this album was released in 1980 and shot straight to #1........31 years later this is still my favourite album......too bad Gary Numan did not come to Malaysia for a concert.....
Either one understands this song or you don't. The dark metaphores and symbolisms make this not just the best song on the Telekon album, but a classic in surrealistic rock. Party on Gary !
Gary Numan wrote this song? I'm not surprised. I have loved Gary Numan for so long, and as a lover of his music, he is amazing. I used to listened to an experimental rap/singer who used a voice modifier to mask her feminine voice, to sound like a demon, and now I now SHE COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF HIS TRACK. TOTALLY!! THIS IS WHY I LOVED SPORTS SO MUCH. IT WAS ALL A LIE. I LOVE YOU GARY NUMAN FOREVER. YOU ARE SO WEIRD LIKE ME AND YOU LIVE IN MY HEART FOREVER TRANSCENDING TIME AND SPACE!!!!!!
gary numan was part of new wave, but in a subdivision known as techno music or just techno........as he and others like a flock of seagulls and other bands of new wave were using synthetizers to play music.........good enough i am fan of gary numan
@udaraboy keep in mind electonic music or techno from the 80's is not the stuff of today, they more commonly refer to Numan and Flock of seagulls as "synth pop"
@Taud dear taud, must say i had it from someone who bought it ( telekon ) in 1980, so it is not hot stuff coming out of the oven , but it is good enough anytime you hear it and sounds best than many of today pop music " heroes " so i keep being fan of gary until the world stays
on the other hand must check pop music history never known as synth pop, at least in europe must remember states is comercial no like europe where i live. and new wave came after new romanticas and before that punk
@Taud SYNTH POP NEVER EXISTED IN EUROPE LIKE DEVO, S.S.Q., SOFT CELL COULD BE IN THAT " line ". but new wave came after punk , post punk dark wave and new wave with duran.duran, a flock, depeche mode, the cure, moden english, information society, inxs u2 nena, big country, indochine and thousands more to recall, beside rock pop, billy joel, foreigner etc or hard rock with pat benatar or heavy with judas priest, ozzy osbourne etc the history was made not only in america, or mtv bon chance
My favourite along with I dream of wires, Numan was brilliant. Been a fan since I was13, still am, and still listen to his first 4 albums, couldn't live without them.
One of the best albums of my youth...I was sick to death of disco, and top 40 music here in Ohio...This album was DARK...I drove my old GF batty playing it over and over...This was an excellent companion to Replicas and PP...Still sounds as edgy today as back 30 years ago...
this is real pop music... not like the music nowdays..full of shit....replicas/pleasure principle/telekon....should be in the 1000 must listen album before you die...check it out....
It's hard to surmise where he's going lyrically on some of these songs, but the same old mistrust is here, very hypnotic track though, jaded is what he is but not uncaring he mkes time for humour with the line'My dog runs A-WOL, I blame you all',being paranoid is sometimes funny, you're way ahead of the game, even if it's your own.
"The recurring motif you end on reel one was shockingly appropriate to what Martin was going through. The starkness of the music complemented the atmosphere in his room as he beavered away in a successful effort to catch up on his work and a vain effort to put Fiona out of his mind."
Numan takes a big leap in sophistication with the compositions on this album. The use of atonal expressionistic piano flourishes on this song is brilliant. The whole thing is quite ingeniously designed.
Yeah, very crafty. I agree completely, I also like that the track has dieahrd haters and equally devoted lovers, no middle ground.
Such a nicely distinctive recording that contrast well to the entirely different Yellow Magic Orchestra, another group of people (this time from Japan) that most Americans never really cared about.
