just wait till he's about to attaack you, when his weapon is about to hit, then press the disarm button to successully disarm. it's all about timing. when you press the button to disarm ezio waves his hands a little. that's the short time span when the enemy's attack is supposed to land for you to successfully disarm him, not spamming the disarm button. same goes for counter kills. he will wave the weapon a bit.

What sucks is that for some stupid ass reason UBISOFT decided to get rid of the ability where if you time the attack right you get an instant kill like in AC1. When you hit the attack right when your sword contacted theirs. It allowed more of a offense style of gameplay where in AC2 I feel like I just sit, wait, and counter/disarm. I because of this prefer the combat of AC1.

the first time i disarmed a guy in AC 2 was the part when ezio's father was hanged and then the big guy appears and disarmes you. instead of running i tried to disarm him (even before learning that ability) and it worked

Btw, how the heck can I "counter kill"/ disarm brutes and spearmen?.

I've NEVER counterkilled/disarmed a spearman. Ive never counter killed a brute. Theo nly thing ive done succesfully is disarm brutes.

Tell me plz??? do i just have to get the timing right?

Also am i supposed to be able to counter kill Heavy attacks by brutes? i cant seem to counter those

@JRonMix hold the counter button (while using only your fists) and when you see the guy is attacking, press the armed hand button, it works with brutes, seekers, and pretty much everyone who's attacking you, think of it as a counter, cuz it's pretty much the exact same thing, same timing, same everything, hope it helps...

@JRonMix m8 i take down all of brutes and spearmen with disarm only... u need to get timing and u cant disarm spearmen when he tries to hit u in legs to get u on ground (well i couldnt maybe its posible)... anyway when ur hands are empty its harder to counter than with weapon but i still find it easyer to kill brutes and searmen like that.... oh and very important thing when u start taking his weapons continiue clicking attack so u finish him off

@JRonMix if you disarm the brutes and hit them the spear should break, if the spear breaks, no matter how, hit the fast attack button and you will stab them with the two jagged spear pieces 1 hit kill, but the best way is to get behind em and go for the neck w/hidden blade.

Christ whoever was playing is major fool when fighting. He just constantly used 'disarm" waiting for them to attack, you can easily disarm an opponent without being hit just use a single disarm right when they're attacking.

if you lose your weapon (by the herauts or something like that) and you unweapon or pick a weapon from a guard (which you also can buy in the shops) you will keep that weapon, well if its for sale in the shop then, if its not you will lose it at any cutscene. But this tip might help saving money for getting weapons

i did a move where i had a spear and then when a brute with an axe attacked me i countered the axe, and it broke my spear. so etzio hit him in the head with the blunt end and stapped hin with the spear point. and he was lying in the ground with half a broken spear stiking up like a pole out of his chest
