the thing about this song, is that its almost a medley with two different things going on - 1 is the party life at the beginning of the song , then it goes into a spiritual vibe. it wasnt even released or completed , it was releases after his death, without his finishing touch, i think he really wanted to connect with a dance floor audience here by the song doesnt pump enough, the vocals are so intense. no matter what, Marvin to me could do no wrong, might give it a remix stay tuned
I am a absolute fierce fan of Marvin Gaye have been since I was 6 or 7 years old in the 60's. When this album came out I loved EVERY song it! So before his time - Love you Marvin <3 RIP
This song is fire!!! I haven't really listened to many songs from this album and I call myself an avid fan. I guess I need to check out the rest of the album
@KrfNYC2 Nah, this is dope, follow the vocal layers they are amazing. You might be missing the whole emotional vibe to the 70's stuff with the Falsetto the wah wahs strings an latin percussion because that stuff was amazing but remeber lets get it on an sexual healing are both from the bottom of his career he just had to reinvent his sound for the times (80's).
@kingofdaundaworld "Sexual Healing" came out in '82 (I think). It was off of his last album released before he died (Midnight Love). Anyway, I like this. Anything Marvin is dope, but I don't really listen to this too much because there's better Marvin material in my opinion.
look at his album cover and us of the those ranks we come from. he tried to get that devil out of him. the learned behavior of the devl over the past 400 years
Bass is by Frank Blair who`s work on this album is amazing ( listen to Funk me ) takes some listening but this eventually became my favorite all time album by Marvin.Dismissed by critics at the time I believe they missed the point.1981 was full of disco where Marvin produced this 25 years ahead of its time ! but that was Marvin an innovator mis-judged by many and way ahead of his time spiritually and musically
ght on....I just commented on this song being my fave on this album on the Life Is For Learning post, an thats saying something, this was the right album at the wrong time (early 80's), though by his own admission Marvin was a bit lost anyhow at this point between label demands his habit personal life an competition he spoke of Teddy P and Prince both in his autobiography, so the whole funky spiritual thing was something he could relate to he was lost connecting spiritually with the music.
the bassline that starts around 2.20 is freaking gr8..and it just goes on ..pure brilliance of 70's music..marvin was such a genius, I'm just 19, i'm just gettin started on soul music...and its freakin gr8..
