  • @Zanazuah hehehe, in some way i agree, it a post i made 2 years ago and its kinda weird to see what i wrote , although i only wrote it because he wrote it on his last note ;)

myself is an atheist actually ;)

  • thank god, one less douche in this world who can't thin the gene pool out

  • Idiot! City-boy trying to be cool!

  • im alive

  • @AIexSupertramp God bless You!!! Brave man!!!

  • @Hrabanderwisj sure mate

  • For years this remains a sad mistery and they remains strangers with no name. After about four years, was discovered that they went from Germany, like "hippie", two travellers that put home and parents left at their back and start to trip without money or comfort. Is a story that remind me Chris McCandles. They was not far to society, but don't ask nothing, not for help yet.

You must start to asking about the meaning of life, and ispiring a lot of minds and doubt... Maybe, the same they haved

  • Close to my house there's a pinewood. Some years ago in winter there was found two young body: a man and a girl, die many days before. Die maybe for the cold, maybe for starving, maybe for a venous plant that they eated. Nobody knows them, nobody have seen them before. They were'nt far in wild countries.... they was died very close to my town, alone.

  • " A whaling ship was my Harvard and my Yale. To avoid being educated into imbicility, I left to that desolate isolated place, cut off, where the mysteries of the universe can be unraveled. All this time later when people ask me why I deserted God and humanity and they wish to argue my motives, I just tell them I wanted to be in a place where I didn't know there was a quarell. "

    Herman Mellville.

  • i traveled for eight years i polished wheels at truckstops i rode freight and lived my llife acording to the weather,i slept in shelters and bridges from washington to west virginia ,texas to floridia i am looking for a partner who i traveled with his name was casey jones his parents named him after the song anywaays he lives in wheeling or around wheeling wv if any one knows him tell him to go to my face book....keep being kind and dont be afraid of the world people r still good

  • Destroy the barbie plastic in your soul and Awaken your inner Samurai with a true Sucker Punch of Love.

  • happyness is only real when shared

  • @jorisje96 amen bro

  • @thebradgordinvasion1. That quote sounds good. But it's completely untrue. The point is that wen u smile it means your content and worryfree. Even if it's only for a half a second. Nobody has to see your smiles to make them worth something. As long as you gave anything to smile about then you should be gappy

  • i truly respect chris and he and i are a lot a like i spent 5 years hitchhiking canada and have spent 3 months in the wild aka no mans land ultimate freedom i made some travel videos check em out on my page

  • The distress note below was purposely not part of the movie.

Attention possible visitors. "S.O.S. I need your help. I am injured, near death, and too weak too hike out of here. I am all alone, this is no joke. In the name of God, please remain to save me. I am out collecting berries close by and shall return this evening. Thank you, Chris McCandless. August ?"

He screwed up and no longer though of himself as the free-spirit Alex Supertramp in the end. Sad but true.

  • "Some people feel like they don't deserve love. They walk away quietly into empty spaces, trying to close the gaps of the past." Chris McCandless.

"Happiness is only real when shared." Chris MCcandless.

Two 'lessons" he lived through. Dear Chris, I agree with you. I have the feeling that the first sentence was a thought at the beginning of his journey and the second his last.

Dear Chris, your 'Candle' is still burning in my heart. Brave you were and also very fragile.

  • "Happiness is only real when shared"-Christopher McCandless

  • I wish I had the guts to do what he did

  • @CemeteryMan97051 Me too Brother.

  • A truly inspiring man.

  • thank you for this video !! greetings from Lithuania

  • i would rather die alive and not a slave of society

  • @BuildMeAfire ooow hippie why you using computers? make some smoke signs and write on trees then.

  • @josepippo im not a dang hippy you city slicker jackass if i were a hippie why would i be huntin and eatin meat you damn retard . btw i have 2 channels and buildmeafire is my second on

  • I met him once on an adventure of my own. we met up in the storm drains of vegas, traded stories, lived together for days. he told me things i'll never forget. and after we met, i was inspired to go farther than ever before. Once, i was out in the mountains in oregon, no food, no water, and in the middle of the night a bear came. i climbed the tallest tree i coud see, and the only thing that kept me going was remembering those old days. god, when i see this, i damn well cry.

