@mithradatesi: first of all, armenians were never 'zorostrianists' they were pagan who believed in the sun god 'ar' ! In armenian 'arev' means 'sun' ar for arev. They never worshipped ahura mazda ! Even today theres pagans in armenia who carry these 3000 year old traditions. They were pagans who worshipped the sun, nature, etc. but not directly ahura mazda. It's sad that arabs had to introduce iran to islam, thats what fucked up a beautiful culture.
@Mithradatesi believe me, but Aramazd is distinct to Armenians, Zoroasters origins was no evident, it never says he was persian, but he was a prophet to the persian people. Aryans come from the Armenian highland strictly, and thats where colonization of Aryan people world wide occurred, to Greece, Persia, India, and western Europe.
armenians are definitely brothers with ancient iranians, thats for sure, todays not so much a lot of mixing, even with the armenians, but its all good.
Aramazd was a syncretic deity, a combination of the autochthonous Urartian legendary figure Ara and the Iranic Ahura Mazda. The celebration in his honor was called Amanor, or New Year, which was celebrated on March 21 in the old Armenian calendar identical to the Iranic New Year (also the Spring equinox).
Armenians were from the beginning a mix of the
invading Aryan Armen ( Aryan = Indo-Iranian) Tribes with the original Urartuans.
@Mithradatesi yes for the most part you are right, AR-mens however were not indo-iranian, dont be miss guided. the first time the word "Armen" was mentioned in history was in 2300 B.C. by the Akkadians, they went to war with the "Armens"
on the contrary im not being egotistical of big headed, but realistic by my readings, not what so pseudo historians wrote
read the english authors book "Armenian Origins of the Etruscans" by robert ellis, it will all become clear to you.
@Mithradatesi Urartu was not a single ethnic empire, it was a tribal union of many tribes. Armens one of them! Ara the beautiful, Aram (our legendary forefather son of Haik) or even Arame the first king of Urartu were all of Armenian ethnicity. Armenian presence in the region is much older than some might have you believe. For instance the split of Armenian language from the IE happened 7000bc. So if Armenian split from other tribes to "invade" Anatolia/Caucasus it happened about that time.
@PeopleOfAr spot on Urartu was a confederation and a union of of different tribes, three distinctively actually The Armens, the Haiks, and the Nairi.
there is no proof of the Armens being invaders, the earliest inscription of the Armens was 2300 B.C. wen the Akkadians went to war with them across the euphrates. The Hayks even earlier, the Hayksos of egypt have their origins from Armenia, ever thought why Semetic egyptian kinds had Blue eyes, and were aryan looking particularly from hyksos.
@PeopleOfAr seccondly, they clustered together to from one language, the Haiks i believe spoke Caucasian, and the Armens spoke indo-european and arguable the oldest indo-european language to date. hence why in the Armenian language we have a few non indo-european words from the Haiks, such as "xntzor" meaning apple. etc etc
i'll call it lucky, but we as Armenians today are damn lucky that we had two extremely ancient peoples intermarry in one union
@Mithradatesi Secondly some emperors called Urartu Armenia, while others Urartu in the same period. Meaning Urartu is not distinct from Armenia it is the same kingdom (Ararat) united with multiple tribes and speaking multiple languages. Third there were earlier kingdoms of Armenian ethnicity before Urartu, like Hayasa. As you might know Armenians still call themselves Hay and their country Hayastan! This notion of Armenians being invaders and a mix of (unrelated) Urartians does not hold water.
@PeopleOfAr last but not least, this isnt to say that todays Armenian population is heavily mixed with outsiders.
the real ancient Armenian look, is white blond hair blue eye or green, as well southern european and dominant strong caucasian looks with a interesting prominent nose
the semetic featues such as being short, too too dark, and having a 6 shaped nose is alien to Armenians, and was assimilated by arab invaders, and unfortunately King Tigranes' placement of Jewish slaves in van.
@ZeeGooner I don't know I am not convince of the difference between Hay and Armen. What is evidence that they were distinct? According to our own ancient historians Haik was our patron forefather the leader of our tribe and Aram was his son. So there is no difference between those two.I also don't believe in Armenian foreign origin theory. As long as it has been recorded Armenians are recorded in the Armenian Highland. If we ever came from other places it must have been before could be recorded.
@PeopleOfAr agreed, we have always been recorded in the Armenian highland definitely. both armens and hayks, again i say this because my own theory is the armens specifically made two huge migrations, one to western europe, greece, thrace, so on and forth, and formed tribes especially in the greek world, then came back and re-colonized their place of origin Armenian Highland.
@ZeeGooner Also I am not fond of this whole Aryan nonsense. What does it mean anyway? That we are or ought to be blond with blue eyes? I disagree! If I look at historical pictures even the shape of Tigrans head on the coins before even the both of Christ I can clearly see typical Armenian features. Somewhere in-between Europeans and Asians. Sure we have light skinned people I am actually Hamshen we are known to be lighter, but I still have black hear and brown eyes and am very proud of it.
