No such thing as Spirit my young brainwashed Ultimate player, don't get confused, good sportmanship is the name your looking for, it goes for all sports when refs are not present. This is not Polo people, spike the disc, and don't worry about these sensative people.
sure, spike the disc if you want a warped piece of plastic flopping though the air next time you throw. I really don't have much against spiking if you make it to nationals like michigan did and score a huge point in a tight game, but if you're a crappy little team who has trouble completely 3-4 passes, hold off on the spikes until you have reason to. It's just not cool.
Not everybody spikes really freakin' hard. I mean, when you score a point, and you're way way way behind, you want some way to show that you're excited. Spike it. Dance around it. It's all good. I'm not saying Hammer the disc at the ground, that's just stupid and really disrespectful.
Yeah no kidding. It's blowing up big here in Northern California. We're trying to get enough people around the Bay Area to get some sort of league going on. GREAT VID!! Anyone who plays the game knows exactly how that feels to jump in the air and have two people land right on top of you! I cringe at the sight!!
Nice video. This is a great way to get myself pumped for the start of the spring/summer season here in Toronto. I have never played before and am looking forward to it!
I love ultimate... but what i hate is how you always have to have perfect spirit, let teams celebrate after a point or a great play! For all I care we can get rid of the games or songs at the end of the game those are just retarded and a waste of time... another thing is spirit points... who wants to play a hammer point in the semis at state championships NOT ME! But yea thats my 2 cents
Number five in their region. guess they'd have to be. Oh and as to the disc spiking: get over it. There are times when frustration will cause you to get in people's faces the best you can. either way it's all in good fun. There is still the spirit of the game involved. Try it out and you'll enjoy it too.
As ultimate becomes a more mainstream competitive sport, Ultimate is naturally going to lose some of it's "feel-good" atmosphere that it has had in the past - self officiating, songs after games, low volume intensity.
I do understand your point, I think it's a dick move to do endzone dances in football as much as it is spiking the disc, but it isn't looked down on in the NFL and it's something that you have to live with in competitive ultimate.
spiking the disc is when you score a point and whip the disc into the ground (or sometimes air)... it's considered really bad spirit, as it rubs it into the other teams face

Forget that, disc spiking is rowdy and completes a great play!

but why does the fact that it's not looked down on the NFL mean that we should 'live with it'
different sport, different ethos, fewer highly paid(!) fools [some are not, I'm aware, before anyone burns me]
