We just finished watching this documentary in Behavioral Studies. It's unbelievable that something like this happened in reality, yet it makes sense. They followed him like he was always going to love them and be a god. I guess it was the times, which were desperate enough. People would listen to anyone who promised hope, health and peace. Soon he was their leader, some were too emotionally invested to stop the things he did. It takes a smart, persuasive and very EVIL man to do this to people.

It's sad and scary that about a thousand people lost their earthly life because they followed this false teacher, who was their "father", their "only", and their god. But it is just as sad and just as scary that so many more will reject eternal life because they'll watch or hear of Jonestown and think somehow it is compatible with Christianity, or that somehow Jim Jones represented Jesus Christ and His gospel.
If you want to know God and Christ, then read His Word, the Bible.

What's more, at least the People's Temple didn't discriminate by race. Most other Christian sub-groups, especially the two main ones, Catholic and Protestant, did. How "Godly" is a racist faith. It's that what disgusts me and stops me being a Christian regardless of how much faith I may or may not have in a higher being.

@raquelborn The original gospel and epistle manuscripts were written by the apostles and disciples, direct copies were made of these probably for safety and distribution purposes, and they were translated from the manuscripts into English. Just as legitimate and historically supported, if not more so, as any other historical document.
It doesn't work like Chinese whispers mate; watch this video if you don't understand what I mean.

To say that the Catholic and Protestant Christian "subgroups" are discriminatory by race would mean that all Christians are reacists... That's obviously not true, by practice or by doctrine.
Christianity isn't a racist faith and I'll PM the Scripture to you to support that, namely Romans 3:22-24 and Galatians 2:6.

Religion teaches people that live is worthless, and that the real eternal life begins in heaven (it says so right there in the bible), and thats exactly what Jim Jones was teaching those people so don't try and put your head in the sand like that. True; it does take a very twisted mind to come up with something like that, but religion walks a fine line between brainwashing people and actually helping them.

We just finished watching this documentary in Behavioral Studies. It's unbelievable that something like this happened in reality, yet it makes sense. They followed him like he was always going to love them and be a god. I guess it was the times, which were desperate enough. People would listen to anyone who promised hope, health and peace. Soon he was their leader, some were too emotionally invested to stop the things he did. It takes a smart, persuasive and very EVIL man to do this to people.