@PeopleOfAr again read before, tigranes' coins differ some looked european, some even surprisingly semetic, probably depending on the constructor of the coin, remember the people who smelted the coins probably never saw tigran so they used an image of what people generally in those regions would have looked like. Thats why Tigrans coins differ, some look western european, some look even semetic. we probably got our occupants to do that work, especially the semites, hence why he looked like that
@ZeeGooner I don’t care much for skin color as I deem it a silly property to focus on. Skin color has to do with pigmentation and defense against sunlight. Naturally the hotter place people live the more pigmentation they show. Otherwise they would not be protected by suns radiation and obviously die sooner have less offspring and get extinct if they live in a sunny country! I don’t believe Armenians are Nordic or something like that.
@PeopleOfAr again, Armenians generally today are not nordic, however you can definitely find nordic types in Armenians, my family in particular has many nordic features, especially from dads side, and we are all fully armenian.
original armenians, were two types, Caucasian types, which means darker sort of like mycenaean greeks who were dark, and the armens who were nordic, and the birth child for aryans and western europeans, they intermingled and formed Urartu
@PeopleOfAr definitely, ive seen armenians who are far too dark, have curved noses, having a big nose isnt alien to us, its actually prominent in all aryans, when it is curved and sloops down that is a semetic trait, also shape of the skull etc etc
we have been mixed, not entirely, but a large portion. however many historic armenians exist, those unique big captivating eyes, nice prominent noses etc etc.
@ZeeGooner I see what you're getting at, but I'm not that into race etc... because it's a very slippery slope to racism. Genetic research has mixed results and eventually anthropology does not even distinguish human races (not because it's a taboo) but because people are so much alike that those few differences are really neglectable considering everything.
@ZeeGooner I am not judging anyone cause I don't know what your views are, but I am not really into race, I'm much more fascinated and concerned with culture. Particularly our culture and the way we carried it through millennia and through so much turmoil against all odds. Because eventually it's not our dna that makes us Armenians (sure it's a part but) it is more so our culture!
@PeopleOfAr yes definitely i am in love with culture more than anything. and i am not just saying this because i am armenian, but i truthfully without any bias, am convinced we have one of the most beautiful cultures on earth.
i also love the japanese, greek, georgian ( which is subconsciously heavily influenced by armenian) ancient slavic, irish, and assyrian.
i have studies african cultures, some of them are interesting and folk songs are nice too, but nothing that really intrigues me
@ZeeGooner to add true persian culture as well, as in ancient persian. in fact i can say that some things in persian culture, are easily more beautiful than armenian, and some things in armenian are easily more beautiful than persian its very stupid to rank culture, but we are humans, what more do you expect here it goes 1.___ 2. Armenian/persian ranked the same 3.Japanese 4.Georgian 5. Greek 6. Irish 7.Slavic 8.Assyrian
@ZeeGooner You know amongst Turks there are many genetic Armenians who lost their culture and thus their ethnicity. If my ancestors who are from Trabzond would convert to Islam we would never be prosecuted, but as a result we like many others would lose or culture thus our ethnicity. So like I said I believe ethnicity is defined by culture more so than genes, that’s why I focus more on that.
@PeopleOfAr i am interested in race, but am not racist. i have black friends, arab friends, i dont judge people by their looks, but i recognize truth and reality.
haha my friend, i can tell you most certainly, there are fanatic turks out there, who scream "Ataturk" who dont even know their ancestors are Armenian. In fact, when the seljuks first arrived, they were not accustom to these traditions in these lands, they incorporated Armenian court, and social techniques.
@PeopleOfAr the first book written about the ottomans, in turkey was written in Armenian.
being a turk, is the same as saying you are an "American" however the turkish genome is much much more prominent and dominant throughout the nation, as compared to that of the native american. This isnt to say that some of the greatest turks, had speculated armenian ancestry, or definite armenian ancestry
sinan the ottomans greatest architect armenian
balayans greatest modern architect 19/20th century
@Mithradatesi Sure there is much unknown about this history and many things lend themselves to multiple interpretations, but I resent the claim Armenians to be invaders or just a mix of tribes. Armenian presence in the region dates much further and the counter evidence should not be discarded just because ancient Greek historians claim they saw Armenian in the Xerxes army who wore Phrygian uniforms lol.
@Mithradatesi But yes Aramazd might have been inspired upon Ahura Mazda, but remember there is no evidence of Armenians being Zoroastrian like the Persians, it might have been a mix of religions but it was definitely distinct. Also don’t forget according to Zoroastrian tradition Zoroaster himself came not from Persia but from a region to the north. I am not claiming he was Armenian but as I remember he was not Persian either.
Don't get me wrong. I did not use the word Persian, which is based on a western historical error . Instead I said Iranic. And by Using the name Urartian I was referring to the Non Aryan elements of the Armenian culture, history and vocabulary. Also its fare to consider the fact that the pre Islamic Iranian Dynasties
never considered Armenians as UnEran (non Iran= Non Aryan).
Even though Armenian language is assumed not to be Indo-Iranian, It dose form a cluster with it.
