  • Powerstation certainly did this song proud- Marc Bolan must've been happy when they revived it!!

  • all talented musicians but the drummer is way more badass than anyone else.

  • Fuckin those drums UP!!

  • Tony Thompson is mean on the drums!

  • @tftka Agreed, he was beating those drums like he hated them

  • Ah 240p, we meet again.

  • Thumbs up if you wanna meytal do a cover of this version of this song

  • I'm pretty sure Andy Taylor wanted to rock and that's why he got out of Duran Duran

  • Props to Tony Thompson (drummer) for keeping his funk tight, while that half naked woman was flaunting her goodies across the screen.

  • saw themm do this on SNL before we even knew it was out

  • Don't forget He was one Hell of A Drummer.....FYI

  • this song just flat out kicks ass!!! its a damn shame robert palmer died :(

  • Damn Andy Taylor can rock that Electric Guitar

  • Amazing drummer

  • Robert was a fine singer but his voice is simply overwhelmed by the awesome guitar playing and drumming.

  • Such a thick, crunchy sound. LOVE it!

  • Awesome cover of the T Rex classic

  • John Taylor was always an awesome bassist and Robert Palmer was just cool. Taylor always kicked ass in Duran Duran, even if they were 'just a pop band'. I play this on bass in our cover band. A big hit with crowds at gigs.

  • I remember this video in a Beavis and Butt-head episode. They said, "there needs to be more toilets in videos.." However, the video description on that one erroneously had the album name as "Electric Warrior." (That was the name of the T Rex ablum the original version of this song was on.)

  • this song is really good, makes you want to bend over a hot babe and bop her a good one.

  • That girl was born a man! His/Her name is Tula.

  • @mboots957 Oh gee whiz. You were right! The "woman" is transsexual model Caroline Cossey aka Tula. I didn't need to know that. I thought you were just kidding. :-(

  • @mboots957 Actually, according to Wikipedia, the Power Station's video for "Some Like it Hot" is the one that features Tula. So presumably, the woman in THIS video was actually BORN a woman...

  • Tommy Thompson, former drummer for Chic, is the driving force behind rock's greatest experiment, The Power Station. Of course, this group could NEVER have been as popular, without the vocal fluidity of Robert Palmer. Sad this collaboration never lived up to its full potential.

  • :44-anyone else see the planes and the World Trades in the background?

  • 3:17 ...Palmer's look at the camera.....like a boss.

  • my band is going to cover this......YEAH!!!!!

  • I jam this in my Porsche 944 on the highway @ 75mph and in town at 35mph, la la LOUD! RIP RP!

  • RIP Robert Palmer and Tony Thompson.

  • this was one of the original supergroups combining members from Genesis, The Monkeys and the Beatles to form one of the best sounds ever to come out of S.African studios... well done...

  • @flycentro123 I'm sorry to inform you, no member of the Beatles or the Monkeys was ever in this band... Were you perhaps responding to another comment about a different band?

  • @Hanamorichan Actually you couldnt be wrong, it was the idea of the band that made the Beatles break up and this song launched the careers of both Phil Collins and Marc Knofler into rock and roll hall of fame history.

  • I think you are referring to "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".

  • @flycentro123 You're pulling my leg, right? These are two guys from Duran Duran, the drummer from Chic, and Robert Palmer. Nobody from the Beatles, Genesis or the Monkees. ......I hope you're just joking.

  • Wikipedia: Power Station was a 1980s supergroup formed late 1984, comprised of singer Robert Palmer, former Chic drummer Tony Thompson, and Duran Duran members John Taylor(bass) and Andy Taylor(guitar). Bernard Edwards, also of Chic, was involved on the studio side as recording producer. On 7/23/83, Duran Duran staged an open air benefit concert at Villa Park, Birmingham, England in front of 18,000 people who paid £8.50 a ticket to raise money for MENCAP, a charity for the UK’s learning disabled

  • I'm from the Bronx & of the 80's era. I was always taken aback by how the Brits took funk & metal & fused it to make it the ONLY hippest! This was an old song that was made to be soooo hip... (tho my Dad likes the original). Welcome to 2012, Daddy:) Love this!!!!

  • Best song EVER!

  • The dance that started at :20 is actually the moment I entered puberty officially...

  • Power Station is for heavy rockers. Robert

    Palmer is for light rockers.

  • For those who were curious, the dancer in this video is Sara Carlson

  • ok Im a geek but the blond in the begining is doing the nightelf dance from world of warcraft no?

  • The planes in front of the WTC is a little creepy.

  • @Timbo12888 No shit, 9/11 is everywhere, year before it ever happened

  • @Timbo12888 wow, i never noticed those planes in 1985 when this came out. This is just weird now.

  • The lady in the video used to be a man

  • OMG... I love this song

  • When the Power Station came out it gave the Duran Duran guys cred as guys who could rock so it helped them a lot

  • Rest in Peace Robert and Tony - I miss you - Burton Michigan USA here Rockin' you out in the House!

  • Totally agree with previous posts, Tony Thompson could really lay down the drums, and totally love John Taylor's bass lines....especially the lil funky bass break.

  • @conallo That reallt funky bassline was actually played by Bernard Edwards from Chic ( a band for whom Tony T played drums for)

  • One of those patented brilliant moments in '80's rock. Palmer adds a calm, cool slickness to what is otherwise a KICK-ASS song.

  • Tony beat the hell out of those drums, one of the best. RIP TT

  • Dance at 0:20 always seemed to me so fucking sexy.