  • Chris in my eyes you've truely soaked up the very bone marrow of life and all it's aspects, you tryed to survive out in the wild, and through travel, met some "magic" people, and had some "magic" expierences, you may have died on your journey, but that's okay chris, you found your freedom, that's all that really matters. I'll see you soon.

  • I don't think that happiness can be complete without other people, even if relationships are hard, disappointing, hurting...

That's why the best sentence for me in that movie is at the end, I don't remember exactly but basically "happiness has value only when shared".

And I really disagree with the "regardless of love, justice... matters is the truth"... I'm not sure truth is the most important thing.

Finally I thing that to love people and forgive them for their human mistakes, is true courage

  • @Melozyva HI THERE - LOVED YOU'RE POST - A FRIEND SAID TO ME ONCE " WHATS THE POINT IN A SMILE ? IF THERE'S NO AROUND TO SEE YOU SMILE.

  • @thebradfordinvasion1 I totally agree with that

  • I just saw the movie just after reading things about Chris'life.

My impression after that has to sides:

I totally understand Alexander, the adventurer, who dares to drop his comfort to break with this consumer society. I understand the man who wants to go back to simpler values, who's looking for happiness in being and not having, close to the nature.

The side of the approach that I dislike is the fact of speaking of a happiness beyond human relationships.

  • i left calgary with a backpack and 20 dollars, for 6 months ive been across and back 4 times, saw places i know no soul has seen, the only regret i have is re-entering "civility" as we are told it is, we all have this his story embedded in the minds and hearts of all as myself but theres nothing one can do in preparation, simply be and have faith more in the earth and yourself because the first time you reach a mountain top and spend your first week you know that the rest of us are living lies

  • I dont belive he had any mental illness just a drive to live all his adventures, I felt bad for his parents not knowing anything about where he was and I think he truley wanted to live but even in his last written goodby note he stated he had a good life and I think he was a admirable person for being who he was Im sorry he passed at such a young age.

  • For those of you that haven't seen the movie Into The Wild,I highly recommend that you do.Soundtrack by Eddie Vedder and movie directed by Sean Penn

  • Everyone makes quick, rash judgements about Chris. He left to get away from those kind of people...people that think they know everything in the damn world when they're probably just getting off of their mommas titty. Chris was a better man than most of us.

  • He tried to live in a God's creation that everyone of us is supposed to. He lived like God intended us thus he lived like God. Everybody could achieve that only if you're ready to leave the "fur", "gold" and "silver mud".

  • @pipsonja, i agree with you that his living in God's creation was, in a sense, living as God intended. However, he abandoned the people he loved, only to realize that those relationships were what was really important. A balance between the two extremes are what would have truly satisfied him, and that is what God intended. Harmony with others as well as creation.

  • @pdanderson24 You see we all rise to the same "level" at some time. Some sooner, some later, but, in the end we'll all be at the same peak of the mountain we are climbing. Acctually there exist no boundaries but you'll get the picture!

  • he found real happiness that can be find in God's creation.

  • There were so many lies about Chris if you read the book and make some research on the net, you'll find out who he really is.

  • Some experts say he was a bi-polar and close to being a schizo. According to them, one sign of being a schizo is the loss of sense of smell. Like that incident at Wayne Westerberg house, Chris cooked and he never smelled the choking odor of burning oil in the house, and that he stank when he worked at a fast food chain, he got offended when the crew gave him soap and shampoo.

  • ur a hater dude. u have a blind faith for u he is sick bec u are more sick than him bec he found real meaning of life and u hypocrite pretending normal and full of negatives in allu see is more schizo haha blind faith!

  • @sdfjkl321 But in the end he realized real meaning was with people. Was it really necessary to selfishly put his life at risk to come to the realization that it's about your relationships with people and not about collecting experiences?

