how dead space 2 will scare me shit-less hahahahahah !!!

  • @ratchetqwark89 BioShock's "scares" are a lot more psychological, I think. Seeing what the people of Rapture have done to themselves, and what others have done TO them. It's more of a creeping horror that builds over the course of the story. Oh sure, there are flat-out scary/creepy moments, but overall it's a very different kind of "scary" than Dead Space. Dead Space is more the "haunted house in space," which creates an atmosphere of tension and anticipation while also scaring you shitless.

  • @Zaranyzerak yeah i absoleutely agree and yes there is shit load of psychological aspects of bioshock ... ive played the first one and completed it on my way to completing number 2 and yeah its just lots of tension where you know that said people have done something horrile to some1 else and it make you feel that they are going to do whatever they did to you now that is psychological warfare for ya !!! :D

  • Hey ZARANYZERAK!!!! i am a huge fan of your vids!!! I was wondering will you do a demo or game walkthrough of god of war 3 or a bioshock walkthrough!!!

  • graphics were great , game predictable bio shock seemed more intelligent , monster apear as i complete task over and over

  • @jamesbrain1 Yeah, it's hard to beat BioShock for story/intelligence. That one's a real gem, wish there were more games of that calibre.

  • does this game have any replay value?

  • @lordOFbrooklyn Yes, I'd say so. You can't upgrade everything in one go, so you'd need at least a couple of runs to upgrade all your gear. Plus finishing it unlocks Impossible Mode (along with quite a lot of other stuff), which is INSANE if you're up for a challenge.

  • At least on Dead Space 2, PS3 will get a turn for special edition that will literally NEVER be on 360.... MU ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!

  • I fell for the "dead necromorph" trick. Now I mutilate dead bodies.

  • Res 5 has good graphics but i have bought dead space on ebay so i will see what the game looks like. For res 5 i rented it a while ago and bought it on ebay few days ago and shipping now. I dont play alot of scary games im more like gta or war gamer but we will see what happens with dead space

  • I feel the same way. You have to submerge yourself into the game to enjoy it. And even if things jump at you, that is not cheap scare, those are good moments which make you jump. I remember one part specifically in chapter 4 where I was walking through a hallway and something tried to pierce through the wall, then it stopped. I ran through the hallway to avoid contact, but then curiously went back to look through the hole it had left. Boom it started to pierce again! I was amazed. DS>RE5.

  • question, will you be doing something similar with dead space 2 when that comes out?

    (think its due this fall)

  • so true ! the game crawls on you have all the right elemets and a full screen with no numbers "ammo ,health map or any........... and some mild rpg parts as upgrade gear weapons and skills " best horror action ever ! played mine on 52" with hdmi cabels "1080" with full suround ......and great review thanks for that

  • @gardini100 also a big screen tv, surrond sound, and no lights. my friend said he played it at night and the screaming brought neighbors to call the cops because they thought his family was being murdered

  • thanks for responding to my tweet bucko! :D but will you be doing a walkthrough on dead space two?

  • GOD DAMN IT!!! you actually made me jump at the end.. Ahahaha that was so epic :D By the way very nice game walk through, i followed you and your lovely wife from episode 1 - 41.. An epic journey. Oh and nice game review 5 stars :)

  • I was just browsing reviews. I don't mind that you like the game, but did you really need to spend three full minutes *after editing* without saying a word about what sort of game it is? A quick introduction would've helped me. Thanks for publishing.

  • I did a 41-part walkthrough of the entire game prior to doing this review, an an additonal part doing a walkthrough of the demo version. I simply assumed that since the game has been out since October, 2008 and has had so much press between then and now that I didn't need to explain what it was (it's pretty common knowledge that it's a sci-fi horror game, which a glance at any random screenshot or reading of the title should make pretty obvious), but rather just focus on my impressions of it.

  • I have added an annotation 3 seconds into the video that briefly states what Dead Space is for those who don't know.

  • Thanks. I hope I didn't come off too obnoxious, I'd just been browsing for tips.. I haven't really followed game publications since they were about the Atari ST, but recently got a PS3.

