  • That's an oh crap moment if i ever saw one

  • I wonder what would happen if the John Simms Master ever met Gene Hunt...

  • John Simms my best actor ever after Life on Mars

  • If I did The Smurfs I would have Simm play Gargamel.

  • I know I've managed to miss the argument completely, but if you pay attention to the doctor's incarnations, they are almost entirely different from one another

  • Well, that's it. We're dead.

  • More than brilliant............

  • Compared to Anthony Ainley he's utter shite. What I mean is the character of The Master is shite compared to Anthony Ainley's day. The producers of Dr Who have made the master totally over the top. When Anthony Ainley played him he was played in a far more serious, adult way. He was cunning, nasty, devious.

  • @flares I don't see any problem. Like the Doctor, he should change with every incarnation. Also, it was revealed that the Master was becoming more and more insane due to the sound of the drums.

  • @evilemperordude Drums?. What drums?. Yes, I know he should change but not his whole personality. There's different ways of being a baddie. I think playing it in a very cold hearted, more adult kind of way is much more scary than playing it in a very silly hyper kind of way. To be honest I think the whole show has gone downhill since the days of Tom Baker and Peter Davison.

  • @flares Really? I feel like I'd be much more afraid of a manic ten-year-old with a machine gun and no sense of reality or wrong V right than a thirty-year-old with no emotions whatsoever and a machine gun. Emotionless people think rationally, manic ten-year-olds... not so much.

Besides, there needs to be something in the Master you can connect to. He's not just a bad guy- he's tormented and he did, at one point, have happiness in his life. You can see that with Simm- you can't with Ainley.

  • @GregifyMe You say emotionless people think rationally. EXACTLY. Which means they are far more cold and caculating and more sinister to watch than some twat running around like a little kid who suffers from ADHD disorder. It's just pathetic to watch. Unfortunately we live in times when programme makers think everything's got to be at 100mph or aimed at kids. Basically silly. It also shows how adulthood has immatured over the years - the very fact that some adults prefer Simms Master to Ainley's.

  • @flares Or, alternatively, it shows his furthering insanity as a result of the drums. Randomly looking at people and saying "Guess what? For my enjoyment, you get to die now!" trumps "far more cold and calculating and more sinister" any day in my book. I'm not saying Ainley (or that his version of the Master) is bad, but it's not nearly as scary to have a rational person who can make decisions in a rational manner as it is to have someone acting on a whim. Unpredictable people are scary people.

  • @GregifyMe If a person says in a very cold, emotionless way, with horrible piercing eyes - "guess what, for my enjoyment you're going to die now", THAT is far more scary than someone jumping around like a hyperactive dick. It's all down to personall taste. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

  • @flares This is a comedy show parodizing terrible clichés like that. Who would take David Tennant's face seriously at the end of this clip?

  • @flares I'm sorry but I disagree, with the exception of his final story Anthony Ainley was an absolute ham. A brilliant ham, certainly, but a ham nontheless.

  • @TheThing88 Whatever you think about him he was a lot better than John Simm

  • Sure the master is carzy but still dam hot!!! :D

  • this master is nutty

  • John's hot.

  • he's da bomb as the master

  • End of the universe, have fun, bye bye!

  • John Simm is an excellent actor, and when I heard he was going to play the Master I knew it would be great.

  • I loved John Simms as the Master :-D absolutely brilliant, I hope he comes back in the future series

  • wimp alert - The Doctor's saying 'sorry' again. Other than that - excellent. Seems Murray Gold's got better too, even if it does sound like Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

  • But hes not saying sorry for not calling him the master. Hes saying sorry for all thats happened to the timelord race.

  • He is going to be the best Master ever!