  • @SelenoGomez agreed. sexy as hell. anyone know who she is?

it also looks like they used her moves to animate the dancer in their other video for Some Like It Hot

  • @MrHantz101 "Her" name is Tula. She's a he. Or was... apparently, some original equipment has been deleted.

  • @SelenoGomez I agree, the dancer in this video is Sara Carlson. BTW

  • Killer drummer...

  • When this song came out, it was a great song for the time.

  • Typically I'm a "Metal,Punk" described music fan, but I've got to say that this is truly one of the best songs of it's era. You got to believe that "what's his name?" ..ya Mr. Taylor does play one of the greatest cover riffs in rock music in this song..period. It's great and I'm a fan like it or not "Metal Guys '

  • One of the kickenest but, in your face songs you can ever know....It does rock.

  • Get it on, pass the bong...GET IT ON!

  • This video features the 1st transexual in a major video.

  • This video features the 1st "ts"l in a major video.

  • I miss Robert Palmer, what a classy SOB

  • @AlisoViejoMan No kidding, huh? How many front-man rock stars (and he was certainly one of those) wear friggin' suits and ties on stage? He was only 52 when he died...way too young.

  • @jjp009 Amazing, right? I met him once and I swear he was about 5'4. So handsome though.

  • @mikeymolly1 I bet he was a total gentlemen when you met him, huh? Took a picture with you, signed an autograph?

  • @jjp009 I didn't ask for either of those things. That's pretty cheesy. This was back in the 90's right before his show. I shook his hand, period.

  • @mikeymolly1 Oh, I thought you meant you saw in the street or somewhere. Yeah, I guess I wouldn't ask for pictures or signatures, either. Especially today, I think all celebs think you're gonna sell it on Ebay.

  • 'Power'ful;

  • I love the vibrant bright colors of this video.one of my all time favs go robert and tony. Like if you seen them live. tell me when and where( year ,place, for what purpose) id love to hear your story.thanks-

    _Selena S.t.i.n.g.

  • tony thompson..badass drummer

  • i usually dont like remakes - but i like this one

  • Every person in this group had power behind their art. Robert didn't scream but his voice was so powerful, Bass, drums and the guitars all just made you move.

  • Robert Palmer (heart attack) and Tony Thompson (kidney cancer) died within 2 months of each oher in 2003.

  • i wish i was either caroline cossey or the woman with the wedge-cut hairstyle silloueted in white who was a background dancer in the video.

  • RIP Tony, you thrashed!!!

  • LOVE this song since it came out....never saw the corny video 'till today though...wow

  • Yeah, she was a Bond girl! If I remember right, the whole thing came out after she appeared in the Bond movie "For Your Eyes Only" in 1981 and also posed for Playboy that year.

  • A truly great supergroup from the 80's! their blend of rock, funk, and pop was innovative, and its historical importance in music is largely ignored. ROCK ON!!

  • Great song!!!!

  • Just a fun fact: the woman in the video is played by Tula, an English transsexual model. She also appeared in the Bond movie "For Your Eyes Only"

  • @Wlodarek Her hands and feet do look kind of manly...

  • @Wlodarek I thought she was a Bond girl..

  • Just a fun fact: the woman in the video is played by Tula, an English transsexual model.

  • @juliettelamuria yeah unfortunately Robert Palmer died of a heart attack and Tony Thompson died of a rare disease, i'll have to look it up again. RP died a couple years back as a TT

  • Am I the only that sees the twin towers with planes going towards them

  • @CrashmagnetMusic Someone else I know said the same thing, but I don't see what you two are seeing!

  • Good band! Too bad they didnt stick together.

  • R.I.P. Robert Palmer, R.I.P. Tony Thompson... great voice and a great drummer, ...wiki/Tony_Thompson

  • not too big on somebody else redoing an original, I like to describe it as crime, yeah people do it but not everybody can get away with it and if U do eventually you'll make a mistake however in this case, Power Station did it justice, take it up a few clicks, shout out to T-Rex, who did the original. Another is Fly Like An Eagle, Steve Miller Band's was awesome but did give it justice.

  • I THINK THIS COVER KICKS FUCKING ASS !!!! THE DRUMS SOUND LIKE A PUNCH RIGHT IN YOUR FACE !!! SWEET !!!

  • I wish NBC or Hulu would put up the Saturday Night Live performance of these guys from 1985. It was the only time they performed the song live with Robert Palmer singing. Any other time, it was Michael des Barres.

  • this is a terible cover

  • @redfenderguy I completely disagree.

  • My first concert EVER... at the Hollywood Sportatorium (what a #$%hole that place was..). But I thought it was the greatest thing at the time :)

  • that guy, tony thompson, i think could really crank it on the drums!

  • @jeffreyconn dude played so cool, almost effortlessly, know what I mean. I used to have to 5 foot tall speakers in the basement right behind my drums and I used to crank this sh!t LOUD, good song to jam to

  • @jeffreyconn no shit

  • @jeffreyconn damn right! he was the POWER!

  • @jeffreyconn Yeah the TT and JT rhythm section really lays it down in this jam.

  • @jeffreyconn hell ya he could.

  • @jeffreyconn Yeah, that's true, Tony T really could beat those skins

  • Awesome song! I remember my older sister got me hooked on 80s music. I have to point out though. I think its kind of crazy seeing their guitar player rocking out with the twin towers in the background while planes in the air. I know the video was made long before 911 and i am not bashing the video, I just think its crazy thats all. This song and video are a true classic!

  • why is it everytime that theres a music video or movie featuring the twin towers in it,someone always has to bring up the 911 scenario
