It was done by inserting a supermagnet within the golf ball and digging a tunnel from the drop to the hole where a gopher holding another supermagnet ran down the tunnel to make the shot. To assure the golf ball would be dropped near a gopher tunnel, no less than 382 tunnels were installed at this green. Since only one tunnel could actually enter the hole itself (otherwise it would collapse) all tunnels tied into a single tunnel entering the hole, explaining why it "missed" the hole at first.
