To see the full film, 'The Keep', please see 'Under the Spell of the Fasces pt.19 The Keep'; the entire series deals with Nazi zombification techniques (Muselmanner) ...
Great movie! loved it for years since i was 14 back in 95 when i was renting horror movies, loved the score and everything including being one of the most underrated supernatural horror-fantasy flicks ever and one of the best underrated vampire movies of the 80's. Lionsgate should team with Paramount to have this on Blu-Ray and DVD.
This movie is awesome, the scenes and the music are breathtaking and amazing. It should be way more popular than it is. I think it is alot better than movies out today. Hopefully with all this positive publicity Paramount will release it on DVD. I can't wait. Its been a long 25 years-thanks to all for putting it on youtube.
Apparently Mann has restored his 3 hour cut and screening it recently at a European Film Festival. Hopefully it will get a theatrical re-release and almost certainly a DVD release. Perhaps desire to restore his version is the release it has never been released on DVD until now. It's just a matter of time but its way overdue. Mr. Mann please strike up new prints and put it theatres again! I could die a happy man.
I agree as well. Most movies aren't as good as the books on which they are based, This one was pretty weak. When the cast included Ian McKellen, Gabriel Byrne, Jurgen Prochnow, Robert Prosky, and Scott Glenn, you would think the film couldn't miss - and you'd be wrong. It would be interesting to see what current special effects would do to the story.
Have both read book and seen film and while I prefer the book, I did like the movie. It became less convincing towards the latter stages, while the high point in my opinion was the work on the sets ... extremely eerie building, that keep!
Wasn't as keen on the depiction of the bad guy ... loved the cavern though!
Its been a while since I've seen and/or read it, this is making me keen for a revisit!
go to italianhorror.blogspot to get the soundtrack. just scroll through the blog and you will find two versions of the soundtrack!! i can't post the URL so if you have trouble, google the blog and you should find it.
Damn, i loved this movie. I remember having this on VHS. I need to get this movie on DVD. Another cool movie from the 80's was "The Quiet Earth"from 1985. I highly recomend this movie. Its on DVD in a nice collectors tin.
I had the pleasure of actually seeing the Keep external sets, which were filmed in a quarry in WALES, UK. You willno longer find it as it is a flooded lake.
Now you can say you know 4 people who have heard of it. I read the book when I was a teen and then when the movie came out, I had to go see it. Damn, I only saw it once when it first came out. The book was much better and it kept me at the edge of my seat. The movie was great though. I don't remember much about it, but I know that I liked it.
I was able to record the Netflix film using Applian Video Capture - Beautiful print - now to dvd it!

@Johnlindsey289 I agree. If they could do it for the My Bloody Valentine director's cut then they could certainly do it for this movie as well.

And I love Gabriel Byrne in this film, he did an awesome job portaying the role of The SS office Major Kaempffer. I actually hated it when he died.

I correspond with F. Paul Wilson who wrote the book-he think the film version is pretty lame. For the most part I fully agree!!

Well that's yours and his opinion but you can only blame the studios who fired Mann from the editing room, then cut large amounts from the movie.