  • I got this game the other day(played it with the lights off, my mistake..It gave me the heebie jeebies.I remember looking at a corridor that was almost pitch black with that creepy mist and a really dodgy looking corner thinking , you seriously want me to go down that friking way?cant go forward, cant go back, cant even stand in one place too long without being freaked out :) the pause button is my new best friend :) I'm really enjoying so far,in space no one can hear me scream :(((

  • 1ST Off i love ur vids and ur question about the necromorphs purpose i presumed that they were kind of like the flood from halo where there goal is whatever the "hive mind/gravemind" wants to. Such as the making sure no one can activate the rings like in halo it might be the same way but with the marker

  • this game is a hard game i cant get passed the part were the 2 poles come out but 1 pole attaches to a piece in the wall but the 2nd one cant and i dont kno wut to do i do have a psn: if anyone can add me on ps3 and help me on that level plz help my psn is iiDJKingii

  • @xXguatxkillerXx you need to stasis the 2nd pole and then run to the screen up the ramp :)

  • If that's the part where you're fixing the Tram, I cover that in Part 2 of my walkthrough videos. We had probs with it too...

  • By the way, have you ever played or like any METAL GEAR SOLID games? If so, then which one?

  • LOVE Metal Gear Solid! I've played the first two to death, really need to get around to playing 3 and 4. Such an amazing story, really a series of games that makes you feel like you're part of some epic, action adventure espionage movie.

  • @Zaranyzerak My Exact sentiment for MGS series. i played 1st & 3rd soo many times. I get lost in the greatness of Metal Gear Games..... everything is so great about it, splly Snakes Voice. Amazing.... Simply Amazing.

  • Hehe, maybe he should get some plasmids and hack stuff in Dead Space 2!

  • I'm currently playing the game, and I'm enjoying it! It's fun and scaaaaary! But there's only one thing that's kinda bugging me a little bit, mainly that if Isaac is an engineer then why couldn't he just break the damn stores and take all freakin' weapons and healthpacks? I know it's just a game, but it's make logical sense to just hack the stores like Bioshock and take everything!

  • Well, they never said he was a GOOD engineer... ;)

  • yea it is true the game is scary its scaryer than resident evil i seen a big black guy got scared of it and i dont meen the word big in fat i meen it as very muscular

  • no no no its not from our solar system its from aegis 7, thts the solar system i was talking about lolcouple million light years from aegis 7 and its actually in our own solar system tht the game is based in so ...... hey...... lol

  • oh and its saturn btw and yes its a planet in our solar system but i was right when i said a couple million light years from aegis 7 which is what saturn is so if we combine both of our methods together then hey we get a more complete story so to speak of dead space 2 lol

  • ok then lol u know more than me then

  • Yep, I've been following their info hub about it on their website.

  • haha i know lots of things about dead space 2 ..... its on a heavily populated space station ( i forget what the name of the space station is called) two years after usg ishimura some couple million light years away from aegis 7 and somehow isaac somehow survived nicole's necromorphic self on tht shuttle. also there is going to be online multiplayer and i think splitscreen story mode. AND its comes out about between july 2010 and november 2010 OK lol

  • ich bin 16 und ich bestelle es mir uncut^^

    :-D

  • Dead Space makes Resident Evil look like a joke.

  • im 12 and im wishing me this on christmas

  • "It throws everything! Even the kitchen sink at you!" I couldn't stop laughing when you said that!

  • what do you think of dead space extraction zaranyzerak

  • You sounds like a retard.

  • You writes like a retard.

  • That scared the crap out of me.

  • That scared that crap out of me.

  • lol at the end ''boo oh come on you jumped i saw you'' lol.

  • well all i can say is i cant wait for the second one dead space 1 is one of my favourite horror games and i enjoyed beating the game

  • Man, the way you describe how this game is scary makes me want it to be in first-person-view...

I know one of the game's things is the suit and everything.

But I wish it would be even more immersive and up-close being in the guy's own view.

Perhaps there is (or they should do) a mod for it...

  • Again, because of the cinematic nature of the game, the fact that it's third-person really doesn't detract from the experience. It's like watching a sci-fi horror movie, but with you in control of the main character. I think it would actually lose something in first person, since then you wouldn't get all those spectacular death scenes... But it's still very easy to think of the main character as "you," even without the first person perspective. You just kinda get in the zone...

  • Yeah, I understand.

But I guess that's just me, I like the as-is-realism, even if it is science-fiction.

Just like I also like how you don't have a HUD, more and more in games.

Just what you see is what you see, etc. :D

I think my version would be more like 'Bioshock' I guess, that's a first-person/fantasy/horror-shooter right? So yeah...

  • Yep, that would be an accurate classification of BioShock's genre. but even BioShock has music, and also in that case it doesn't detract from the experience, but rather serves to heighten the emotion/tension where it's used. But I get what you mean.

  • By the way, there is music in the game then?

I must have missed that, or is it like really subtle that I didn't notice?

