Hi Fotojensen, thank you for looking. Your comment is valued and we reply as follows in 2 parts. The fry are at the narrow ends of the tanks feeding on Brine shrimp. After feeding they can by choice swim off to other areas of the tanks. Every 4 weeks the fry in each tank are split into two fresh tanks giving double the water capacity. This allows us to fully clean and maintain the systems and ensure the fry are kept in the best of health.
This video was filmed mid 2010, and the fry have grown into nice little fish. They will be seen in videos due to be filmed later this year. You can see about 30 of them in our video "Fish Pond, with 12 month old goldfish"!
Hi ELMERSARCENO, thanks for looking. What's "a dead fry". In the film you see the fry gathered at the front ends of the tanks as they are feeding on Brine shrimp. When they are spread out just swimming about any fry that is ill can easily be spotted. On these fry tank systems the loss rate is almost zero because the feeding methods and waste removal systems maintain the water quality and fry health to a very high standard
Hi Nutto666, thanks for looking. In our video "Goldfish fry at 11 days old" you can see in the tank 2 black filters that are suspended from pipes. These filters constantly draw water from the tanks to support tanks where the water quality control and waste removal takes place. In our video "Goldfish fry at 60 days, 12500+ in 4 tanks" you can see water running off the tanks glass strengthening plates into the tanks. This is a mix of returning filtered water and fresh water entering the system.
Hi montyalgr, thanks for looking. The water level is set by two factors, if the filtration systems suffer a failure the tanks will not overflow, thus loss of fish, and there are two glass strips on the long sides of the tanks to give better strength to the tank that are used to support equipment to control the automatic replacement of the water. The systems work well as the fish all grow and are very healthy.
In addition you must remember these are fry, and were spawned in 5 to 6 inches of water. The systems water levels are raised over several months. The original height as seen in the video "Goldfish fry at 11 days old" is well below the thermometers rubber sucker where as 41 days later the level is above the sucker!
Hi tisimo123, thank you for looking and passing on your comment. As we have previously stated these fry are in the best of health and have grown into lively healthy little fish. We take pride in our high standards of care that are proven by our exceptional results.
High again minicrazy100, as yet we have not sold any of the fish we have produced. These fry were part of a test program, spawning batch 1 of 10 to ensure we were able to produce the best quality fish with minimal losses providing a controlled healthy environment for them to grow in. We are pleased to say we got it right the first time and are using the data in the design of the fishery due to open some time 2013.
Hi minicrazy100, thanks for looking. When I was a youngster my father kept tropical fish and we ended up breeding them in our garage. We only had half a dozen tanks but it was interesting and a good education. I always wanted to take up the hobby in later life but never got round to it as I was always away on business. After moving to Scotland my girlfriend inherited a few goldfish, several looked good for breeding from so we set up a small breeding facility. We have never looked back!
Hi Finny1314, thanks for looking. We don't breed fish to become feeder fish. They are all growing well, between 40 and 55 mm long and happy little fish. About 30 of them are in our video "Fish Pond with 12 month old goldfish" we filmed spring 2011. You will be able to see many of them in various videos to be filmed later 2012.
@Finny1314 They do say on some of the comments that the fish are at the end of the tanks as they are feeding. If you look you can see that the fry are as they say all at the end by choice :)
Hi Finny1314 Thank you for looking and posting your dislike for this films content. Your opinion is valued and we comment as follows. The films show the narrow ends of the tanks and the fry were feeding on brine shrimp, thus they were all at the ends of the tanks. Regarding your comment (cramped up in small tanks) these fry were in 2 mm diameter eggs 52 days ago and are growing as a result of the space afforded to them by the tanks! 20 months on they are all very healthy little fish!
Hi Finny1314, we passed on your comments to the fish from this video and they commented as follows; 4367 said “thank you”, 2419 said "that’s nice”, and 5794 said “whats for tea”? Looks like we have 5794 males and 6786 females in that batch!
Hi DamjanGomez, we are sorry to say we don't yet breed Angelfish. We have looked at breeding them in the future but they are well down the list at present.
Hi jiahnejiahne. Thanks for looking and welcome to YouTube. Also can we say well done for your first video. At FishGuysUK we take pride in our fish breeding and like to attain the highest quality of fish. We think that you can only achieve this by having healthy happy fish to breed from and the quality of the fry is maintained by treating them to the same high standards of care.
Hi PTHinata2606, thanks for looking. They are doing very well thanks, and are now between 40 to 55mm long. About 30 of them are in our video "Fish Pond, with 12 month old goldfish" filmed spring 2011. They will appear again later this year in some films planned to be uploaded summer 2012.
Hi PTHinata2606, we have both planned and in production over 50 videos showing fish spawning and the various stages of fry development through to adult fish. Also we will be showing the production of brine shrimp, microworms and other food products. We will feature the new breeding facility, planned to be complete some time in 2013.
Hi yeelthao, thanks for looking. As a rule we don't breed off Common Goldfish or Comets that are less than 3 years old and with a body length less than 5". If we purchase fish for breeding we will keep them in our system for 12 months to build up health and strength before they enter a breeding programme. Often they display their sex and start chasing each other at about 2 years old but we say for the best results ages 3 to 6 and after that it depends on the health of the fish.
Hi ThePlakatfighter, thanks for looking. Could you please send us via a YouTube private message, your personal e-mail address and we can send you some information.
Hi 95mnbvcxz95, thanks for looking. As you can see with our comments for this film and on some of our other films this was not the number of fry we planned for, in fact well over the normal quantity for one spawning. But, on the up side it did give us a chance to gain new skills, develop our filtration systems and improve our brine shrimp, microworm and dry food production.
I think some people are under the illusion that breeding goldfish is easy....it ain't. I have tried and lost all mine except two. Also, not being able to put a filter in the tank doesn't help, I had to keep taking them out and putting them in another tank then putting them back ...that's why I only have two left lol....it was my first time.
Hi braska19, many thanks for looking and posting your comment. Your correct, it can be difficult, after all, your playing with nature! The fry in these videos are from one spawning. We planned on 3,500 fry with 50% loss in the first 3 months (a fairly standard result). This spawning produced over 15,000 fry with about a 20% loss in the first 3 months! This threw out our tank capacity plans and we had to revise the filtration systems to cope with daily filter changes.
Hi boxstermanT15, thanks for looking. As stated on some of our other films the tanks are stripped and cleaned every 4 weeks. When this is done we split the fish in to twice the number of tanks, i.e they are in four tanks in this film, just after filming they were split into eight tanks. Also note that you see only the ends of the tanks and if you go near the tanks the fish swim to the front in the hope you are going to feed them some baby brine shrimp, just as they are eating in the film.
Hi boxstermanT15, thanks for looking.
Looks to me like the ends of the tanks and the fish are all at the front end for feeding, leaving most of the tank empty! They do say they have very good filtration systems on their tanks. They must have as they all look very healthy!
Hi AquaPuppies, thanks for looking. Yes, we have many more films. These original films were not made to put on YouTube, and are of poor quality. We decided to purchase some decent film equipment and make a series of films covering selection of fish for breeding, the spawning process, microworms, microworms breeding, brine shrimp and the many stages of growing fry to adult fish. Due to family commitments they are some months away but are in production!
Hi Ugrin86, thanks for looking. We hatch quality BBS, 10 to 20 liters per day with about 1.5 million shrimp per liter. We also produce microworm by the liter, and different grades of flake food for fry to adult fish. We also produce other types of feeds. We feed BBS to all the tank fish until they are 6 to 8 inches in body length. This keeps them in the best possible condition!
Overporpulated is a weak work here, please give them some more space.
