Please does any one know where I can buy the sheet music for this Sonata I am quite litrally obsessed with this peice and I really would love to learn to play if fro myself.
I have been searching for months both on line and in every shop I find and so far no joy. I would be estaticly happy if some one would be able to hwlp me.
SEIXAS, Carlos - 80 sonatas para instrumentos de tecla. Transcr. de Macario Santiago Kastner. Lisboa: Fund. Calouste Gulbenkian, 1965. (Col. Portugaliae musica Série A ; 10).
25 sonatas para instrumentos de tecla. Transcr. de Macario Santiago Kastner e João Valeriano. Lisboa : Fund. Calouste Gulbenkian, 1980. (Col. Portugaliae musica Série A ; 34)
You also can find the original manuscripts online in Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal website.
What remains of Carlos Seixas' work can be found at Biblioteca Geral of the University of Coimbra, Biblioteca of Ajuda and the Portuguese National Library, in Lisbon, in Portugal.
Most of his pieces were lost during the Lisbon earthquake and tsunami of 1755 still his music is still studied by harpsichordists at least in Portugal that i know of.
@Viahandel06 well it seems to make to make no sense but I personally believe that the nationality unfortunately does contributes or conditions ones success or acknowledgment before others. Scarlatti was at Portugal teaching music to the daughter of the king at the time Seixas was organist at the Chapel of the Patriarchal See in Lisbon, Domenico was tasked by the king to give Seixas some music lessons to which Scarlatti answered that he should be the one learning from Seixas.
I have been searching and searching for the sheet music for this for about a year both on the internet and in shops. Does anyone have and idea on where I might be able to purchace this?
It is a shame that most of his pieces were destroyed in an earthquake: he might have been as well-known as Scarlatti--who by the way suggested that he receive lessons from Seixas. This piece is beautifully performed and embodies the passion, power, and grace that is the Harpsichord. Maxwell Garrison, 14
Hey, wow, you're goddam right!!! My compliments! Great idea, wonderful connection! What about having this composition performed by a nowadays Heavy Metal band? Just for the fun of it! Cheers ;-)

I'm starting to really like Carlos Seixas XD XD
Why isn't he as well known as Bach, Handel, even D. Scarlatti (a student of Carlos), Rameau, or even Couperin?

@SagothBaal So how come even the well know period ensembles like Europa Galante or Il Giardino Armonico never performed his music?
\
Viahandel06 1 year ago
@Viahandel06 Because he is Portuguese. if he was Italian on German the certainly would play his music
SagothBaal 10 months ago
@SagothBaal But that doesn't make sense...well not to a lover of baroque music like myself. Do you think there are hidden gems like around Europe?