Anyway... I think you'd say "no" to this, but do you think it would be OK to turn it off (if possible), since I like realism.

And I mean like "as-is"-realism, in the sense of that I don't want to hear music when I'm a guy in space... :P

I know it's kind of like a film, but still... I don't know, I might try both ways...

  • Given how cinematic the overall experience is, I can honestly say the music doesn't detract from the experience AT ALL. It really is an outstanding score, and does its job well - namely by heightening the tension to almost unbearable levels. :)

  • I still didn't try it, even though I'd like to.

It just annoys me off there is NO DEMO.

So I can first of all know if it even runs, and of course see if I like the feel of the game, before I'm stuck with one that I don't even like to play.

But it's not that expensive anymore, so I might just go with it, if it doesn't run well, I'll wait until I have a better system.

This is definitely also one to just enjoy the looks and sounds of.

While the audio might not be an issue, the graphics need more.

  • Um...there IS a demo. Did you not see my walkthrough of it that I posted the same day as the review??

  • the downside, however, is the demo doesn't really accurately portray the game. It gives you a taste of what it's like to fight the Necromorphs, but really doesn't let you get a feel for the atmosphere and tension that is prevalent throughout the game.

  • Oh... for the PC too then? Not that I can find.

Cause I play games on the PC, I don't have and like consoles, not that I hate them.

But I'd be happy to just try the demo to get a feel for controls and see how the performance is.

Even if it was walking down a corridor, shooting some things and try most features.

Then I'd buy the full game for the full experience. :)

  • Oh, yeah I'm not sure if there's a PC version of the demo. I was talking about the consoles. But if a PC demo was anything like the console demo...you're better off playing the actual game to get a feel for it.

  • Alright. See how that's annoying for us actually...

You know, I think I'll just add it to my next order at Amazon UK as it's barely 8 Pounds there, compared to x2 or even x4 here in The Netherlands.

I doubt it will run very well, but then I can at least try and already have it to play whenever.

    Just had an idea:

It's based on the engine of the 'The Godfather'-game.

If there's a Demo of that, I could try that for the technical side.

But it looks like it doesn't have one either...

  • lol aliens may come and monsters are out there ppl just never believe them the lock ness monster was actually a dinosaur but is belived to have died years ago

  • I don't get scared from movies or tv shows or comics or games, because I know they're not real. I don't get scared at things that I know could never happen. Monsters and aliens aren't going to come so they can't scare you. The scary stuff is the stuff that could really happen. Like a bomb going off and ending the world, a virus that kills just about everyone, or movies where people down in floods. Getting started by something jumping out is not being scared. It's just getting startled.

  • the part that scared me was the part at the start

when you have to run to the elevator.that fucked me up

  • and you're right dead space was really creepy and quite scary, and i'm difficult to scare

  • dead space does have the same controls as resident evil. but i agree with you zaranyzerak.

i also need to watch dead space downfall

  • You might want to watch Part 2 of my review before commenting on the controls...I compare the controls of RE and DS quite extensively.

  • oh, well played sir, well played. by the way, is dead space downfall worth buying cheaply on blu ray?

  • I did jump! :)

  • orange box next lol

  • resident evil has zombies dead space has aliens in it i justed wish i could get ps3 so i can play resident evil 5 and deadspace on it but cant bc i dont have the money for it

  • i love this game

  • imo its the true sequal to system shock 2... alot of similarity and yet they are so different

  • My personal favorite's list of survival/puzzle/shooter/horror games goes like this: #1 Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder #2 Penumbra: Black Plague #3 Penumbra: Overture #4 Siren: Blood Curse #5 Condemned: Criminal Origins #6 Pathologic #7 Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth #8 FEAR: Extraction Point #9 System Shock 2 #10 Clive Barker's: Undying If you truly consider yourself a fan of the genre, you must have these games.
  • i remember when killzone 2 came out..some people said it looks like call of duty..just because it was a fps

  • Don't let the haters get to you. They obviously have not life. I have a life, and we all know that Sean has one. He has kids and a wife for gods sakes. He is just a gamer. Nothing fucking wrong with that! Great review. This game is only 39 bucks plus tax.

  • Dead space isn't scary ! it had those moments but ugh. its not that scary. A game that made me jump was condemned & condemned 2.

  • then u must be jaded XD

  • nah i think that its that i just played it like a shooter i never really thought i was going to get scared. i played in dark rooms & i am a student so i have home work so when ever i played dead space it was around 10 - 12 oclok. I just never thought it was scary it didn't make me kick in those human survival instincts.