I'm glad I did the Peace Corps before I tried something like this.

  • @blindfatih wow. is that really a symptom of schizophrenia? Sounds about right. I dated a guy that did something similar to this. He came back smelling like a skunk that had once been diagnosed schizo. He thought he was misdiagnosed...

  • My hat off to Eddie Vedder. Song well sung.

Christopher "Alexander Supertramp" McCandless was a dreamer. Unfortunately dreamers often possess an unrealistic naivety of the world they are part of rather than a sense for start realities.

Granted he was ill prepared for the Alaskan Bush; but his quest was of knowing one's self which blinded him to the true nature of life. Prey or victim.

Chris's / Alex's only sin was an innocence in a hostile world. God bless Alex's spirit and soul.

  • pity on u

  • Now Gordon (original writer of this song) is suing Eddie Vedder. He wants all profits. Sad..

  • A lot of big writers spent some time in the wilderness and were inspired by nature. Maybe not that extreme like Chris but the wilderness can be a big inspiration for writers.

  • he is for me

  • yeah i know what you mean,

you should check out Bon Iver. He lived in the wild on his own for months and you can definately hear it in his music.

  • Respect to Chris. He really lived, probably more than most others here.

No fake, he just did it, not just talking...

I think he deserves big respect.

    May his spirit live on.

I think he could have contributed a lot to other people and society with all this great experiences he had made out there in the wild.

Chris, you are a big inspiration.

  • god bless u Chris, onde of best movies ever. an inspiring story.

  • Clearly you're an idiot and have no balls. Just live in your own box and mind your own business.

  • clearly you're right...oh wait, no, because he went to emory, got straight As and had the grades and smarts (book and street) to go to harvard law. im sorry that his lifestyle is so different from yours that you cannot possibly comprehend it without labeling him as retarted. why dont you get off your own damn high horse and try some research before you judge him, moron, oh and anarhy09, well put :)

  • Many would disagree with you. He found happiness and contentment by leaving behind all that he knew, and his spirit is admired by many who lack the courage to leave the material world behind. Whether or not his free-spiritedness was due to a mental illness is unknown and there is no reason for us to speculate.

  • exactly

  • @rcronenberg.......You are probably correct. Many experts believe that McCandless was bi-polar and prone to bouts of depression. The fact is that he got very depressed when paddling toward Mexico and got in real trouble before getting help. But the hero worship that goes on at these sites and the myth created by Krakauer and perpetrated by Sean Penn does not allow for your candid comment without being given the thumbs down.

  • Your "experts" are very fond, not only of labelling contemporary heroes as bipolar and the like, but also of going back in time to diagnose great men of the past as mentally ill. The fact remains that none of your experts will never achieve anything great.

  • Is there anyone you call hero? because I'm sure any hero you choose has been called a madman in their time.

  • hey chris , u left a huge impression on me , everything you did i understood , it was your wish to set yourself free of this really tough world , i really admire you and wish i could sit and talk to you for a min , you inspired me in many ways ,thanks alot.

    and may god bless all...

  • @absolumer....... the point is that you can not talk to Chris because he forfeited his life to hubris and lack of respect. You should respect the world traveller who planned to live and succeeded.

  • i think i can choose that for myself thank u very much...

  • If everyone were such an idiot as the guy who replied to your comment, there would just be no poetry in the world. A lot of wonderful and immortal poems are addressed to being that supposedly cannot hear. But this is just the way that people who hate our Chris think.

  • If everyone thought like you, there would just be no poetry in the world. A lot of wonderful and immortal poems are addressed to being that supposedly cannot hear. But this is just the way that people who hate our Chris think.

  • for, beside that before he has fairly learned it I may have found out another for myself, I desire that there may be as many different persons in the world as possible; But I would have each one be very careful to find out and pursue his own way, and not his father's or his mother's or his neighbour's instead."

