  • Honda has v-tec and bmw has double vanos both are variable valve system depending of the rpm engine.

  • I'm not sure what Frankenmotor I got when I bought my integra, but the bottom half of my motor has b20 on it, and I know that's not vtec. How do I know what the top half is?

  • Your bottom end is a 2.0L then if it says B20 so chances are your top end will be a B20

  • Dude, what? I had to read that 4 times just to make sure I read that bullshit right. VTEC does NOT add power. It is purely for economical purposes. It runs a separate set of cam-shaft lobes for the low-rpm range and engages a different set for high-rpm performance and engaged at a specified RPM. You don't "add power" with it. Don't believe me? Read the specs yourself:

    It dumbs-down the car's performance at low rpm for mileage, that's it. No new power there.

  • Ok, what you said was right in one way but wrong in another. The whole point in VTEC is to be economical at lower rpm but have performance at higher rpm. So actually vtec does add power at higher rpm because the intake valves open further, therefore letting more air in, increasing air/fuel ratio and increasing engine power. A conventional 2litre petrol engine produces approx 135bhp; a 2litre VTEC (K20A) produces 200bhp; thats a lot more power!

  • @HalfBreedMix I think their jealousy comes from the fact that we Honda guys can extract HUGE amounts of power out of a VERY small engine. While maintaining 30 miles per gallon. Even a stock CTR or ITR motor makes the same power a Camaro engine did not ten years before( IROC anyone?) To get the same amount of power out of a muscle car requires a HUGE loss in fuel economy and everyday driveability.