  • is this the review part 1 of 41 lol

dead space is my fav game of all time , i wore headphones and was incredible and really scary ,my only critism is the ending , i loved the ending but felt sorry for isaac

  • Totally agree with "getting in the zone" for feeling scared!

It doesn't work if people keep getting distracted and not focused on the screen and getting inside the game/movie/book.

  • That intro was epic with headphones. =P

Even coming from a person who only saw your walk-throughs, but hasn't played the game, (YET!), this game is filled with tension, terror, and a but load of gore. I can't wait to play it.

  • Oh, and yeah, the end made me jump. Damn you... =P

  • haha i jumped at the end lol

  • i wasn't scared..... i was terrified... the game is great

  • STOP TALKING ABOUT DEAD SPACE U GAY LOSSER HOMOFAG LIVS IN MOMS BASMENT VIRGIN FAT...*head explodes*

  • I'm not sure if I should give this a thumbs down or a thumbs up...

  • Good review, I enjoyed myself alot playing Dead Space. It took me about a month to finish, because I would play half a chapter at a time or a whole chapter at the most.

  • i found the game an interesting idea but wasnt totally blown away by it ... it suffered a little from Doom 3 syndrome where it seems that most of the places where monsters jump out at you are only there for that prime purpose , like oh heres a cupboard or room and its only big enough to hold one thing , A MONSTER BOO!

fun but a little predictable in places , with all that said tho its a stellar title and certainly provided enough scary moments and great controls to make it worth a play through

  • Actually, to be honest , I'm glad you're done with the Dead Space stuff. There's so many kickass games you can review bro.

  • YES! finally the dead space review. awesome!

  • I love the argento-like ending! haha

  • Actually the reason I purchased Dead Space was your walkthrough.

I liked watching each video from whatever hotel room I was in at the time on the business trip of the week and decided had to have that game!

Did get some strange looks from people on the train to London once when I was playing it with headphones on!

  • As I have neither an xBox 360 or PS3 due to me refusing to buy one until I have a decent HD TV the version of Dead Space I have is the PC one...

Very good! Your walkthrough has been helpful working through it...

  • damn invincible necromorph....XD lmao

  • Thanks so much Sean, i will deffo pick it up. Keep the awesome reviews coming!!!

  • hey sean you should a god of war game review sometime thats my favortie games of all time

  • i didn't jump. you didn't see sh*t son!

  • Nice, dude!

  • LOL

  • great review and i bought this game cos of your walkthrough, keep doin more game stuff. and dead space won best use of sound award at the BAFTAS

  • Will you be doing a review of Event Horizon?

It's one of my favourite films and is extremely underrated!

  • Excellent review. The motion comics and the DVD really gets you in the mood to play (although not required to enjoy the game). I've played a lot of survival horror games, and I think this one made me jump the most. The screams of the monsters, how the necromancers sneak up from behind and the fact that you have to carefully aim to remove their limbs makes me panic as I'm pushed into a corner with limited ammo. Definitely a game I recommend as well. But be sure to put the volume up!!!

  • is it in 720p or 1080p? I've always wondered why most (but not all) PS3 games seem to have 720 as the top measure of video output. I know Metal Gear 4 is in 1080p but I was just curious because I don't understand why they are only being mastered in 720 vs. 1080. Perhaps I am completely wrong about all this. IDK. Perhaps you can shed some light on this.

  • MGS4 is 720p. It can UPCONVERTED to 1080p but that doesn't mean it's 1080p. There are just a few games that are 1080p.

  • True. A lot of the downloadable games from the PSN Store are 1080p, but they're quite tiny compared to a disc-based game. No idea why most games are 720p, I would think it's simply due to the level of detail, number of objects on screen, etc. that it would be too much for even the PS3 to handle all that data at 1080p resolution.

  • and also to have a solid frame rate, at 60p.This gen you can probably only make a game that's 1080p, if it runs on an incosistent 20p or something like that. And the reason that dowloadable games are sometimes is like you said, they are small. less gameplay, less detail in graphics, etc. What most people think will happen is that the next generation (PS4) is gonna be all 1080p. I think it'll happen in time.

  • Just played through the Wii Prequel "Dead Space Extraction", amazing stuff really recommended if you are a fan of the fiction.

  • I played this on the PC and you know-I don't play a lot of games but every so often one will come along that I can't put down and Dead Space was one of those. I enjoyed your playthrough.

  • first!

sorry, I ever wanted to do that!

    great review, great game

  • Fail

  • sorry. didnt know, that you get a -5!!!!!!

  • Nice Review