  • excellant advice

  • " One young man of my acquaintance, who has inherited some acres, told me that he thaught he should live as I did, if he had the means. I would not have anyone adopt my mode of living on any account ;

  • On another note for those of you who decide that you want to do this, my hats off to you. However before you do, if you do, I suggest you read Thoreau's "Walden" and in the "Economy" chapter he specifically states,

  • I dont get how anyone can say anything about him on here. Its not like any of you knew him you just saw sean penns adaptation of a book by Krakauer.

  • I honer any man or woman who has the will to do just that - Find the true happiness in your life, which is found in your own soul - very few in life achieve it because they are always looking in the wrong place ~ So how can you say that? Ignorance may be bliss is many situations, but not so much this one. Try again!

  • You spoke very true words.. Many people never find themselves and live a pointless existence.

  • I agree he was running, but because he was in search of the happiness ... Read Morethat laid with in his own soul, not the ideals and expectations of others/society. In his days leading to his death, he changed many lives - showed them meaning, and realizing in the end of his own life - that happiness can be obtained, but when shared

  • Your ignorant! How can you say that? his life was scrutinized by many, that Chistopher was running away from something because of the many demons he had dealt with as a youth and that he made selfish acts by disappearing from all he had known, knew. See, I feel differently....!

  • the reason you chucked your map was b/c you wanted to explore and discover for yourself. fuck what the government has discovered. its all about spiritual pilgrimage and rambling the earth, that is true exploration and adventure.

  • you are my idol. you did something none of us have done...yet. maybe someday i can follow in your footsteps.

  • Hey you, love the way this song/picture is made... Love the story, peaple have to live there dream, even (not good) if the price is life, god rest his soul... So inspirering, and just make me want to leave my daily life and go explore... Peace out.....

  • Chris you are a "lucky" man in some respects, you lived the dream if only for a short while.

I would exchange my existence anytime for a small piece of that.

There is always a pleasure in the pathless woods.

    Take it easy Mr Supertramp.

  • i ll do the same one day

  • as will i, except for the dying part, i plan on doing it once i graduate form college, iv already been building up supplies and have planned my route and have prepared extensivly from exercising to going on backpacking trips with as little as possible.

  • i adore you my friend!where are u planning to go ?

  • @ancalagog6 I have incredible admiration for people with strong convictions to be able to want to follow in Chris McCandles' footsteps. Doing that would feel too much like being the only person on the planet and I cannot go through that again. Even at 44 I still need people in my life. Still need to feel loved and needed.

  • @ricky17..well buddy..jst lemme know whenever you are thru wid ya prep..i think we can have sm compny in the beginn..and ten can go our separate ways..meetin new ppl was the part of the trip and we shall be doin the same..in the mean tym keep on prep..me doin the same..i hope i will find the truth...someday...nature callling..r u listenin??

  • @Ricky17Y me too..soon hope

  • Chris had a great life, didn´t work hard just enjoy his life. I loved the movie was a great lesson of life. rest in peace !

  • In your journey in trying to kill the false being within, you've seen alot that us, will never really see. If we do, we could not truly appreciate it like you did, I'm sure. I wish I could forgive like you did. Society didn't break you down Mr. McCandless. Rest in Peace.

  • Society didn't break him down but Alaska sure did. With a little bit of basic survival gear and perhaps a manual or two he could be both free and alive. He died because he was naive and unprepared. Sad, yes, but preventable and forseeable.

  • Wow, somebody who makes sense that was not thumbed down into obscurity. .............. well done.

  • "Some people feel like they don't deserve love. They walk away quietly into empty spaces, trying to close the gaps of the past." Chris McCandless

    R.I.P

  • Love the tribute. Thank you for sharing his life with the world!! ED

  • He would have saved his life if he had a map and compas, and some proper equipment, would have come out alive.

  • His ending although preventable, was merely one point. I like to focus on his life and what he taught all humanity. To TRUELY LIVE!!!

  • goodbye chris..rest in peace..a kizz from italy

  • I saw the movie, excellent movie. True story, an inspiration. I enjoyed it.
