So many of the early musicals were all Technicolor and only remain in black and white. After seeing this eye-popping number it makes me wonder how much better remembered these early films would be if the Technicolor still existed.
The lead in 42nd Street was originally offered to the male singer here, Nick Lucas. When he turned it down Warner Brothers offered the lead to Dick Powell. It makes you wonder how film history would have been changed had Mr. Lucas accepted.
Myrna Loy played Asian character parts before her break in the "Thin Man" series. The color is absolutely breathtakeing for the period. This was a Vitaphone - Sound on Disc synchronised with the film. The fidelity is remarkable too for 1929.

I had forgotten that Myrna Loy was a dancer in her younger days. Charming, charming politically incorrect musical number! Very chinoserie!
